Deze vind ik echt mooi. Supra's deden me nooit echt wat, maar zeker vergeleken met de andere Supra's die gepost zijn vind ik deze erg mooi.

Ben vorig jaar in Japan geweest en ook naar een paar beursen geweest en wat ik daar zag geloof ik nog steeds niet...
De super supra (zoals ze hem noemen) was te zien op een video waar die op voorgewarmde racebanden stond op een straat in ??????(weet de plaats niet meer) wordt flink op toeren gedraait om vervolgens de stenen uit het wegdek te trekken!!!!!!! (heb wel 10x naar de video gekeken als ik geen sporen zag van montage of zo)...
Echt niet normaal meer die auto!!!

Deze vindt ik eigenlijk nog het meest stijlvolle.

Voornamelijk omdat ik een hekel heb aan die grote opzichtige spoilers.

Wat vinden jullie van deze? Staat te koop in Spanje, slechts 65k op de teller, gloedjenieuwe banden en velgen... alleen bleek het na een gesprek met de eigenaar helaas een automaat te zijn. Had hem graag gekocht als het een handbak was

Yep, deze Supra staat al een aantal weken in de Limburgse editie van de Vondst. Daar staat er een prijs bij van 32000 euro (in het begin nog 35000 euro), dus nog ff sparen zou ik zeggen... Ziet er wel nog heel erg netjes uit.

175000km... da's echt niet de mooiste van Nederland hoor. En het is nog een automaat ook.

32k euro krijgt ie er nooit voor. Van mij niet in ieder geval.

Die zwarte die ik verder hierboven heb gezet is 3x zo mooi, heeft 3x zo weinig op de teller, heeft veel mooiere (nieuwe) velgen en kost 6000 euro minder.

Weet iemand trouwens of er in Europa uberhaupt hardtops geleverd zijn, of alleen targa's?

Shit, da's echt nieuwstaat, de klokkenwinkel is vervangen door witte exemplaren zie ik, retedure velgen en d'r zit zo te zien een aftermarket boost controller en nog iets anders op.

Supra is een coole wagen maar dan moet ie natuurlijk wel minimaal een wide body kit, dikke velgen hebben en gewoon godsgruwelijk getuned zijn. Niet van die brave standaard modelletjes.

Zo'n mk2 weegt niks... met zo'n motor erin moet het levensgevaarlijk zijn, maar je hebt wel een auto waarmee je alles en iedereen eruit trekt bij het stoplicht!

Mooie auto's, als ze maar zonder die oerlelijke veilside kits zijn, autoverneukerij ten top is dat, standaard met wat onopvallende uiterlijke tuning komen ze het meeste tot hun recht, een mooie runner up op mijn lijstje mocht ik de auto van m'n dromen mislopen.

The Toyota Supra TT is a car we've never really thought of as seductive. It's big, aggressive, scary, mean, fast, sick, twisted, and downright diabolical, but nowhere in our traditional list of descriptive Supra words would you find the word "seductive," much less the word "sexy." If you have to sum it up in one word, well, in a word the turbo Supra is just bad--that is, until Veilside penned a new aerodynamics design for this most brutal of Toyota sports cars. That new aero design is called Fortune 03, and it gives the Supra a new sensual dimension it didn't really have before. Try not to drip on the magazine as you gaze on its splendor.

The car began life as an SPI customer car--that's Sharp Precision Instruments of Cliffwood Beach, New Jersey. Its owner wanted to do something crazy, and it just happened that Veilside Japan had recently introduced the Fortune 03 at Tokyo Auto Salon and was looking for a Stateside vehicle on which to test fit the new body kit. SPI's Hubie Fuh mad the call and secured a Fortune 03 for shipment to the United States--the first such package on the North American continent.

Unlike the popular stick-on body kits and ubiquitous bumper lip treatments of today, fitting Veilside's Fortune 03 aero kit to a Toyota Supra is not as easy as sticking a "Powered by Deez Nutz" decal across the top of your windshield. The kit incorporates no less than 17 pieces or so--I probably counted wrong--many of which replace entire panel sections on the car. Basically, the only parts that stay are the roof and rear quarter panels. Fortune 03 includes new bumpers, new front fenders, a reverse-induction hood, rearview mirrors, door flares, rear fender flares, a new hatch, and a rear wing. In addition to the actual body pieces, the Fortune 03 includes new projector lighting assemblies that separate the various portions of the Supra's multi-lens headlamps, giving the front end a distinct Integra flare.

Fuh told us the bolt-on pieces basically bolt in place using factory mounting locations, but to really set the kit off certain portions need to be molded in with the factory sheet metal--not your basic overnight job. On this car the rear flares and rear bumper have been handled in exactly that fashion, grafted in with the factory rear end for a smooth, sinuous look. The headlamp assemblies have been integrated into the front bumper, but the bumper itself and side skirt portions remain modular in case they need to be removed for whatever reason. A liberal coat of metallic blue pearl multi-stage paint shrouds the porn-worthy panels in tasteful color shifting magnificence.

Beneath the aerodynamic madness, HKS Hyper Damper coilovers drop the fender wells over a quartet of custom-wrought Veilside wheels, something SPI collaborated with Veilside over to make sure the proper offset was effected and the wheels themselves were flush with the widebody flares. Cusco strut tower braces bolster the rigid Supra chassis, while Suspension Techniques anti-sway bars have replaced the factory stabilizers down low. At the front wheels the Supra now wears Stoptech big brake assemblies, which include 355mm two-piece floating slotted rotors, red powdercoated four-piston calipers and braided stainless steel lines. In the rear, SPI retained the stock brake configuration but replaced the lines with stainless braided runners and the rotors with O.E.-sized slotted Stoptech rotors.

Beneath the reverse-induction Veilside hood, SPI also opened up the head and dropped a pair of hot HKS cams and adjustable gears inside. The factory twin-turbo setup has been pulled in favor of a more popular and much more insane method of manufacturing horsepower--a single-turbo GReddy upgrade kit. You probably all know the specs by now: GReddy intake, SUS exhaust manifold, T88 spool, Type R wastegate and massive front-mount intercooler. Fuel enrichment properties are provided by a Walbro fuel pump, SX fuel pressure regulator and a detail of GReddy and A'PEXi electronics. GReddy's PRofec e-01 manages the boost curve, while A'PEX's S-AFC piggyback computer coordinates the air/fuel ratio and oversees the fuel enrichment system. Both modules have been integrated seamlessly into the glove compartment hatch.

Within the interior, SPI also integrated an array of system meters to enable the driver to monitor every aspect of the high-boost, high-stress engine. Greddy boost and oil pressure gauges have been sunk into the center dash vent locations, while a quartet of DEFI meters now resides in the passenger's dash and relay information on oil, water and exhaust gas temperature, as well as fuel pressure. Other additions to the cockpit include comfortable, reclineable Sparco Milano 2 buckets seats, Sparco four-point harnesses to keep the seats' occupants strapped down under intense load, and a Sparco Lap 3 steering wheel and aluminum sport pedals to make the driver look like a superstar--even if he or she doesn't drive like one.

Simply put, the Veilside-SPI Supra is a study in contrasts. On one hand, you've got the Supra and all the brutal, uncompromising performance latent therein. On the other, you've got the clean, sensual styling imparted by the Veilside Fortune 03 kit. Despite the bold styling statement it makes, the finished car is quite reserved in its splendor--everything in its place, nothing over the top. It's an import tuner car that is as holistically appealing as certain expensive Italian sports cars we've lusted over, with one important difference. The influence here is entirely Eastern.

Veilside's Fortune 03 gives this Supra an entirely new demeanor

The Toyota Supra TT is a car we've never really thought of as seductive. It's big, aggressive, scary, mean, fast, sick, twisted, and downright diabolical, but nowhere in our traditional list of descriptive Supra words would you find the word "seductive," much less the word "sexy." If you have to sum it up in one word, well, in a word the turbo Supra is just bad--that is, until Veilside penned a new aerodynamics design for this most brutal of Toyota sports cars. That new aero design is called Fortune 03, and it gives the Supra a new sensual dimension it didn't really have before. Try not to drip on the magazine as you gaze on its splendor.

The car began life as an SPI customer car--that's Sharp Precision Instruments of Cliffwood Beach, New Jersey. Its owner wanted to do something crazy, and it just happened that Veilside Japan had recently introduced the Fortune 03 at Tokyo Auto Salon and was looking for a Stateside vehicle on which to test fit the new body kit. SPI's Hubie Fuh mad the call and secured a Fortune 03 for shipment to the United States--the first such package on the North American continent.

Unlike the popular stick-on body kits and ubiquitous bumper lip treatments of today, fitting Veilside's Fortune 03 aero kit to a Toyota Supra is not as easy as sticking a "Powered by Deez Nutz" decal across the top of your windshield. The kit incorporates no less than 17 pieces or so--I probably counted wrong--many of which replace entire panel sections on the car. Basically, the only parts that stay are the roof and rear quarter panels. Fortune 03 includes new bumpers, new front fenders, a reverse-induction hood, rearview mirrors, door flares, rear fender flares, a new hatch, and a rear wing. In addition to the actual body pieces, the Fortune 03 includes new projector lighting assemblies that separate the various portions of the Supra's multi-lens headlamps, giving the front end a distinct Integra flare.

Fuh told us the bolt-on pieces basically bolt in place using factory mounting locations, but to really set the kit off certain portions need to be molded in with the factory sheet metal--not your basic overnight job. On this car the rear flares and rear bumper have been handled in exactly that fashion, grafted in with the factory rear end for a smooth, sinuous look. The headlamp assemblies have been integrated into the front bumper, but the bumper itself and side skirt portions remain modular in case they need to be removed for whatever reason. A liberal coat of metallic blue pearl multi-stage paint shrouds the porn-worthy panels in tasteful color shifting magnificence.

Beneath the aerodynamic madness, HKS Hyper Damper coilovers drop the fender wells over a quartet of custom-wrought Veilside wheels, something SPI collaborated with Veilside over to make sure the proper offset was effected and the wheels themselves were flush with the widebody flares. Cusco strut tower braces bolster the rigid Supra chassis, while Suspension Techniques anti-sway bars have replaced the factory stabilizers down low. At the front wheels the Supra now wears Stoptech big brake assemblies, which include 355mm two-piece floating slotted rotors, red powdercoated four-piston calipers and braided stainless steel lines. In the rear, SPI retained the stock brake configuration but replaced the lines with stainless braided runners and the rotors with O.E.-sized slotted Stoptech rotors.

Beneath the reverse-induction Veilside hood, SPI also opened up the head and dropped a pair of hot HKS cams and adjustable gears inside. 980whp through an automatic Toyota Supra!

We've heard the story too many times to count. It starts with "I never intended to fix up my car." Next thing you know, the thing is pumping out ungodly amounts of horsepower and working the dyno to world-record heights. Such is the scenario for Michael Carlin of Algonquin, Ill.

Carlin, a computer technician, wanted to celebrate his gainful employment with the purchase of new car and levitated toward a Lexus IS300; a nice place to levitate for sure. Into all things exclusive, he was looking to be the first in his city with a modified IS300.


The Toyota's turbo system consists of a stainless-steel HKS turbo manifold, a GT-spec wastegate and Type II blow-off valve, joined by a wicked SP77 turbo. The SP77 is one of the big dogs in the Sound Performance line-up, featuring a .81 A/R turbine housing and a highly efficient GT42 turbine wheel joined to a 77mm compressor wheel.



Carlin enlisted the talents of ADFX Racing to fabricate a trick intake system that didn't rely on the stock intake runners. ADFX fabricated a CNC-flange to mount the manifold to the head and custom runners that ran between the flange and the intake plenum. The runners were port-matched to the head and designed for optimum flow. This work of art was finished off with a huge 90mm throttlebody originally destined for a Mustang





Carlin puts the pedal to the metal with confidence. He credits his peace of mind to the Sound Performance SP400 automatic transmission. The SP400 is a heavily beefed TH400 with a custom bell housing that allows a direct bolt-up to the 2JZ.


After picking up the car in October 2000, he went into cyber space to see what the tuning scene was all about. The seeds were planted. In the spring of 2001, he moved from cyber space to 3-D reality and met up with some of the people he had been chatting with. One of these enthusiasts was Marcus Frost, who owned a startlingly swift JZA80 Supra.

Carlin's posting on t04r.com puts the meeting into context. "This was the first MkIV I'd ever seen, and my heart stopped, my jaws dropped, I lost a few breaths. I truly believe it was that first ride in a BPU MkIV Supra that has corrupted me so, but I have no regrets."

Carlin wanted to get in on the fun, which is when he met Larry Prebis of Sound Performance in nearby Bloomingdale, Ill. A plan of action was forged, but the price tag for a 600-hp "four-door Supra," while reasonable, was still way out of reach. Like many of us, Carlin was in no-man's-land; it cost too much put the boost to his IS and he thought a Supra was equally out of reach. The group of enthusiasts Carlin met became known as SuperCarsChicago and they peppered him with reasons to step up, score a MkIV and live the dream.

He sold the IS300 at a loss and started the search. In October 2001, Carlin's prey was in the crosshairs--a Quicksilver 1998 with an automatic and 32,000 miles. Carlin wanted to drag race and wanted an automatic so this was the car; it was even local and the color was rare.



It was during the first year with the Supra that his power addiction festered and intensified. By December 2002, the car was at full BPU-spec but the 406 whp just wasn't enough.

Less than 18 months after seeing his first JZA80, Carlin took his newfound hobby to a whole other level when he, Frost and two other enthusiasts formed Garage Dynamics, a company that imports rare and exotic performance and styling parts. With that, the Supra was soon skyrocketing past BPU+++.


Carlin was going to run a Do-Luck front bumper cover but knew no one made an FMIC kit to work specifically with the Do-Luck piece, so he and ADFX Racing collaborated on a custom, one-off FMIC. The result is a humongous 18x24x4.5 core perfectly nestled in the nose of the car.

Impressed by Prebis' knowledge of the JZA80 and his patience, Carlin sought out Sound Performance again. From this brainstorm session, historic events were set in motion. He knew a bulletproof automatic was key to drag racing success and Sound Performance was ready with its SP400 unit.

The SP400 is a GM TH400 internally fortified and outfitted with a custom bellhousing to join with the 2JZ-GTE with no cutting. Sound Performance also added one of its Level 2 torque converters to the combination. The converter was a 4000-rpm stall unit with a CNC-machined turbine hub, sealed Torrington bearings, furnace-brazed impeller and turbine, a trick anti-ballooning plate and reinforced turbine vanes. Carlin elected to swap in a six-speed LSD for added zip on the street. He addressed getting the power to the ground before approaching the task of generating said power.

Not to worry; while all the gearbox stuff was going down, the engine program was in full swing, which isn't saying as much as you'd think because the plan was originally for a fully stock bottom end. Carlin pieced together a single-turbo conversion kit made of parts he believed in and put it together at Garage Dynamics. It consisted of an HKS turbo kit with a Sound Performance turbo. A stainless-steel HKS turbo manifold, a GT-spec wastegate and Type II blow-off valve were joined by a wicked SP77 turbo.


The Supra rolls Braid Future Jarama wheels. The clean, five-spoke, three-piece creations are sized 18x10 up front and 18x11 in the rear. Braid is a Spanish wheel maker and Garage Dynamics is its U.S. distributor.

The SP77 is a standard in the Sound Performance line-up, featuring a .81 A/R turbine housing and a highly efficient GT42 turbine wheel joined to a 77mm compressor wheel. ADFX Racing fabricated a 3.5-inch downpipe and a trick intake system to complete the kit. He wanted an intake that didn't rely on the stock intake runners. ADFX fabricated a CNC-flange to mount the manifold to the head and custom runners that ran between the flange and the intake plenum. The runners were port-matched to the head and designed for optimum flow. This work of art was finished off with a huge 90mm throttlebody originally destined for a Mustang.


Custom Cars Unlimited handled the body tuning. Carlin wanted a one-off look, so he added C-West side skirts, a TRD hood and wing, C-West rear skirts and a Do-Luck front bumper. The fenders were rolled to accommodate the humongous Braid wheels.

Carlin also had to feed his need to be exclusive. His car was going to run a Do-Luck front bumper cover and Carlin knew no one made a FMIC kit to work specifically with the Do-Luck piece so he and ADFX Racing collaborated on a custom, one-off FMIC. The result is a humongous 18x24x4.5 core. Other tidbits created by ADFX include a custom battery box, one-off radiator, catch cans, exhaust housing shield, spark plug cover and a six-point roll bar with swingouts. Meanwhile, the cylinder head was getting some attention. Ferrea 1mm oversized valves were installed using Crower springs and retainers. The plan called for a set of HKS 264 cams and ARP head studs.

Every build-up has its challenges and Carlin was about to face his. With the long block together, the crank was hand turned to check everything out and an eerie "snap" echoed around the shop, followed by flowery expletives, most starting with "ohh!" The exhaust cam had snapped in three places. Carlin lined up a warranty replacement, which turned out to be a bigger 272 bumpstick. A blessing in disguise; this was actually a better fit for the project.

The fuel system on Carlin's Supra features two in-tank Walbro pumps, -8 lines, an SX regulator and 1000cc injectors planted in a custom ADFX billet rail. The spark side was enhanced with the trusty HKS Twin Power DLI. He also bought an EMS, a 5-bar MAP sensor and a wideband O2 controller.

A very exclusive Alpine IV900 DVD stereo head unit, featuring a huge, 7-inch display, is the cornerstone of a hard-hitting system. The remainder of the interior consists of a 10,000-rpm TRD tach, Sparco Milano bucket seats, Blitz SBC-id boost controller with power meter, Defi gauges and a Blitz DATT turbo timer.

When that highly anticipated moment when a fresh engine is first brought to life arrived, it was followed by silence and dejection. The demons were showing their faces once again. Flabbergasted and at his wit's end, Carlin sent the Supra packing to Larry Prebis and Sound Performance in April 2003. One of the most difficult things any shop can do is take over a project in mid-stream. Taking over on a project with demons hiding deep within is worse still. You have no idea what was done, either right or wrong. A quick forensic look at the 2JZ revealed a number six cylinder full of fuel, which could have been catastrophic had it tried to fire. Prebis tenaciously tracked the problem to miswired MAP and IAT sensors.

The car was brought to life and strapped to Sound Performance's dyno. Asked how to tune the car Carlin bowed to Prebis' best judgment but added he had dreamed of sporting 800 whp. Initial tuning netted 720-plus at 28 psi but the wastegate spring would not allow more boost. Prebis swapped springs and continued pounding the laptop.



Carlin explains the following IM reports: "She's all done." Larry says. "You can pick her up." I asked what was the final number and Larry wants me to guess. I say, "750?" "Nope, higher," he says. "775?" Higher. "799?" (Figuring it would be my luck to just barely miss 800) Higher. "At this point, I thought he was BS-ing me. I said 825. Nope. 850? "Almost," he says. "Almost! Stop %#$*ing with me, Larry," I say. "That's not funny. He says "I'm dead serious; 844 whp at 33psi with timing very conservative at 15 degrees." Carlin was floored.

After driving the Supra around for a short while it would be down for five weeks at Custom Cars Unlimited for some body tuning. Carlin wanted a one-off look so he added C-West side skirts, a TRD hood and wing and C-West rear skirts.The fenders were rolled to accommodate Carlin's exclusive Braid wheels. With the help of BASF, Custom Cars Unlimited was able to perfectly match the Quicksilver paint. It also created custom ducting to cool the brakes, made brackets to mount HID components and polished numerous underhood parts.


Inside, Custom Cars Unlimited flush-mounted some of the tuning electronics, mounted the gauges and a high-power stereo system. Fast forward to September 2003, the stock-block 2JZ power record was held by Peter Blach.

Carlin decided to take a swing at Blach's 958-whp record.

"Off to Sound Performance I went; the car keys in one hand and a broom in the other," says Carlin, who knew the prospects of a catastrophic engine failure were staring him in the face. The car was tested in second gear and the first pull netted 870 at 25 psi.

"I stood there in agony," relates Carlin, "just waiting for that fatal pop, the inevitable grinding sounds and billowing smoke."

With the AEM tuned and boost set to 36 psi, a nerve-wracked Carlin watched history spool up in front of him.

"The turbo was screaming like a wild hyena in the night, the sounds were frightening for my wallet. At the end of the run, there was a big backfire and I thought the motor was toast. Larry, with his infamous smirk said that was only the rev-limiter. The dyno spit out a 980.55 whp chart and we were shell-shocked." Prebis was a bit skeptical and he strapped another car on the dyno to verify the result. That car repeated its earlier testing, a sign that Carlin's Supra's test was accurate.

When the warm afterglow wore off, Carlin was determined to check the Supra's performance on the quarter-mile dyno. With slicks and skinnies mounted, he brought up the boost on the line and launched. The engine was outfitted with a NOS kit, a 100-shot dry setup that's run by the AEM EMS, is tuned to kick in at 80-percent throttle and turn off at 20 psi of boost, and is activated by a switch hidden in the center console.

Instead of sitting at the line for 20 seconds trying to get the turbo spooled up, the nitrous spools it almost instantly, preventing the converter from burning. The turbo is so big, the car is terrible off the line without the NOS. Carlin has a dual purge kit that purges the NOS through the TRD vents. With nitrous blazing, the Toyota stopped the clocks in 10.1 at 138 mph--quite good for the first time down the track.

Power records like this are fleeting, but getting to the summit is all you can do. Carlin and Sound Performance reached the summit at 980 whp and did it funneling power through an automatic transmission. They deserve big props for that. Will they go for 1,000 whp? We think yes; Carlin's addiction wouldn't have it any other way.

Wrohebben sommige MkIV supra's wel een luchtinlaat en heleboel andere weer niet? Is dat een fabrieks optie ofzo

Alleen de UK en Euro spec supras hebben die fabriek af, er zit een periscoop achtig iets onder dat lucht naar de turbo's haalt om die te koelen (zijn zowel olie, water als luchtgekoeld). De scoop kun je tegenwoordig nog bestellen en inbouwen, daarom zie je sommige Amerikaanse supras er ook mee. Als het een gladde hood is, dan kun je met 99% zekerheid zeggen dat het een Amerikaan of Japanner is (supra is in 3 specs geleverd: Japans, Amerikaans en Europees) en omgekeerd.

Er zijn trouwens wel 20 aftermarket hoods voor de supra, allemaal net ietsje anders.

Kweet geen verdere specs van deze maar hijs wel errug bruut

Check op die laatste dyno het verschil tussen 5000RPM en 6000 RPM. Ik wil niet weten hoe een ongelofelijke schop in je rug dat is. Ik ben al bang voor mijn eigen supra als de 2e turbo er in komt en ik heb 'maar' 400pk.

INTRODUCTION:
What can be said about Peter Blach that hasn’t been said already? Not much, but we’ll give it a try. How about the lead organizer and director of the national Supra meet that takes place every March deep in the heart of Texas? How about the owner of seven Supras, four of which have been featured on TO4R.COM (another record for Peter, by the way)? How about, and this is big folks, being the owner of the most powerful Supra on a site that features the “World’s most powerful and beautiful Supras”? How does 1132 rwhp and 986 lb-ft grab you? We thought it would. Once again, Peter has climbed to the top of the TO4R.COM power charts, a place we are beginning to think Peter thinks is his very own throne, maybe to be “loaned” out from time to time, but only until the build-up of his latest and greatest is completed. Congratulations, Peter, on yet another outstanding achievement.



GENERAL:
I sold my last ‘98 thinking it was the last Supra I’d ever own. The day the flat bed came to pick up the car, I was in complete denial! I had second thoughts and almost decided to keep it but, after checking my account balance, I knew the buyer would not be cool with that flat bed showing up to his place without a car. So, as hard as it was to part with the black ‘98 that set the world record for the most powerful stock bottom-end in the country, in the end, it left me. After owning six Supras, including this one, I thought my Supra-owning days were over for good.
Thinking the sports car bug had left me once and for all, I went the opposite direction and purchased a Cadillac Escalade and enjoyed “big pimpin” for awhile. Three days later, I was driving by a Mitsubishi dealership and noticed the new Lancer Evolution. I decided to stop by and check it out… Well, two hours later, I had the Escalade and an Evolution. The Evo handled great, had great brakes, great seats, great HIDs, but was just missing something in the power delivery department. I decided to keep the Evo for awhile to see if I could get used to the lack of power and if it would be enough to satisfy the power bug I thought I had left. For good.



Two weeks later, I was driving by a local BMW dealership and noticed a nice M3 in the lot. I had had one before so I knew I liked the car. On a spur of the moment, I decided to take it for a spin. During the test drive, the general manager of the BMW dealership fell in love with my pearl white Escalade and made me an offer on the truck I couldn’t refuse. Incidentally, the M3 was overpriced for my budget and so the general manager took me home in his new Escalade that night.
The lack of power in the Evo eventually got to me, and I started searching for another sports car. Many of my friends and associates have told me that owning a super high-performance Supra spoils you for any other so-called powerful car. You know what? They were right! I couldn’t help but continue to check for any clean ‘98 Supras that might hit the market.
One day, while on the phone with my good friend Daniel Van Hoozer of VIP Imports, he mentioned he had a nice 30k mile black/tan ‘98. The car had been purchased from an older gentleman and was being stored in Kentucky (KY). Two weeks later I was on a flight to KY to pick up the car… J This was the cleanest ‘98 I have ever had (I’ve had three). I knew the second I laid eyes on this car, it was a keeper. Upon returning to Houston, I put the Evo up for sale. It’s interesting how all this “research” led me back to where I started. As I told TO4R.COM member Ken Henderson when putting this write-up together, “This one is a keeper. With only 30,000 miles, it’s perfect!! I will never sell this car (do not mark my words!).”



As the planner of the TX – Supra Nationals meet, I knew I had to have something truly special in time for TX2K4. Knowing the competition, as always, would be very tough, with several well-known owners and tuners shooting for four-digit rwhp numbers, I decided a little bit of deception was needed so my “surprise” could have maximum effect. So, I changed up my identity and became BPU Peter in the weeks leading up to TX2K4. All of my public comments and posts on Supraforums continually made the same point….I wouldn’t have the time to organize the meet and build my car at the same time. Only my team described below and VERY few others knew what I had planned.
Having built my last four Supras with TO4R.COM member Tommy Banh, I knew I did NOT want to build another. And so, I began my search for a shop I felt would do the best job possible on my new car. That’s where Kean Wang (of Boost Logic), Chris Johnson (of Performance Motorsports) and Justin Nenni (of Tuning Concepts) came in. I’ve known Kean since 1998 and his car was the first single-turbo Supra I rode in. Kean is known as the “Supra Encyclopedia”, having developed and marketed many great products (and more) through Boost Logic (www.boostlogic.com). Chris has an unbelievable reputation in the U.S. He is known for doing the best install/fabrication/custom work on Supras (www.performance-motorsports.com) and has built a number of cars that have become famous in the Supra world. Justin has been a friend for many years as well. He was responsible for tuning my last record-breaking Supra that produced 958 rwhp SAE net on the stock bottom-end. He has a reputation in the United States as the premier AEM EMS tuner (www.tuningconcepts.com). The three of them sold me immediately on BL’s turbo kit, PM’s work, and Tuning Concepts’ tuning. And so, the project began in late December, 2003, with me, BPU Peter, still employing a bit of subterfuge in the Supra world. Boost Logic, Performance Motorsports, and Tuning Concepts are official sponsors of the car. Collectively, they deserve ALL the credit for building/spec’ing this great machine.



The first thing that had to be replaced on the car was the stock wheel/tire setup. I’ve always had either Kinesis or Fikse wheels. In my opinion, they are the highest quality wheels on the market (along with HREs). Since I’ve had the Fikse FM/5s (3 sets) and the FM/5 Profiles, I decided to try something new. After some thought, I wound up purchasing a set of Fikse ARO wheels, sizes 18x9.5 front with 265/35/18 BFG G-Force T/A KDs, and 18x11 rear with 295/35/18 BFG G-Force Drag Radials. To round out the exterior look, I installed a set of Eibach sport lowering springs on the car.



ENGINE:
The next step was to decide how much power would satisfy my urge. I’ve already been to the mid 900 mark (958 rwhp on my last car) so I figured 1000 rwhp sounded good. After talking to Kean and Chris, we decided that 1100 rwhp sounded even better! The first part of the project was to decide on what we wanted to do with the bottom-end. After having so much success with the stock bottom-end, I wasn’t sure I wanted to take this particular approach, but trying to make 1100 rwhp with the stock bottom-end was not something I wanted to try. In addition, I want to run this car without the fear of blowing the motor and, even though the 2JZ-GTE has a vaunted reputation as one of the world’s strongest motors, if not the strongest, I knew my goal of 1100 rwhp would test the limits of any motor. The bottom-end was built with Carrillo H-Beam rods and CP pistons. The pistons required the bottom-end to be bored out 0.020, with the piston tops coated with Polydyn ceramic and the piston sides coated with Teflon. The head was ported/polished by Tony Urrutia of SHP Racing Heads. Tony also performed the head work on my 958 rwhp car. The head flows 295 cfm at 400 lift and is a nice match for the HKS 272 cams that reside in the motor. BL and PM also added Crower titanium springs/retainers and Ferrea 1mm oversize valves. To keep the head on the bottom-end under extreme heat, ARP head studs were utilized. The next step was to decide on a turbo setup that would get me over 1000 rwhp. I called on Kean and Chris to help me spec the turbo. In the end, we came up with a custom BL turbo kit as described below:

· 76mm GT42 Dual Ball-Bearing Turbo
· BL Header
· BL 4-Inch Mid-pipe
· BL 4-Inch Down-pipe
· HKS 50mm Wastegate
· 5-inch Intake Pipe
· 5-Inch K&N Intake

The intake manifold was the next piece of hardware to consider. I decided to go with a true Bullish intake manifold. The Bullish manifold is known for its cylinder-to-cylinder consistency. In addition, the manifold has velocity-type stacks on the inside to direct air into the motor. I know there are some who believe velocity stacks create an obstacle to air flow, but I’m not one of them. Given the history of Bullish and VeilSide in Japan, both users of the velocity stack approach, its pretty clear to me it is a design approach that works and works exceedingly well. The manifold is fitted with a custom 90mm Accufab throttle body as well and a custom throttle cable.
To help cool the incoming air from the turbo, a GReddy 4-row intercooler was used. To help expel the air, an HKS Racing BOV was used. Putting power to the ground is a Wide-Open Throttle Motorsports (WOTM) clutch with a stock Toyota flywheel. Finally, a Blitz Spec R boost controller is responsible for controlling the boost.



FUEL:
In order to get enough fuel into the motor to keep a safe a/f ratio, I knew I needed BIG injectors, a BIG rail, and a lot of fuel pump capacity. Initially, BL was going to use its “Big HP” fuel system that consists of an external Weldon pump but, after reading about the noise of the pump, I decided I wanted to use in-tank pumps. Unfortunately, I didn’t feel safe at the limit using two pumps, so BL/PM fabricated a custom 3-pump Walbro setup outlined below:
· BL Fuel Rail
· Delphi 1050 cc Fuel Injectors
· Weldon Fuel Pressure Regulator
· 3 Walbro In-Tank Fuel Pumps
· NX Wet Kit

To control these huge injectors, I employed the AEM EMS. The car has a GM intake temp sensor and a Kavilco 5- bar map sensor. Since my experience with the AEM has been limited to one car, I called upon the tuning expertise (once again!) of Justin Nenni (Tuning Concepts). Justin was responsible for tuning my last car, which at one time held the world record for a stock bottom-end car.



INTERIOR:
The interior of the car was left very “stock-like”. Residing on the A-pillar is a GReddy peak/hold boost gauge and a GReddy peak/hold EGT gauge. In the dash is a GReddy peak/hold fuel pressure gauge and the Blitz Spec R boost controller. Finally, residing on the steering column is an FJO to monitor the all-important a/f ratio.
As I noted above, Chris Johnson is renowned for his creativity and custom fabrication skills. Among other things, Chris installed the battery in the rear hatch area utilizing 1-inch steel bar stock studded through the unibody, modified the rear upper tank cover to maintain a stock-like seal for -8 fittings, flush mounted the fuel pressure gauge and Blitz boost controller, mounted the NX solenoids in the forward fender well, installed all wires for power, nitrous, boost control and others through the fender wells and fabricated a 5-inch intake pipe. In addition, Chris installed the NX bottle mounted at carpet level with fabricated 1-inch steel bar stock frame work, installed stainless steel bar stock for additional bracing on the BL header, fabricated a custom down-pipe and mid-pipe joined with a 6-bolt turbo flange, fabricated a custom PM/BL 4-inch stainless steel exhaust system with a five-inch muffler, reworked the engine harness with all unused connectors removed, modified the oil return orifice, modified the front main seal, welded all unused coolant nipples, relocated the fuse box, fabricated custom throttle linkage and custom mounted a triple Walbro fuel system with special flow fittings. As I said, Chris is “The Man”.



PERFORMANCE:
After breaking in the new motor and clutch, the car hit the dyno on March 13, 2004 for the first time. The initial numbers we achieved were 1092 rwhp and 940 rwtq. Knowing that TX2K4 was just around the corner, we made a few minor changes and, at TX2K4, in front of hundreds of people, the car belted out an amazing 1132 rwhp and 986 rwtq. The car spun the slicks on the dyno which caused the HP to dip prematurely. The car didn’t recover in time (we were out of RPM by the time it started rising again) and we think that, had the tires held, the car would have been well over 1150 rwhp. All rwhp are SAE corrected and tuned to a conservative 11.3:1 a/f.

Een kennis van me heeft een mooie poetsmachine, en heeft de nodige ervaring met dat ding op lambo's, bentley's en porsches.
Hoog tijd dus dat dat ding eens een echte auto ging polishen, en een afspraak was snel gemaakt.

De auto was erg dof en zat vol krassen omdat hij toch al 15 jaar oud was,
en omdat hij een half jaar werkloos op een parkeerplaats had gestaan.

Afgelopen zaterdag dan eindelijk de nodige "supra oma pk's" aan de supra toegevoegd.
Hij glijdt nu makkelijker door de luchtstroom en DUS ga ik harder.
Het resultaat mag er zijn vind ik:

Wow dat is echt een verbetering! Ziet er like new uit. Heb je nog verdere plannen voor de winter? Kan me zo voorstellen dat je de roestplekjes weg wilt hebben

Ik wil idd met de roestplekjes bezig, maar dat heeft niet mijn prioriteit.

De prioriteit ligt op het moment bij het vervangen van bougies, evt bougiekabels en alle olieėn (vloeistoffen). Roest en die lelijke deuk in de motorkap komen later.

Als ik de auto technisch goed heb, moet er snel een Olufi op en een andere downpipe + uitlaat

Bougies is toch niet zo moeilijk, maar je wilt vast dure/bijzondere?

Weet ik nog niet. Het liefst wil ik alle onderdelendie ik vervang direct upgraden. Of het wat uithaalt weet ik niet, maar ik heb nog nooit wat vervangen dus ik doe het rustig an.

Is een deukje van stormschade. Repareren kost bij de beun al 75 euro, dus dat laat ik eerst maar lekker zitten.

Toyota supra en de mazda rx 7 dat zijn duidelijk de mooist tunable auto's die er zijn!! En het zijn blokken die ook heel erg veel kunnen hebben.

Omdat in Duitsland TTE zit. (Toyota Tuning Europe meen ik)
Die zijn verantwoordelijk voor de 'sportafdeling' van Toyota in Europa, en dus onderdeel van TRD. (Toyota Racing Developement). Ze waren o.a. verantwoordelijk voor de WRC uitvoeringen van de celica en corolla, en op het moment wordt daar de ontwikkeling gedaan voor hun huidige F1 bolide als ik me niet vergis.

Vandaar denk ik.

Zelfs als het een andere sportwagen wordt, dan neem ik aan dat ze de goede lijn door willen zetten, en ook deze goedkoper zullen maken dan de 911 en er weer een goed tunebare motor in gooien. Nu maar hopen dat het geen flop wordt ala honda nsx.

Leuke setup, en performance, maar zijn uiterlijk verneukt ie met zijn velgen IMO

Die carbon motorkap past ook voor geen meter. Maar dat is vaak met die dingen, en je moet een hele goede bodyshop hebben die het dan alsnog passend maakt.

En dit is waarschijnlijk de mooiste die ik ooit gezien heb. Anthraciet met gouden velgen, nog mooier dan zwart met gouden velgen. Als je de verf bekijkt, dan zie je overal kleine gouden flakes. Alle badges zijn ook goudkleurig. Damn wat een auto (nog maar 27k miles gelopen ook). Hier zou ik gerust de nieuwprijs voor neerleggen.

het Toyota logo? Ja dat mist. vind ik ook.

Nummerborden zijn echt een bederf voor de auto. Hulde voor de man die ze niet plaatst

Ze zijn goed bezig inderdaad! Dat er bij de waterpomp en distributieriemspanner iets mis was dacht ik ook al, maar Arnout van supras.nl heeft er nooit iets over gezegd. Best rot want ik heb toch elke keer toen ik er was aangedrongen om eerst de aan slijtage onderhevige onderdelen na te lopen. Nee, dat was niet nodig, alles was in orde... Weer een ervaring rijker dus, mijn volgende suup gaat zeker ook langs DBM engineering.

De eigenaar wil heel wat, maar maakt soms nog dommere opmerkingen dan ik. Komt me een beetje voor als grote bek, klein hartje maar goed dat is mijn mening.

Ja, maar hij laat hem ook door een ander tunen. Zelf heeft ie er inderdaad nul verstand van.

is goed rijdbaar, hoewel het standaard traction control het niet meer houdt.
met een racelogic traction control system is de auto ook netjes de bochten door te krijgen.
