Growing Protests against Syria War and Erdogan Government in Turkey. On 19 May Turks traditionally celebrate Turkey´s independence and the father of modern Turkey, Kemal Ataturk. Today and yesterday Turks protested against the AKP´s and the Erdogan government´s illegal war on Syria and demanded that the government should resign. During protests in Reyhanh, where terror bombs killed dozens on 11 May, Poice attacked protesters with batons, water cannons and tear gas. The protests were organized by several mass organizations, trade unions and political parties, including the Turkish Youth Union (TGB), the Association of Kemalist Thought (ADD), the Workers Party – Turkey and other organizations and parties.
Today´s demonstration marched toward the Mausoleum of Atatürk. The atmosphere is tense and there are reports about clashes between protesters and police forces.
Also yesterday, on 18 May there were mass protests in Turkey. The protest yesterday took place in Hatay and was organized by the Turkish – Syrian Brotherhood Platform, which consists of the Workers Party – Turkey, the Turkish Youth Organization and other progressive and patriotic organizations and individuals.
The protest yesterday was a response to the bombings in Reyhanh on 11 May, in which dozens of people were killed. About ten thousand people took part in the protest. Protesters demanded among other, that the Erdogan government should resign, and shouted slogans that emphasized the fraternal ties between the people of Turkey and Syria.
Protest - HatayThe Deputy Chairman of the Workers Party – Turkey, Bayram Yurtçiçek, the Hatay Provincial Chair Bülent Çeküçoğlu and the Republican People’s Party (CHP) MP’s Refik Eryılmaz and Hasan Akgöl made speeches during the protests.
The Erdogan government is increasingly coming under fire for its state-sponsorship of radical islamist terrorist organizations, for waging a de-facto although undeclared war against Syria, for endangering the national security of Turkey, and for being ultimately responsible for the bomb blast in Rayhanh. The protesters were calling for that the responsible should be held accountable for the bombing.
Portest - ReyhanlıThe Workers Party´s Deputy Chairman Bayram Yurtçiçek stressed in his speech, that the “terror camps” in Hatay should be closed and that the terrorists should be deported.
The refugee camps in Hatay have since more than one year been documented to serve as hubs for the recruitment, training, financing, arming terrorist organizations and for other logistic operations related to Turkey´s war by proxy.
On 18 May, protests took also place in Rayhanh, where the bomb blast on 11 May killed dozens. In Reyhanh, police forces clashed with protesters in an attempt to prevent the demonstration, using barricades, water cannons, batons and tear gas.
