Hij heeft zelf contact gezocht omdat kennelijk iedereen die omgang heeft met Murat wordt nagetrokken en vernam dat een Rus (hij dus) ook in het onderzoek zit. Maar hij is niet gearresteerd, alleen meegenomen om gehoord te worden. Niemand is tot nu toe nog gearresteerd, Murat is nog steeds de enige verdachte maar er is onvoldoende bewijs voor arrestatie.

De Britse krant The Sun had een interview met de Rus, vlak voordat hij werd ondervraagd en aangehouden door de politie. De Rus verklaarde dat hij aan de computer van de éénogige Murat had gewerkt en dat de twee elkaar enkele keren hadden ontmoet. "Hij wilde een website opzetten en ik heb heel wat werk verzet om dat voor mekaar te krijgen", verklaarde hij aan de krant. Hij voegde eraan toe: "Maar ik ben niet de man die ze zoeken, zeker niet".

Gelogen over veroordelingen
De reporter van The Sun vroeg de Rus ook of hij al criminele veroordelingen had opgelopen. Daarop antwoordde hij "Niet voor zover ik weet. Ik heb pas mijn verblijfsvergunning gekregen en ik weet dat de Portugese overheid eerst controleert of er veroordelingen zijn".

Huiszoekingen
Onderzoekers die later verklaarden dat de Rus wel degelijk al is veroordeeld voor zedenfeiten, hebben contact gehad met de Russische tak van Interpol. Gisteren nog doorzochten agenten de woning van de ouders van de Rus in Praia da Luz en nog een ander huis in het nabijgelegen La Goa. Malinka woonde bij zijn ouders maar zou recent verhuisd zijn naar een appartement boven zijn computerwinkel.

Computer en gsm in beslag genomen
Agenten hebben in de villa waar Robert Murat samen met zijn 71-jarige moeder woonde al twee computers in beslag genomen, samen met video's en een gsm. Experts onderzoeken ze op tekenen van gecodeerde boodschappen of links naar verdachte websites. Murat is bij gebrek aan bewijzen inmiddels weer op vrije voeten. De man verklaarde dat de politie niets zou vinden, en dat hij onterecht wordt verdacht.

Ondergrondse kamer
Intussen is wel aan het licht gekomen dat er in het huis van Murat een ondergrondse kamer is. Het huis ligt op een boogscheut van het appartement waar de kleine Maddie veertien dagen geleden uit verdween. Volgens The Sun heeft de politie die ruimte gisteren gecheckt op vingerafdrukken. In hun zoektocht naar sporen hebben de speurders al een binnenmuur uitgebroken, het tuinhuis afgebroken en het waterreservoir en het zwembad doorzocht.

De ex-vrouw van Murat, de 41-jarige Dawn uit Norfolk heeft gisteren laten weten dat ze de politie helpt waar ze maar kan. (hln)

Madeleine suspect and Russian witness 'spoke multiple times' the night Madeleine disappeared

The Portuguese press has reported that Madeleine suspect Robert Murat and Russian witness Sergey Malinka talked more than once on the night that four-year-old Madeleine McCann disappeared. The daily newspaper Correio da Manha reported that detectives discovered there were "several" telephone calls between Mr Murat and Mr Malinka on the night Madeleine went missing.

Today Mr Malinka, 23, insisted he was innocent and said: "This has destroyed my life and career." Mr Malinka said police had questioned him until the early hours today over his links to prime suspect Robert Murat but had released him after failing to find any evidence.

The computer expert, who created a website for Mr Murat and his girlfriend Michaela Walczuch, said: "I am innocent. I am not a suspect in this case. I am merely a witness questioned like eight or nine others. "Everything that has been said about me is lies. There have been claims in the press that I am some kind of sexual maniac or paedophile. It is nonsense and I am going to take everybody who has made these claims to court."

He went on: "The police were convinced I was somehow linked to Robert, but I told them that our relationship was simply through business. All I did was set up a website for him. He is not a friend of mine." He insisted he has a "cast iron alibi" for the night of 3 May, when four-year-old Madeleine disappeared from the Mark Warner complex in the Praia da Luz resort in the Algarve.

Of the police questioning last night, he said: "They kept asking me about Robert. They wanted to know how I knew him and what my link to him was, whether I was with him that night, whether I knew where he was. I told them again and again I knew nothing and there were no close ties between us. I told them that on that night I was at home with my mother Svetlana and father Igor." Dat zie je wel vaker bij Russen, eindeloos namen noemen, ook al gaat het om je buuf en buum, in de Russische literatuur zie je dat ook, doodmoe wordt je daarvan. Maar ja, dat denk ik dan, kan ook een ietwat simpele journalist zijn.

Detectives issued an alert in a southern suburb of Lisbon, 180 miles north of Praia da Luz, where Madeleine vanished a fortnight ago. Police did not reveal when the sighting was made. It is only the second time police have disclosed reports of a girl looking like Madeleine. The other sighting was of a blonde girl aged three or four at a service station close to Praia da Luz.

She was recorded on CCTV footage, which also showed three adults - two dark-haired men and a blonde woman. But there was no confirmation that the image showed Madeleine. The dramatic move in Lisbon came as the police revealed they had searched Sergey Malinka's house in Portimao.

"During this search, several items were seized and are being examined," Chief Inspector of the Portugese Police, Olegario Sousa said. However, he stressed that Mr Malinka, an associate of Mr Murat, was being treated as a witness at this time.

The Chief Inspector also revealed that the investigation was still centred in the Algarve, and they did not have enough evidence yet to make any arrests. Police are investigating a possible sighting of missing four-year-old Madeleine McCann in Morocco.
A Norwegian woman, who was holidaying in the north African country with her British husband, says she saw a little girl fitting Madeleine’s description at a petrol station. Mari Olli, 45, who lives in Fuengirola on Spain’s Costa del Sol, was in Marrakech a week ago when she saw the child she thinks Madeleine.

Norwegian Ms Olli, 45, made the sighting over a week ago but did not realise its possible significance until she returned home with her British husband. She said: "I didn't know anything about Madeleine's disappearance at the time, but now I'm more and more sure that the girl I saw was her."

The incident happened at around 10am on Wednesday, May 9, at a petrol station next to the Ibis Palmeraie Hotel on the outskirts of Marrakech. Ms Olli said: "My husband was filling the car, and I went in the shop to buy some water. That's when I saw her - my attention was drawn straight to her.

"She was a sweet, blonde-haired girl with a very cute face. She was wearing blue pyjamas with a little pink-and-white pattern, maybe flowers, on her top." Ms Olli said she was struck by the little girl.

"She was standing alone with a man about a metre from her. She looked sad and a little lost. She looked so alone, I wanted to carry her or something. "It struck me as a very unusual situation. It was very strange to see a little girl with light skin and very, very blonde hair standing alone in Morocco.

"If you're with a small child you would normally normally hold her in your arms tight. But the man didn't look like her father." She described the man as aged between 35 and 40, with dark brown hair, not very tall, and English-looking.

Inmiddels nemen ze in Portugal de berichten over Madeleine in Marokko wel serieus, ook dat verdachte Murat wel degelijk telefonisch contact had met de Russiche 'getuige' (Malinka) op de avond van de verdwijning van Madeleine. Laatst zag ik bij het gemeentehuis een jochie met hele donkere krullen en opvallend lichtblauwe ogen. Het was een heel tenger ventje met fijne gelaatstrekken.
Als ik die later op beelden zie als zijnde ontvoerd, zou ik me dat zeker nog herinneren.

zegt die vrouw, ja.... lijkt me als je een kind ontvoerd hebt, waarvoor zo achterlijk veel media aandacht is, dat je haar zelfs in Marokko bij een benzine station waar dus ook toeristen komen, gezien die getuige, niet zo openlijk met dat kind (in pyjama) gaat lopen leuren.

als je zo dom bent, had je ws ook wel wat meer sporen op de plaats delict achter gelaten.

ik denk dat die vrouw ofwel dingen verkeerd interpreteert, ofwel het gewoon verzint, voor aandacht, ze zal de eerste niet zijn die meent iets gezien te hebben, hell, tig mensen zien complete poema's op de veluwe lopen na 1 vaag berichtje in de krant.

Wat als ze haar eerst in Portugal verstopt hielden, maar het te heet werd onder hun voeten.
Zijn ze er vandoor gegaan, naar Marokko en waren ze op dat moment nog onderweg naar een schuilplaats. Misschien moest ze wel heeel erg naar de wc.

Je weet het niet. Zou best kunnen. Lijkt me in elk geval de moeite waard om te onderzoeken. Wie weet hingen er ook in die benzineshop camera's?

"We are looking for anyone who was at the Ocean Club Resort or surrounding area in the two weeks leading up to Madeleine's disappearance on 3 May, who have photographs that might help our work." Detective Chief Superintendent Anne Harrison, of the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA), said it was possible Madeleine was still being hidden in Praia da Luz.

She also appealed for anyone who took a part in the initial search for her, before the Portuguese police arrived, to contact police on 0800 0961233.

Police have teamed up with a number of computer companies to deliver the technological power behind the website and the collection of photographs. As well as uploading them, police say the public can take any photos they might think relevant to high street photography shop Jessops, which will convert traditional prints to digital images for free.

A number of UK law enforcement agencies are helping the Portuguese authorities, including Leicestershire Constabulary, the Association of Chief Police Officers, CEOP and the NPIA.

Dat zullen andere mindere draagkrachtige ouders, dus uit een lagere sociale klasse, ook ongetwijfeld denken maar ik zou hetzelfde doen als ik de middelen en mogelijkheden had, zo dubbel ligt dat. En dat het zo'n mooi peutertje is spreekt ook veel mensen aan.

Jeetje, daar had ik nog niet van gehoord, er is ook voor alles een syndroom kennelijk. Maar goed er is nog geen enkele vooruitgang/doorbraak in het onderzoek behalve dat de eerste DNA-testen niets uitwijzen, overigens is er geen DNA van de vermiste peuter veilig gesteld, zoals van een tandenborstel, wel van de ouders: "None matches the DNA of Briton Murat or his Russian business associate Sergey Malinka, 22, who has been grilled. Nieuwe verdachte in zaak verdwenen Britse meisje
(Novum/AP) - De Portugese politie heeft een nieuwe verdachte op het oog in de zaak van het verdwenen Britse meisje Madeleine McCann. De politie zoekt een blanke man van 1,78 meter met een leeftijd tussen de 35 en 40 jaar, zei onderzoeksleider Olegario Sousa vrijdag op een persconferentie. De man zou op 3 mei, de dag waarop Madeleine verdween, een meisje hebben gedragen. De man was gekleed in een donkere jas met een beige broek.

"De man droeg een kind of een voorwerp dat voor een kind kon worden aangezien", zei Sousa tegen journalisten. De politie heeft tientallen tips over de mogelijke verblijfplaats van Madeleine nagetrokken en is nog bezig andere tips na te trekken, maar van het meisje ontbreekt tot dusver ieder spoort. Ook Interpol verschaft informatie.

Eerder bestempelde de politie een 33-jarige Brit als verdachte. Na verhoor werd de man weer heengezonden.

De ouders van Madeleine worden volgens eigen zeggen door schuldgevoelens verteerd, omdat ze de toen 3-jarige Madeleine alleen met haar broertje en -zusje van 2 in hun hotelkamer hebben achtergelaten. Gerry en Kate McCann zeiden in een interview met Sky TV er niet aan te moeten denken dat ze zonder hun dochtertje uit Portugal naar Engeland terug moeten keren. De ouders waren op 3 mei in het restaurant bij het hotelcomplex in Praia da Luz in de Algarve gaan eten terwijl hun drie kinderen lagen te slapen. Ook The Mirror maakt hier melding van: "Yesterday it was claimed child porn was found on the computer of the only suspect in the case, Briton Robert Murat, 33. The witness was on her way to join Gerry and Kate McCann for dinner near their apartment in Praia da Luz at about 9.30pm on May 3 when she saw the suspect. He was hurrying away from the area clasping a child wearing pink pyjamas similar to those worn by Madeleine, then three."

Daar was al eerder sprake van in eerdere berichten en ook die Rus Surgey Malinka (zakenrelatie van Murat en geen verdachte, alleen getuige, maar loog over hun bewezen recent tel. contact tijdens de avond van de vermissing, hadden zogenaamd al een jaar elkaar niet gesproken) onfrisse beelden op de computer. Ik ben ook nog steeds nieuwsgierig waarom de ex van Murat niet wil vertellen waarom ze destijds zijn gescheiden. Als het niks bijzonders was kan je dat toch gewoon zeggen?

Ook in de haven van Lagos marina wordt onderzoek gedaan en een mogelijke connectie met Murat: "The British sailor police seek had a yacht moored at Lagos marina in Portugal for several years but is now understood to have left the area. Police found “suspicious references” in his communications with Murat. A man was also seen carrying a child at the marina, raising fears Maddie was smuggled out by sea."

En worden experts ingezet om de mobile telefoontjes na te trekken van verdachte Murat: "So far no evidence has been found linking Madeleine’s disappearance with Murat, 33, who lives in Praia da Luz and viewed child porn on his computer.But cops will check his version of events at the time she was snatched against his phone “trail”. Ook de DailyMail meldt het havengebeuren: "Detectives have been questioning four boat owners - three of them English - whose vessels are moored at the marina in Lagos, a town about five miles from Praia da Luz. They are also trying to trace a British man who left the harbour in his yacht about three weeks ago after mooring there for two years. A witness has reported seeing a man carrying child in his arms down to the marina hours after four-year-old Madeleine disappeared."

En het nachecken van de telefoontjes: "A team of telecommunications specialists is trying to track mobiles in use around the resort in Portugal where little Madeleine was abducted. The technique, which is based on the silent transmissions mobiles send even when they are not in use, can pinpoint a phone's position to within a few yards."

"Detectives hope to use the information about phone movements on the night of Madeleine's disappearance to check against statements made by guests and staff at the Ocean Club complex."

En de fouten van de Portugese politie blijven maar toenemen, naast het niet veilig stellen/onderzoeken van DNA-sporen op Madeleine haar spulletjes is het geven van een juiste grootte van de gezochte persoon (die gezien is op de avond van de vermissing met mogelijk een kind in de armen) kennelijk ook moeilijk: "Incredibly, the error appears to have been made through a simple mis-conversion of centimetres to inches. In Portuguese, police declared that he was 170cm tall, which is 5ft 7in. Then in English, they said he was 5ft 10in. The extra three inches would make a crucial difference between a "tall" suspect and one of average height. Thus, important information from other potential witnesses might have been lost. To add further confusion, a Portuguese police press release gave a height of between 170cm and 175cm, which is between 5ft 7in and just under 5ft 9in. Dat idee krijg ik ook, ja, het verhaal moet natuurlijk draaiende gehouden worden, het is een goudmijn immers.

Ik houd nog steeds de ouders zelf als mogelijke 'daders' in gedachten.

En verder lees en bericht ik al die verhalen niet over het persoonlijk reilen en zeilen van de ouders en hun wereldtournee want dáármee staan de bladen echt knettervol. Van al die ellenlange lappen tekst haal ik enkele relevante zinnen. Maar oke, dan niet hoor.

Even een P.S. nog: ook de BBC meldt de fout: "But the family said on Tuesday that police had got a crucial fact wrong in the description of the man. The height of the man given on the Portuguese press release was 170cm (5ft 7ins) but it mistakenly appeared as 5ft 10ins in the English version."
