Moeilijk. Uiteindelijk gekozen voor Failan, omdat die film als geheel meer indruk maakte. In Discovery of Heaven is het meer het fantastische personage van Stephen Fry, gebaseerd op Hein Donner , wat mij bijgebleven is.

Ik vind het overigens een beetje krom dat de films met lage IMDb er meteen uitgeschrapt zijn. Dan was een constructie met de 43 hoogste IMDb cijfers meteen door en de 42 overgebleven strijden om de laatste 21 plaatsen een veel betere constructie geweest.

ik zie imdb dan ook maar als een halve graadmeter, enkel de bekende films met zeer veel stemmen krijgen een rating van ook "gewonere" mensen, velen verwarren artistiek/kunst met een goede filmquote:Op vrijdag 12 augustus 2005 19:10 schreef dwerg het volgende:

Dit gaat niet om de verkiezing 'Beste film van 2001 volgens de users van Fok', maar om de titel 'Beste film van 2001 volgens users van IMDB die er genoegen in scheppen om de meest obscure films hoge cijfers toe te kennen'.
als voorbeeld heb je daar bv het genre comedy: die films scoren meestal zeer lage cijfers (5-6) hoewel ze wel leuk zijn (misschien niet voor iedereen natuurlijk), andere supersaaie drama's zijjn dan weer mooi gemaakt waarna ze superveel punten krijgen...
de helft van die aziatische films (die veel te sterk aanwezig zijn in deze top naar mijn mening) vind ik persoonlijk ook sterk overated
neem nu shaolin soccer, deze krijgt een 7,3/10 ban imdb, maar het verhaal is zo dun als een blad, de karakters zijn zo dun als een blad, het acteren is zeker niet schitterend; wat zien sommigen hier dan in? want uiteindelijk wordt deze film hier als halve kunst bekeken enzo, maar in hong kong is dit dus de film voor jan modaal (zie box office van hong kong), naar mijn mening is die film dus te vergelijken met alien vs predator: veel special effects, dun verhaal aan cashen maar, een popcorn film met andere woorden
wat die hier in de selectie staat te doen snap ik dus niet, begrijp me niet verkeerd, er staan zat films tussen die zeker terecht genomineerd zijn, maar sommigen vind ik dus nogal, tja
maar ja, "andere" films heel "goed" vinden, klinkt heel stoer voor sommigen
btw, films tegenover mekaar zetten zoals (ik neem maar iets) Moulin Rouge! en Katakuri-ke no kôfuku vind ik wat belachelijk, Moulin Rouge haalt een 7,8 van 50590 votes (een objectief cijfer dus) en Katakuri-ke no kôfuku haalt een 7,3 van 1302 votes (een subjectief cijfer dus)
dit om even aan te halen dat een selectie op imdb score belachelijk is als je geen goede cijfers hebt

Eh, catfish: goede comedies krijgen hoge cijfers, slechte comedies niet. Da's toch logisch?

Ik denk dat dat ook komt doordat het aantal arthouseproducties waar je iets over hoort een veel kleiner percentage is van het totale aanbod dan de blockbusters waar je over hoort. Van alle 'kleine' films weet je van misschien tien procent dat ze überhaupt bestaan, om grote blockbusters kun je nauwelijks heen. Anderzijds gaat er natuurlijk ook een veel groter publiek naar blockbusters, waaronder ook de snobs. De non-snobs zullen echter zelden eens een Dreyer in de DVD-speler stoppen. Dat zorgt dan weer voor een minder objectief oordeel. Al denk ik dat het allemaal wel meevalt. Is er trouwens al eens een topic geopend over 'kunst' vs. 'vermaak'?
