En het nieuwe album, waarvan de titel nog niet bekend is gemaakt, verschijnt op 24 januari.

De Pet Shop Boys hebben een playlist op Spotify gezet met alle muziek die ze in 2019 hebben uitgebracht. Dat zijn, kortom, de 4 tracks van de EP "Agenda", de 4 nieuwe nummers uit MUSIK (gezongen door Frances Barber) en de nieuwe single Dreamland, samen met Years & Years.

Uit deze tweet blijkt dat we nog voor het einde van dit jaar méér nieuwe muziek mogen verwachten. Wellicht een volwaardige single-release van Dreamland, met bonustracks en remixes? Of gewoon alvast een tweede nummer van het nieuwe album?

De toneelbewerking van de film "My Beautiful Laundrette" is in première gegaan. Het bevat twee nieuwe nummers en een aantal instrumentale tracks die Chris en Neil hebben geschreven:

Het nummer "No Boundaries is een bonus-track op de cd-single van Dreamland. Vandaag zijn de formats bekendgemaakt:

Pet Shop Boys’ current single, “Dreamland” featuring Years & Years, will be released on October 25th on CD, digital and 12-inch vinyl formats, featuring new remixes and B-sides. The two new songs featured are “An open mind”, produced by Stuart Price and recorded during sessions for the forthcoming PSB album, and “No boundaries”, taken from the stage version of Hanif Kureishi’s “My Beautiful Laundrette” which opened in Leicester last week. The remixes come courtesy of PSB themselves, TWD (Stuart Price) and Jacques Renault.

Dreamland heeft me niet echt gegrepen tot nu toe, dus hopelijk is dat geen indicatie voor de rest van de plaat. Maar ik ga niks luisteren tot ie uit is. De hoes vind ik wel erg gaaf

Is vanochtend bekend gemaakt. Voor de prijs van 66,10 euro. Belachelijk hoog in mijn ogen.

De nieuwe single schijnt nogal anders te klinken. Ik kan niet luisteren nu ( ). De totale sound van het album trouwens ook. Donkerder dan Dreamland.

Op 2 mei staan ze in Oberhausen. Ik weet daar de prijs niet van, maar het is op een zaterdag, terwijl 6 mei op een woensdag valt.

Ik rijd net zo lief naar Oberhausen dan naar de Republiek Amsterdam. Als ik die stad kan mijden, dan doe ik dat graag...

Ze blijven lekker bezig. Beetje jammer dat er van Dreamland een 12" en cd-single was, van Burning The Heather alleen een 7" en nu weer een 12" en cd-single. Het artwork is ook niet erg consistent tot nu toe.

Ik heb het nummer nog niet kunnen horen.
Burning The Heather was een misser; geen geschikte single en ook niet handig om het alleen op vinyl uit te brengen. PSB-fans willen liever een cd-single.

Het artwork is trouwens wel vrij consistent. De hoezen van de singles en het album hebben allemaal hetzelfde lettertype en - op Dreamland na - staan bandnaam en titel ook op dezelfde plek.

Ja, de typografie is consistent. Maar het album en de Monkey Business single hebben een blurry foto, terwijl Heather een vaag landschap had en Dreamland dat metrobord. Maar het is niet zo consistent als bijv. de singles van Yes of Super waren.

Het doet me echt nog helemaal niks. Net als Dreamland & Burning The Heather eigenlijk. Maar we wachten geduldig op de hele plaat.

De productie stelt me opnieuw teleur. Het liedje is op zich wel grappig, maar de totale sound heeft totaal geen wow-effect. Slappe hap. Als een Mark Ronson dit had geproduceerd, had het tien keer beter geklonken.

Morgen komt het album uit. Ik heb inmiddels kunnen luisteren: alle rustige nummers zijn beter dan Burning The Heather, dat in z'n verlengde albumversie beter tot z'n recht komt. De uptempo-tracks zijn stuk voor stuk beter dan Monkey Business en Dreamland.... - dramatische singlekeuzes tot dusver dus. What else is new...

Overal: veel 80s-invloeden. Bij vlagen klinkt het zelfs meer 80s dan hun debuutalbum Please. Het gebruik van oude, analoge synthesizers drukt duidelijk een stempel op de plaat. De slottrack is erg "out of place", zacht uitgedrukt. Een soort 90s/vroege 00's danceplaat om het bekende huwelijks-thema.

Beste nummers wat mij betreft: Will-o-the-wisp, Happy people, I don't wanna

Op nummer 30 in NL. Hoeveel exemplaren zouden dat zijn? Schrijnend, ik vind het denk ik wel de beste plaat sinds Yes.
