quote:Lord god but his return to the Eurovision stage is a powerful one.
“Outlaw in ‘Em” oozes bluesy angst, driving guitars and a voice that is so emotive, you completely believe every damn thing this masterful singer and performer says in song.
You don’t really need to love or listen to country rock to completely throw yourself headlong into this amazing song which is another distinctive entry in a year of reasonably safe choices.
For that reason alone, and Waylon and his tuneful confirmation that everyone’s got a little outlaw in ’em, as accurate a statement on the human condition as you’re likely to get at Eurovision, should do well; having said that country music doesn’t tend to do well at the contest so everything will come down to Waylon converting the naysayers to his righteous cause.
Something tells he’s got every chance in the world of doing that.
En bijna in alle reacties eronder staat NL ook tussen de tien. Pfew. Ben benieuwd.quote:Op woensdag 25 april 2018 15:55 schreef Wuwwa het volgende:
Reacties op het stuk:quote:Andrea: Super. Simple but striking too. I'm not a fan of country music, so I still liked this song. How much is this type of music present to the Netherlands I leave to others for discussion.
Bartol: Really, but really can not listen to this song to the end. I'm not a country fan or a hunter, but I honestly hope that this does not go into the final. It's not just a voice that is really respectable.
Bojan: Uh, i adore coutry sound so this is the start immediately plus me. All the potential songs that Waylon had in circulation were good to me. I do not know if he will succeed in repeating success four years ago, but my playlist was welcome any time. I look forward to a Dutch show! ☺
Faruk: One of the few, if not the only song this year, about which I have no attitude. It just keeps me neutral and cold for three minutes. I respect the courage to go genetically, to bring something different on Eurosong. Plus, such songs would have to please me, by some personal taste. But he does not go, so he does not go.
Luna: Take me down to the paradise city ... Ups, the wrong song. In principle, it's not a bad song, but it's not some material to win, or the material I'll be listening to on the road to work.
Tomislav: I'm not a country fan, but I have to admit that this song really bought me. I love this guitar riff that runs through the whole song that creates the impression of being somewhere in the wild west, drinking your whiskeys while waiting for the duel that you have caused because you're a man with a steel gun. 😀
Tsja, you either hate it or love itquote:Netherlands - I love this style, I love the song, everything I do, definitely going to the final, I have nothing more to do
The Netherlands, we are not among the best this year, but not even among those bad, the golden 7/10
I am deceived by this americanization of the euroong! Crazy !!! If you like so much to those "over the bare" do it in any way, not over eurosong .. do not touch it .. NO PASARAN !!!
Waylon is a Dutch hawk, a bahati of Max Verstapen, and what to say about his song .. she was supposed to stay where it originally came from, in American Tennessee .. 4/10
The Netherlands is super
The Netherlands - I like listening to country music and even the heavy American style of country ... it's just this song in that dress ... I like it, I like it ... but I do not know how this will fit in with the euro listener ... it can be great since it has elements of rock music ... most of all, I like his powerful vocals ... me, another male vocal of this year's competition, just behind Eugen Bushpepe .... I do not remember when the male vocals such powerful vocals had .... (8/10, rating 3, TOP: 17/43)
The Netherlands-I do not like it
Netherlands - American country at Eurosong !? Oh yeah! Bravo Waylon, I could never think I would have liked something like this!
4 and my 15th place.
The Netherlands- I do not know. It's neither bad nor good. It is not something that is Eurovision, but it is going to pass. Total average. 5/10

quote:Ugh, I'm so annoyed with The Netherlands. Why didn't he keep things simple?
What the fuck NL. WHAT. HOW difficult would it have been to just have them play the instruments? This seemed like such an easy mistake to avoid. I am at a loss really
Yup, Waylon's staging looks a bit floppy.
fuck me Waylon, you had one job
now we know why Ilse doesn't like Waylon. guess she had all the taste in that relationship
Waylon will qualify anyway, the song on its own is very strong (escforum)
quote:Vocally this is totally solid and there is a guy beating the drum at the back which adds some depth to the whole thing but why oh why the addition of irrelevant and distracting dancing? (oneurope)
quote:Waylon is wearing a leopard print suit. Although I don't mind the suit, I don't feel it's right for the performance as I feel it takes you away from the song. 1 of the performers starts dancing in front of Waylon, followed by another 1. I find this quite distracting& I think it spoils the performance. Behind Waylon are a series of hexagons with light coming out. There are also golden hexagon lights flashing out of the platform with a blue background. The singers jump off the platforms. All performers apart from Waylon are now dancing. Again, I find this quite distracting& don't feel like it compliments the song at all. Overall although I don't love the song, I do think that this will qualify (escbubble)
quote:Richard – What can I say about Waylon’s performance? Vocally there was nothing wrong and it was like Waylon was giving us a Country & Western Rock concert. That is where the positives tend to end. Two of the guitarists break out into some sort of wacky, weird and frenetic dance – quite frankly this is just odd. The other guitarist and drummer carry on playing their instruments. Work really is required for this to progress any further.
John – A decent contemporary pop song, and I have to say that it needs work. Waylon is on stage with four musicians – three guitarists and a drummer. It starts off fine, although the jacket is a high-risk strategy. Then the musicians do some sort of modern dancing that really doesn’t fit with the song. The dancing is way too modern. It needs paring back and concentrating on Waylon, so he can deliver the song. The vocal is sound enough, so they should just stick with the sort of thing in the official video. Nothing more. (eurovisionireland)
quote:It's a flashing beginning as Waylon and his band members - three guitarists and a drummer who at times also double as a dancer with some very particular choreography that reminds me most of all of the Italian gorilla from last year. The guitars are being played while moving up and down in sync.Later the backings all leave their instruments and dance / do acrobatics - quite a lot happening on stage which is what I had not expected, it distracts from the song and Waylon's very good vocals, which are really the best part of this performance.
The Netherlands are up next, with Waylon taking to the stage. He seems to be joined by a hybrid of Pirates of the Caribbean and YMCA (especially the hyperactive guitarist to his right). In terms of the staging, it's pretty much the same as the first video for the first minute until the guitarists become dancers. Vocally sound but an odd concept to say the least.(esckaz)
quote:Waylon sounds fine (but that was never going to be an issue). One of the dancers-pretending-to-be-guitarists is particularly eager with his breakdancing while still wearing a guitar. Not exactly buying me over, but Waylon is as great eyeing the cameras as he was four years ago.
He and his band are standing on platforms, with constantly blinking yellow lights. Two dancers are with them on the side, they're going crazy, with almost robotic movements. However, robots don't have six-packs like that... (escnation)
quote:Over to Netherlands now and what appears to be a blend of US Country-Rock meets 1970s Live & Let Die Bronx as pimp-suited Waylon is joined on stage by four industrial black dancers. The dancing is aggressive and certainly not vote-motivating. Stage director Hans Pannecoucke has once again proven that he’s a one trick pony. Waylon in serious danger here as he’s getting nothing from the televote. (esctips)
Hoe kunnen we Pannecoucke (en Cornald die een 9/10 gaf voor de stagingplannen) nou nog ooit serieus nemen?quote:Op woensdag 2 mei 2018 00:11 schreef grazz het volgende:

Had (non fan) people round and we watched sime clips ... sober I might add
The two they liked most were NL and Israel, universally they said the Dutch song looked strongest. They ridiculed Norway, Finland and Australia, but there was much joy at Moldova.
I live in Cambridge though, and people here are strange.
