In her latest column for ‘Hiya !’ magazine, style guru Sally Spangle, is lamenting the growing craze for facial growth amongst certain Formula One drivers, worried that pipes and flat caps are the next logical step in the ‘fashion’ craze.
She told us today; “Certain drivers can get away with beards and ‘taches, David Coulthard suits the grizzly look and Tonio Liuzzi would look cool whatever he did, but some of the others are letting the side down on the face fungus front”
Of particular concern are Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button. When Alonso first arrived at the Shanghai circuit he was sporting a goatee and soup strainer that made him look like Captain Jack Sparrow, though thankfully this had all gone by Sunday morning.
Button though, while only slightly furry last time out at Monza, turned up in China with a crumb catcher that would make Brian Blessed proud.
Spangle said; “With a beard as red and bushy as that, Jenson really does lose out in the ‘cool’ stakes, I can only hope that he soon realises how daft it looks and takes the strimmer to it pronto”
