Toro Rosso maakt later bekend wie Bourdais gaat vervangen.

quote:Webber apologised to Hamilton and McLaren
Jul.16 (GMM) Mark Webber apologised for bumping into Lewis Hamilton's McLaren in the battle for the first corner last weekend at the Nurburgring.
The Australian went on to record his maiden victory, but he actually lost the lead in the opening moments of the race to a KERS-assisted Hamilton as well as Rubens Barrichello, who he also bumped into.
Webber, 32, was penalised for the Barrichello contact but not the separate incident involving Hamilton, who had to drive slowly around the track en route to the pits with a shredded rear tyre.
The Red Bull driver admitted afterwards that he "clipped the back" of his silver-clad rival.
"After the race Mark sent us an email to apologise and to say that it was not intentional," Mercedes' Norbert Haug revealed to Germany's Auto Motor und Sport.
The German believes Hamilton would have been a podium contender if not for the Webber collision.
"I would like to say very clearly that we would not have beaten Red Bull," Haug insisted, "but I think a third place would have been possible."
quote:Bourdais overweegt juridische stappen tegen STR

Ari Vatanen has criticised outgoing FIA president Max Mosley for recommending Jean Todt to succeed him.
In a letter to FIA member clubs earlier this week, Briton Mosley lauded the former Ferrari boss as "the outstanding motor sport manager of his generation" and the "ideal person" to be elected in October.
On the other side of the presidential battle is 1981 world rally champion and former European parliamentarian Vatanen.
"It is wrong that Max wants to impose the new leader," the Finn, 57, is quoted as saying by Spain's Diario AS newspaper.
"The FIA is not a kingdom but rather a republic whose leaders are elected democratically," Vatanan added.
quote:Haug hits back at Lauda
Fri 17 Jul, 01:00 PM
Norbert Haug has returned fire at Niki Lauda, after the outspoken triple world champion criticised Lewis Hamilton for wanting to abandon the German Grand Prix.
When running last at the Nurburgring, the reigning world champion asked with the McLaren pitwall to ‘save this engine and gearbox’ but was told to ‘concentrate on the driving and leave the strategy to us’.
Asked about Hamilton's request, Lauda said: "I wouldn't have dared. A driver should drive because that's what he is paid to do."
Haug, Mercedes' competition boss, hit back at Lauda, referring to the 1976 Japanese Grand Prix when Lauda could have won the title but refused to drive in the torrential Fuji rain.
"Someone who says he 'wouldn't have dared' should remember when he drove into the pits and gave up a race," the German said.
Haug said it is absolutely wrong to dismiss Hamilton as unmotivated because he is not in with a shout of the title.
"I get the feeling that people are simply looking for anything to criticise," he added, explaining that Hamilton's Nurburgring radio call showed the ‘intelligence’ to consider pit strategies on the run.
quote:IndyCar » Tracy: I'll be p*ssed if Bourdais gets deal
US open-wheel veteran Paul Tracy has reacted to the news of Sebastien Bourdais losing his Formula One seat at Scuderia Toro Rosso by admitting that he has mixed emotions about the Frenchman possibly returning to America.
Bourdais' release by the Faenza concern naturally sparked - or, indeed, fanned - rumours that he could be bound for the IndyCar Series, despite claims from the four-time Champ Car title-winner that he had not given up chasing the 'F1 project for which I have renounced my career in the United States'.
Bourdais made his name with Newman/Haas Racing when, having failed to attract the attention of F1 team owners following his F3000 championship success, he jumped at the chance to race in Champ Car in a bid to further raise awareness of his ability. Even with a hat-trick of titles under his belt, however, the Frenchman remained unwanted and, having announced that he had given up on the F1 dream, a new management deal with Nicolas Todt saw a fourth crown rewarded with a seat at Toro Rosso.
Since then, however, he has failed to reproduce his CCWS form in F1, with 27 starts producing just six points, albeit with a team that, despite 2008 team-mate Sebastian Vettel's Italian GP win and comparable machinery to Red Bull Racing, continues to be known as a backmarker. After weeks, even months, of speculation - he was a late, late confirmation for 2009 - the Frenchman was formally ousted from the Toro Rosso line-up after the weekend's German Grand Prix, with Spanish teenager Jaime Alguersuari the likely replacement.
Tracy has since admitted that, while he would look forward to winding Bourdais up, both on and off track - he seems to have correctly predicted the Frenchman's period in F1 [see story HERE] - he would be disappointed to see his former rival waltz back into a leading seat, especially as he has had to sweat over a handful of outings in 2009.
"I'm not surprised he's got the boot," the outspoken Canadian wrote in his regular racer.com blog, "The guy was a misery even when he had the best car and was winning everything, so I guess he's been pretty unbearable this last 18 months. He's a great driver, but I bet his attitude didn't exactly encourage the team to solve his problems.
"I'm in two minds about this. I'm dreaming of the day that I'm able to give Bourdais the gears again but, like I've said in previous blogs, I will be mightily pissed if he walks back into a deal when I've been working my tail off doing promotions, and helping to sell tickets for race organisers, and don't get a ride."
Whether or not Bourdais gets a place in the field for next season remains to be seen, and could rest largely on whether he even wants to return to US, but Tracy is adamant that he wants greater involvement next season, even if it means foregoing further outings in 2009.
"Racing is starting to dominate my thoughts again, like it did at the start of my career, and what I'm thinking about is the future, not the past," he wrote, "My first priority is trying to do a whole season next year. My second is for it to be with KV Racing... but it all depends on financing and whether we can generate sponsorship. Given a full-season programme, I'm confident that KV Racing can regularly challenge for wins in 2010. They have the equipment, the personnel and the team spirit to do it.
"If [co-owner] Jimmy [Vasser] had to say 'no', there are other potential openings, other shifts in the driver market. For example, there's a big question mark over possible vacancies at Andretti Green Racing. People have asked whether I would get on with Michael Andretti, and I realise we had our problems back in the '90s, but we got on fine when we were team-mates at Team Green/Andretti-Green in 2001-'02 - and I did everything asked of me at Toronto, and that was an Andretti Green Promotions race. That's all you can do, act in a professional way.
"I'm older now, I'm a different person than I was ten or 15 years ago. I like Tony Kanaan and, [while] I don't really know Marco [Andretti], I'd be happy to help with set-ups and stuff like that. From green light to chequered flag on raceday, I'm a selfish SOB but, through the rest of the weekend, I can be a team player, share data and feedback, and so on.
"The stupid thing is [that] the Indy Racing League are gonna need me to help sell tickets for the Canadian races next year, but to not drive on a road course for a year (like I did from Edmonton 2008 to Watkins Glen '09) won't help my cause – or the spectator numbers, because the Canadian fans will see it as a PR stunt.
"It's one thing doing Indy for a whole month; you can do a decent job there because you've got a lot of time to dedicate to getting the car how you want it, and getting yourself race-sharp, [but] it's only gonna get harder and harder to parachute me in for two races and expect me to do well. I'm 40 - I can't just take a year off and expect to then turn up and chase down Penske and Ganassi cars. After Edmonton, I've got nothing for now, and that depresses me."

quote:Trulli closing on new Toyota deal
Jarno Trulli is mulling over an offer to remain at Toyota for 2010, AUTOSPORT has learned, after declaring his firm intention to remain in Formula 1 next year.
The Italian has started 208 grands prix and there had been speculation that he could hang up his helmet at the end of the year so he could focus on family life and his successful wine business.
However, Trulli has told AUTOSPORT that he is fired up to extend his F1 career on the back of some encouraging performances this year for Toyota.
And, with sources claiming that Kimi Raikkonen has rejected an approach to join Toyota next year, the Japanese manufacturer has now made a firm offer to Trulli for him to remain on board.
"At the moment I am driving, and really enjoying it," Trulli told AUTOSPORT about his thoughts for the future. "As long as you drive quick there is no reason to be concerned.
"Obviously you don't know what is going to happen, as it is hard to see where F1 is heading to at the moment, but that will all be clear soon.
"I am happy about my performance and confidence. And for sure in my mind I don't have the feeling I want to stop because I feel I have a lot to do. I feel very strong and very competitive, so I just hope I can stay in F1 and I am confident, but it is difficult to talk at the moment because the teams are busy doing other things at the moment."
Rather than feeling weary after more than a decade in grand prix racing, Trulli believes his years of experience in F1 are actually proving a benefit.
"I am pretty happy with the season. I am doing very well, I am driving very well, and I am very consistent and very strong during qualifying and the race. At the moment it is good and I am happy with the car.
"We are competitive, so every weekend there is a chance of showing a good result, and I have the experience to get it right nearly every time. When you fight and you know you have a small chance of getting on the podium or top five, then with experience you can have confidence to fight a lot, which is helping me a lot."
And he concedes that having not achieved Toyota's maiden victory yet is leaving him with a feeling of unfinished business.
"This is still one of my targets which I am strongly chasing this year, and still believing in it," he said. "Even though there is a gap and we can all see it, giving the car I have I still hope I can make it - whether it is now, next weekend, or a special weekend. It is there and you have to be ready to catch it."

quote:F1 at risk of EC investigation
Pitpass hears that the gaze of the European Commission may soon fall on F1 and, in particular, the selection process of the three new teams which are due to join the sport next year.
One of the rejected teams told Pitpass' business editor Chris Sylt that it is actively considering all options for redress including making a formal complaint to the EC.
One of the bones of contention is that the teams claim they were told by the FIA that for their entry to stand any chance of success they would have to use a Cosworth engine. This seems to be a case of commercial bias and when the charge was put to the FIA it didn't deny it but instead said that it "has always considered the availability of an independent supply of engines to the new Formula One entrants and the other independent teams to be a priority."
Whether the EC would rule that this is sufficient reason to justify demanding new entrants to use Cosworth engines remains to be seen, particularly given that in 2001 it said "the Commission has been assured that the FIA rules will never be enforced so as to prevent or impede a competition or the participation of a competitor, save for reasons inherently linked to FIA's regulatory role of maintaining safety standards." (link)
Clearly, the demand to use Cosworth could hardly be inherently linked to maintaining safety standards since the FIA has also allowed other manufacturers to supply engines to F1 teams in 2010. However, there is little doubt that by demanding teams use Cosworth engines it would prevent teams not using Cosworths from competing in F1. It would also prevent other independent engine suppliers (those which are not already involved in F1) from getting into the sport.
If the complaint does indeed go ahead it will be most interesting to see how far the EC will go to investigate the allegations and redress any unfairness which it may find. Seasoned observers of F1 will remember the last time that the EC investigated F1 in the late 1990s. It led to sweeping changes such as F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone stepping down from several positions he held on the FIA and also the sale of F1's commercial rights for 100 years.
It is worth remembering that there have even been claims that the FIA specifically aided the bid of Manor Motorsport so would the EC look into this and would it even go so far as to carry out the team selection process itself if necessary?
All the EC will say at present is that "should such a complaint be filed, we would review it with a view to ensuring that the competition rules are respected."

Since 1998, F1 cars have had to fit wheel tethers connecting the wheels to the chassis. This rule was introduced to try to stop wheels coming free and bouncing around dangerously during an accident. Unfortunately, wheels still do come off the cars during crashes, tragically killing a marshall at the Italian GP in 2000. The FIA have introduced an extra tether to each wheel for the 2001 season to try to stop the wheels coming off and causing injury to other drivers, marshals or spectators. The tether must attach to the chassis at one end, with the other end connecting to the wheel hub.
The wheel tethers are made by one of three companies in the UK, Future Fibres in London being one of them, and take the form of a rope. The tethers used in F1 are a derivative of high performance marine ropes, made especially for each car. They are made from a special polymer called polybenzoaoxide (PBO) which is often called Zylon. This Zylon material has a very high strength and stiffness characteristic (around 280GPa) much like carbon, but the advantage of Zylon is that it can be used as a pure fibre unlike carbon which has to be in composite form to gain its strength. The drawback of Zylon is that is must be protected from light, so it is covered in a shrink wrapped protective cover. The tethers are designed to withstand about 5000 kg of load, but often they can break quite easily during an accident, especially if the cable gets twisted by the broken suspension members. The teams normally replace the tethers every two or three races to ensure that they can withstand the loads put on them during an accident.

While his position at Ferrari is no longer in force, he is still under contract until the end of the season and therefore to ensure Ferrari secrets remain Ferrari secrets, he will be unable to go to work for another other team until next year, meaning he will be unable to have any input in their 2010 contenders.

Drugs overdose suspected in death of Alexander Mosley, whose father is formula one boss
guardian.co.uk, Wednesday 6 May 2009 15.09 BST
The eldest son of formula one boss Max Mosley has been found dead in his west London home.
Alexander Mosley, a 39-year-old economist, is reported to have died after a suspected drugs overdose. His death is not being treated as suspicious.
Police were called to Mosley's Notting Hill flat an hour after he was seen returning home with another man.
Neighbour Steve Abrams, 70, a retired psychologist, told the London Paper: "I saw two men go into the flat and about an hour later there were rows of police outside and an ambulance."
Paramedics could not revive Mosley and he was declared dead at the scene.
A spokeswoman for Scotland Yard said: "We were called at 4.20pm on Tuesday to reports of a man found dead at a property in W11. We believe we know the identity of the deceased. Next of kin are being informed and a postmortem will take place in due course."
The former formula one team boss Eddie Jordan said he was "devastated" by the news.
"Max and Alexander particularly were very close," he told Sky News. He said the father and son shared "a great intellect" and he described Alexander as a "hugely clever and talented computer expert".
"It's totally tragic, he was such a bright boy. I'm devastated for them."
In a statement, the motor racing's governing body, the FIA, said: "The FIA extends sincere condolences to the Mosley family on the sad news of the death of Alexander Mosley.
"Our thoughts are with Alexander's family and friends, and we would request that the media respect the Mosley family's privacy at this difficult time."
Max Mosley, 69, is president of the FIA and the son of the 1930s British fascist leader Sir Oswald Mosley.
Last year he won a high-profile privacy action against the News of the World over a story the paper ran about his encounter with five prostitutes.
He married Joan Taylor in 1960. The couple had two sons, Alexander and Patrick, who was born in 1972.

De 35-jarige Jacques Villeneuve keert terug in de Formule 1. De Canadese oud-wereldkampioen tekent binnenkort bij USF1 Racing. Dat meldt het Duitse tijdschrift Sport Bild.
Rijdersduo

quote:To: Mr Ari Vatanen
21st July 2009
Dear Ari
I am writing in my capacity as Chairman of the FIA Foundation to express my concern at your reported remarks about Michelle Yeoh and the allegation that in some way we are funding Jean Todt’s candidacy to be President of the FIA. A number of websites have included as quotes from you the following:
“At the expense of the FIA Foundation, Jean goes with a private plane with his girlfriend, supposedly as a FIA representative, to various parts of the world, sometimes he has gone to Asia, sometimes to Canada, sometimes to Buenos Aires, whatever. In fact, he is doing a campaign totally supported and paid by the FIA”.
These assertions are totally false. For the last two years Jean Todt’s partner, the internationally acclaimed actress Michelle Yeoh, has served in a voluntary capacity as the global Ambassador for the Make Roads Safe campaign which is co-ordinated by the FIA Foundation. In this role Michelle has travelled all over the world to support the campaign especially in advance of this year’s first ever global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety to be held in Moscow on November 19-20. A centrepiece of her involvement has been the production of a documentary film, Turning Point, which was broadcast worldwide in May on BBC World TV and also featured at the launch of the Commission for Global Road Safety’s new report calling for a UN Decade of Action.
This month Michelle participated in the Make Roads Safe Africa conference held in Dar es Salaam, speaking alongside four African Ministers of Transport and also meeting with the President of Tanzania. This important event has been the main preparatory meeting for African governments for the Moscow Ministerial and was attended by over 300 delegates across the continent. These included FIA mobility and sport clubs from Africa which took the opportunity of being in Dar es Salaam to hold additional meetings with support from the FIA Foundation. I have attached follow up emails from David Njoroge and Surinder Thatthi which give you their unsolicited and highly positive opinion of the outcome of these meetings.
Jean Todt sometimes accompanies Michelle Yeoh on her trips for the FIA Foundation. He does so when he has another task to fulfil. In Dar es Salaam, for example, a workshop was organised for ASNs on motor sport safety issues which was financed by the Motor Sport Safety Fund. Jean is a member of the Management Committee of this Fund and attended in that capacity. As you know Jean Todt was elected President of eSafety Aware earlier this year and in that role is helping to promote intelligent vehicle safety systems such as Electronic Stability Control.
All these engagements are very helpful to the work of the Foundation and demonstrate the strong commitment of both Michelle and Jean to our work promoting road safety. These activities have nothing whatsoever to do with the FIA, or the recently announced election. It is very disappointing that you have chosen to misrepresent the work of a fellow Trustee in this way and belittle the magnificent contribution being made by Michelle Yeoh. I am also surprised that you do not seem to be aware of the truth of their involvement as their activities have been extensively reported to you at successive meetings of the Board of Trustees of the FIA Foundation of which you are a member.
I appreciate that during the forthcoming election for the FIA Presidency there needs to be open and robust debate. However, I would ask that you do not again misrepresent the role of the FIA Foundation in this way.
Yours sincerely
Carlos Macaya
Chairman, FIA Foundation
