Bonnie Pointer, een van de vier oorspronkelijke Pointer Sisters, is op 69-jarige leeftijd overleden. Dat heeft haar zus Anita gemeld aan entertainmentsite TMZ. Over de doodsoorzaak is niets bekend.
De vier zussen Ruth, Anita, Bonnie en June begonnen hun zangcarrière in de jaren zestig in de kerk van hun vader. Begin jaren 70 scoorden ze hun eerste hits als The Pointer Sisters, met nummers als Yes we can can en How long (Betcha got a chick in the side).
Bonnie nam in 1978 afscheid van de groep en ging solo verder. Ze tekende bij platenlabel Motown, waar ze nog twee albums uitbracht. Na een ruzie met de uitgeverij verdween ze van het grote podium. De andere Pointer Sisters gingen verder als trio en scoorden hits als Fire en Jump (for my love).
Bonnie Pointer is de tweede zus die overlijdt. June stierf in 2006.

Paul Chapman, the Welsh rock guitarist best known for his work in UFO and WAYSTED, has died at the age of 66. His passing was confirmed by his son, who wrote on Paul's Facebook page: "It is with a heavy heart writing this, today is my dads 66th birthday. He passed away earlier this afternoon. He was a brilliant, energetic, loving and most carefree person and the First man I ever loved. Everyone he came in contact with loved him. no ADORED him. will keep everyone posted on his celebration of life. I appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers as his family grieves and processes everything at this time. I love you Dad. So much."
In Paul's early career, his first notable band was the Welsh outfit UNIVERSE. Chapman then joined SKID ROW in December 1971 replacing Gary Moore as guitarist. His tenure was fairly short and only lasted until July 1972. His next band was KIMLA TAZ, with whom he was guitarist from December 1972 to May 1974.
Chapman first joined UFO in 1974 as a second guitarist to augment the band's live sound, having answered an advert in U.K.'s music paper Melody Maker. He auditioned at the Unity Theatre in London. Although Chapman did not record an album during this period, he did join in time to tour and promote the "Phenomenon" album. However, he can be heard with the band on several tracks on the BBC live sessions album that was released retrospectively. He left UFO in January 1975 and went on to form LONE STAR, where he remained until June 1978. In 1977, he filled in for Michael Schenker in UFO when they were on tour with RUSH in the United States during one of the German guitarist's absences.
Chapman recorded his first album with UFO, 1980's "No Place To Run", with ex-BEATLES producer George Martin. He remained in UFO until 1983 and played on another three albums, "The Wild, The Willing And The Innocent" (1981), "Mechanix" (1982) and "Making Contact" (1983).
Chapman later hooked up with former UFO bandmate Pete Way in WAYSTED and recorded the albums "The Good The Bad The Waysted" and "Save Your Prayers". He rejoined a reformed WAYSTED in 2003 and completed a new album before resigning from the band in November 2004. Chapman also went on to form a new band PCP (PAUL CHAPMAN PROJECT).
In recent years, Chapman had been teaching music at his studio in Melbourne, Florida.

Bobby Lewis, de r&b-zanger achter het nummer Tossin' and Turnin' - een van de grootste Amerikaanse hits uit de vroege jaren zestig - stierf eind april op 95-jarige leeftijd. Billboard kreeg de dood van de zanger ,bijna twee maanden nadat hij aan een longontsteking stierf, bevestigd van zijn zoon.
Lewis, die werd geboren in de Amerikaanse staat Indianapolis, werd vooral bekend door de originele versie van Tossin' and Turnin', die hij in de herfst van 1960 opnam. In de zomer van 1961 stond de single zeven weken lang bovenaan de Billboard Hot 100.
Tossin' and Turnin' werd bovendien uitgeroepen tot Billboards nummer één single van 1961 en eindigde daarmee hoger dan nummers als Dions Runaround Sue, Del Shannons Runaway , The Shirelles' Will You Love Me Tomorrow en Elvis Presleys Surrender.

In 1967 vertrok Tippett uit Bristol naar Londen. Het was de tijd van de geboorte van de jazzrock. Tippett speelde daar een voorname rol in. Nog als lid van de Blue Notes (van Chris MacGregor) vormde Tippett zijn eerste combo, in korte tijd had hij een bijzondere groep van musici om zich heen verzameld, onder meer: Elton Dean (saxofoon), Mark Charig (trompet), Nick Evans (trombone), Roy Babbington (bas) en John Marshall (drums). Ze produceerden een tweetal albums You Are Here I Am There (1970) en Dedicated To You But You Weren't Listening (1971). In dezelfde tijd ontwikkelden zich de groepen Nucleus en Soft Machine. De musici die in deze drie combinaties speelden zouden in de voortgaande jaren in verschillende formaties samen met elkaar werken.
