Zie hem regelmatig in de viswinkel en ook in twee supermarkten om katten voer te kopen. Hij zag dat ik zes pakjes thee kocht, die waren 1 Plus 1, hij keek me diep in mijn ogen aan en zei: "Nou dat kan een gezellige avond worden."!

En als Kers op de Taart, kwam Andrea Utopia de supermarkt in lopen, zij droeg Oranje bedrijfskleding van Thuisbezorgd en zei tegen de kassa medewerkster: "het is hier warmer dan buiten."

In 1999 betrad Bianca Plune (51) het Big Brother-huis in Almere. Ze was reclasseringsambtenaar en wilde zelf ervaren hoe het was om 'vast te zitten'. 'Ik dacht echt dat Big Brother zo'n soort televisieprogramma zou worden,' vertelt Bianca aan Story. 'Dat je geen privacy en dergelijke zou hebben. Maar dat was het dus niet. Verre van. Ik herinner me nog dat veel psychologen in de media zich afvroegen of dit programma wel gezond was. Ik kan uit eigen ervaring zeggen dat het net gezond was. Het is slecht voor de mens om afgezonderd te worden. Dat zag je ook ten tijde van corona. Ik denk ook dat het verblijf in het Big Brother-huis mijn leven heeft bepaald. Ik ben een kluizenaar geworden. Het liefst trek ik me terug en heb weinig behoefte aan mensen om mij heen. Op mijn gezin na dan.'

Eenmaal uit het huis nam Bianca ontslag als reclasseringsambtenaar. 'Ik werkte met zware delinquenten. Ik was te bekend om dat werk nog langer te kunnen doen. Integriteit is heel belangrijk in dat werk. Natuurlijk was ik integer, maar ik vreesde dat mijn bekendheid mij in de weg zou staan. Om dat te voorkomen ben ik weggegaan.' Bianca vertrok naar Zeeland en woont naar eigen zeggen in een Pippi Langkous-huis. Samen met haar vriend en twee kinderen van 17 en 14. 'We runnen een ezelhuis. Ik heb acht reuzenezels in mijn achtertuin. Mensen kunnen bij mij logeren en met de ezels wandelen. Als gasten een gesprek met me aangaan, heb ik wat tijd nodig om echt spontaan terug te kletsen. Misschien heb ik wel wat autistische trekjes. Het zit ook in de familie, maar ik denk dat mijn verblijf in het Big Brother-huis er vooral mee te maken heeft.'

Eigenlijk zouden ze iedereen moeten verplichten om psychologische nazorg te volgen, want je weet op dat moment niet welk effect het verblijf kan hebben
Bianca vindt het jammer dat ze achteraf niet is ingegaan op de psychologische nazorg. 'Ze boden het aan, maar ik was 25 en dacht: ik kan het zelf wel. Eigenlijk hadden ze het gewoon moeten verplichten. Want niemand had ook maar enig idee wat de effecten van het verblijf in het Big Brother-huis zouden zijn. Maar het is wat is. Op zich heb ik een mooi en fijn leven, een prettig huis, een prachtig gezin, mijn dieren, en dat op een heerlijke plek. Maar wetende wat ik nu weet, zou ik nooit meer aan Big Brother meedoen. Destijds was ik gewoon te naef.'

25 jaar geleden zat Nederland aan de buis gekluisterd voor het allereerste seizoen van Big Brother. Hoe gaat het nu met de deelnemers? Deze week: Willem Boomsma (62), die nuchter bleef onder de reacties op zijn deelname aan het programma, maar daarna een enorme klap kreeg...

Vijfentwintig jaar geleden ging Willem Boomsma het Big Brother-huis in om de scheiding van zijn eerste echtgenote Tessa te verwerken. 'Van tevoren wist ik niet hoe dat zou uitpakken,' vertelt Willem aan Story. 'Door de breuk zagen mijn kinderen mij niet meer elke dag, en in ineens zagen ze me elke dag op de televisie. Maar het zorgde voor veel rust. Bij Tessa, de kinderen n bij mij. Al was het natuurlijk geen ideale situatie. Communicatie was er niet, maar vooraf hadden we daar goed over gesproken. Zij waren het er mee eens dat ik het huis in zou gaan. En het heeft goed uitgepakt. Voor mijn scheiding en het programma. Dat werd een groot succes.'

Willem bleef met medebewoners Bart en Ruud over tot de finaledag. 'Toen ik het huis uitkwam, dacht heel Nederland mij te kennen. Maar dat was natuurlijk niet zo. Ze kennen je van hoe je op televisie bent. Ik trok me daar ook niet zoveel van aan. Ik kom uit Groningen en daar zijn we nogal nuchter. Ik heb ook gewoon mijn oude leventje weer opgepakt. Ik werkte voor Big Brother in het onderwijs en ben dat daarna ook weer gaan doen, als docent op de hotelschool.'

Veel steun kreeg Willem in die tijd van zijn familie. 'Je broers en zussen, dat was voor mij een veilige omgeving. Die waren er altijd voor me. Natuurlijk zat ik er weleens doorheen en dan kon ik altijd op hen terugvallen. En ik hield contact met Bart en de anderen. Want alleen zij wisten wat je had doorgemaakt.' Spijt van zijn deelname heeft Willem niet. 'Nee, achteraf is het altijd makkelijk praten. Dingen komen op je pad en soms sla je links- of rechtsaf. Dat heeft altijd gevolgen. Het gaat zoals het gaat.'

Precies 25 jaar geleden zat Nederland aan de buis gekluisterd voor het allereerste seizoen van Big Brother. Hoe gaat het nu met de deelnemers? Deze week: Bart Spring in 't Veld, die als winnaar van het spraakmakende realityprogramma een kwart miljoen gulden ontving. Hij dacht dat zijn toekomst was verzekerd, maar dat viel tegen.

Met de eer de eerste winnaar te zijn van het programma Big Brother, interesse van heel het land n een kwart miljoen gulden op zak, voelde Bart Spring in 't Veld (48) zich 25 jaar geleden werkelijk 'on top of the world'.

Overweldigend
Drie maanden lang had hij met negen anderen in 'het huis' opgesloten gezeten. De groep werd continu door camera's gevolgd, maar was zich volledig onbewust van wat er zich in de buitenwereld rond hen afspeelde. En dat was, eenmaal buiten, overweldigend. 'We hadden echt geen idee wat ons overkwam nadat we het huis uit waren,' vertelt Bart aan Story.

Geen financile bijstand
Bart had ineens een vette bankrekening, maar kreeg geen enkele financile bijstand. 'Gelukkig heeft mijn moeder mij veel tips gegeven. Dus ik heb het geld niet over de balk gegooid. Maar ik was geen zakenman. Achteraf had ik dingen misschien beter moeten afhandelen.' Bart was populair en kon aan de slag als journalist voor tijdschriften, radio en regionale televisie. Toen hij besloot een 9 tot 5 baan te zoeken, kwam hij terecht op een wedkantoor voor paardenraces. Daarna werkte hij als medewerker bij een asbest-inventarisatiebedrijf en de laatste jaren was hij arbeidsbegeleider in de gevangenis.

Ingrijpend besluit
'Die baan heb ik inmiddels opgezegd. Want ik wil zo snel mogelijk naar Namibi emigreren. Ik wil weg uit Nederland en de Europese Unie. Ik ben het niet eens met hoe tal van zaken hier geregeld worden. En aangezien ik er persoonlijk niets aan kan veranderen, heb ik besloten om weg te gaan. Afrika heeft me altijd getrokken. Ik ben net terug uit Namibi. Twee maanden lang heb ik daar gekeken wat verstandig is om te ondernemen en contacten opgedaan. Het plan is om daar een guesthouse te beginnen. Alleen, dat kost geld. Ik schat dat ik ongeveer een ton nodig heb.'
