Tot diep in de jaren '80 noemde ik de Duitsers nog 'Moffen'. De gevechtshandelingen waren afgelopen, maar de oorlog zat 30 jaar later nog heel diep.

Nu kan ik de Duitsers nog steeds niet begrijpen, hoe ze bijvoorbeeld hun superieur aanspreken met hun academische titel in plaats van hun voornaam. En ik wil zeker niet zo worden en zou de Duitsers bestrijden als ze ons probeerden te annexeren.

Dus die oorlog zit nu nog steeds in me, zelfs terwijl ik hem niet eens heb meegemaakt (maar mijn vader wel).

Putin Has 'Lost Control' as Infighting Breaks Out Among Russia's Elite

Videos have emerged on social media that appeared to show infighting among Russia's elite, with mobilized Russians allegedly complaining about accommodation conditions before being sent to fight in Ukraine.

On Wednesday, the pro-Russian Telegram channel Rybar published a video that appeared to show Russian soldiers standing in front of a passenger train. The clip has been geolocated to Russia's Belgorod region near the Ukraine border.

"We are now in the Belgorod region. There are about 500 of us. Material support, monetary allowance...Absolutely nothing!" the cameraman states, panning the video to his fellow soldiers. The majority have their face covered with masks.

The man filming the video says that the men, conscripted as part of Russian President Vladimir Putin's September 21 partial mobilization decree, don't know where they are being deployed.

"There is absolutely zero preparation," he says, while another man in the video adds: "We eat what we buy for ourselves."

Analyzing the clip, journalists have suggested that the video could be staged by Yevgeny Prigozhin, founder of the Russian mercenary outfit, the Wagner Group, over his dissatisfaction with how the Ukraine war is being handled.

Journalist Mark Krutov of Radio Liberty noted that some men appear to be wearing badges that bear the Wagner Group symbol.

Before Krutov geolocated the clip, he tweeted: "wherever it's filmed it starts to smell like a staged story now a little bit for me."

"The video was posted on and being reposted by pro-Wagner channels, which matches Prigozhin's 'Fire Shojgu' narrative...Also some Wagner patches are visible on it. Nearly all 'poor mobiks' (mobilized men) on the video wear balaclavas," Krutov wrote.

"(I think patches are just a kind of Prigozhin's 'Easter egg' here). The guy also makes a weird claim they've all (he says 500 people) got COVID on that train," he added.

Eliot Higgins, the founder of the investigative journalism group Bellingcat, also suggested Prigozhin could be staging clips to underline the Kremlin.

"If Prigozhin is using Wagner to stage videos to undermine [Russian Defense Minister Sergei] Shoigu then Putin really has lost control of the situation," he tweeted. "Also pretty funny seeing Prigozhin direct his disinformation efforts from the West to Putin and Russia. I suspect a heart attack or a fall out a window could be on the cards."

Prigozhin, alongside Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, previously criticized the leadership of the Russian army amid Putin's flagging war.

On Wednesday, the Russian news outlet Gulagu reported that a Wagner fighter shot a Russian army officer shot a top lieutenant in Ukraine's eastern Donbas region.

"They are trying to hush up a number of incidents at the front. So, in the Donetsk region, a Wagner PMC fighter shot a lieutenant colonel of the Russian army during the conflict. They are trying to hush up the incident and prevent publicity. And this is not the first incident of its kind," the report said.

Als je goed luistert kun je het vanuit Moskou horen rommelen. En dat terwijl alle sancties en wapenleveranties allemaal niets uithalen en we alleen maar onszelf de schulden in werken! Bizar hoe dat gaat.

On Wednesday, The Daily Beast reported that Vladimir Putin's effort to mobilize mercenaries for his war effort in Ukraine is descending into disaster, with one of them killing a Russian lieutenant colonel in an incident the Kremlin is trying to cover up.

"The Kremlin’s flailing bid to get an edge on the battlefield by deploying mercenaries from the Wagner Group — which now includes hundreds of prison inmates — has reportedly backfired as the private military force butts heads with the Russian military," reported Allison Quinn. "The growing conflict resulted in a Wagner fighter gunning down a lieutenant colonel in the Russian army — a deadly episode of 'friendly fire' that the Kremlin is said to be trying to sweep under the rug, according to the human rights group Gulagu.net."

Per the report, the incident — which took place in an unknown area — was highlighted by two Russian Telegram channels. And it is just the latest in a series of violent incidents within the ranks.

"Earlier this week, a mass brawl broke out between newly drafted Russian troops and contract soldiers at a military base outside Moscow, Baza reported," said the report. "Nearly two dozen contract soldiers are said to have taken a beating from the draftees and were rescued after locking themselves in a separate room and phoning police for help. The fight reportedly erupted after some of the contract soldiers demanded the newly arrived draftees hand over their mobile phones and gear. The tumult seen between the troops has also visibly carried over to Russia’s wider information space, with pro-Kremlin military bloggers getting increasingly outspoken in their criticisms of top military command and Putin’s more radical allies publicly deriding those in charge of the war."

All of this comes as Putin is calling up the draft to supply more troops to fight in Ukraine, doing away with his former pretense the war was simply a "special military operation" — and triggering an exodus of young Russian men from the country.

It also comes as the Russian military faces dire shortages of supplies that render them unable to give even the most basic of necessities to currently deployed and newly drafted soldiers. A recent viral video showed a Russian military commander telling new troops that they are responsible for bringing their own medical supplies, and that they should use tampons to plug bullet wounds due to lack of bandages.
