The national broadcaster of Czechia, Česká televize has confirmed its participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 along with the shock news that the ongoing national final, ESCZ is no more. Instead the broadcaster is opting for an internal selection to choose the Czech representative for Basel next May.
Česká televize open song submissions for Eurovision 2025
In a recent social media post, the ESCZ team confirmed the news that the national selection that been used to choose the entrants from 2018-2024 would no longer be in Česká televize’s plans for 2025. Instead, the broadcaster will move forward with an internal selection process for Eurovision 2025 taking place in Basel, Switzerland next May
Following the announcement, the broadcaster confirmed in a press release that the aim of going internal is to, “allocate resources more effectively towards staging and promotion”. So, with that in mind, the broadcaster has opened song submissions until September 30. From there, an assessment period will commence with an internal voting procedure to select the winning entry. The songs will be judged by a demoscopic jury (40%), international jury (40%) and ČT selection committee (20%). Should the result end in a tie, the ČT selection committee will have the deciding vote.
Anyone based in Czechia may apply, with no limits on the number of the songs that can be submitted. All composers of any nationality may also submit demos of songs with no artists assigned to them.
Krystof Samal, Head of Delegation:
It has been a wonderful journey to showcase Czech music on an international stage through ESCZ. Moving to a closed competition process encourages established artists to participate discreetly, without the added pressure of public competition. This approach also allows us to focus our resources on staging and both internal and external promotion. Our new direction is aimed at achieving the best possible result for Czechia, recognising the potential for Eurovision to become the phenomenon here as it is in other European countries.
Ahmad Halloun, PR and Engagement Manager:
Eurovision is a show with tremendous potential, especially among younger audiences, who are often difficult to engage (TV wise). This year, we will focus on a variety of activities both nationally and internationally, not only to promote our act but also to elevate the profile of the contest itself. We are collaborating with the EBU, various broadcasters, platforms and organisations to increase its visibility on screens and make Eurovision a more prominent part of Czech pop culture.
