Dom dom dom, echt oerdom

https://twitter.com/noclador/status/1667266063501873153I looked at the footage of the Ukrainian attack South of Mala Tokmachka... errors were made: one by higher ups & one by the attacking troops.
1) No air defense: at least three russian drones and one helicopter flew above the Ukrainians and walked russian artillery in.
This is an error of Ukraine's higher ups. To send in an armored column without any air defense capable to take out russian drones allows russian troops to spot, observe and destroy Ukrainian formations before they can even reach the first russian line.
Ukraine has to pull Gepards away from defending cities and use them to protect its armored formations (I doubt Osa or Tor can be used to hit small drones, but Gepards should be able to).
And: not one NATO army would fare better. Armored self-propelled anti-aircraft guns with radar are a niche capability in NATO
As I said yesterday NATO needs an emergency program to buy large quantities of Skyranger turrets and mount them on Puma, Ajax, AMPV, CV90, etc. chassis ASAP.
2) The Ukrainian formation was moving too close together, and then stopped within range of russian artillery and bunched up (!).
This made it easy for the notoriously imprecise russian artillery and Grad rocket launchers (pictured) to hit a few of the idling Ukrainian vehicles.
The Ukrainians had at least two mine-clearing vehicles and did clear a lane... but then one Bradley was damaged and blocked the lane. It looks like the Leopard 2A6 backed up and tried to pull the Bradley out... but then was immobilized too. Usually armored recovery vehicles (ARV) should accompany attacking formation to pull out damaged vehicles and clear the lane. I can't spot an ARV in the released videos, but as Ukraine received Bergepanzer 2, Bergepanzer 3, Wisent 1, M88A2
Hercules, and CRARRV I assume this formation had one.
After the lane was blocked Bradleys began to leave the lane. The thrown tracks could indicate that they hit mines. This Bradly has his TOW launcher up and ready to fire...

Sometime later another Ukrainian mine clearing vehicle arrived and cleared a new lane parallel to the blocked one. Likely these Bradleys tried to return to Ukrainian lines... but then one more Bradley got stuck in the lane... and then three more Bradleys tried to go around the blocked one.

Of these at least one, the furthest to the left (photo in the next tweet) hit a mine.

You can see the mine's crater under the left-most Bradley.
Losing this many vehicles in one spot is bad. There is no denying that. It also looks like all the Ukrainian crews managed to disembark. Crew survival is the main advantage of Western vehicles compares to russian vehicles.
These losses will not affect the Ukrainian offensive. The reason is that the russians have been able to release ONLY video of this one failed attack.
That the russians don't have more such videos indicates to me that in the other sectors Ukrainian units actually
DO HAVE short range air defense protecting them from russian drones.
The reasons why this unit attacked without this essential assets needs to be answered by the Ukrainians quickly, and if it turns out there was careless or negligence then consequences must follow.
One reason the russians perform so badly is because they never learn from their mistakes and never remove incompetent/careless officers.
Every Ukraine supporters needs to demand accountability: if errors were made, they need to be analyzed, lessons need to be learned, and officers, who have fail in their duties need to be relieved of command as soon as possible. The lives of the troops depend on it.
The Ukrainian offensive is still on track. Just a few of 35 brigades are engaged now. Once Ukrainian formations have broken through the russians will be routed like in Kupiansk.
In this one attack errors were made. This is just one of dozens of attacks. Don't judge the offensive by it. But demand accountability for errors in this one attack. Accountability is essential for success.
