Het verschil is dat je op jouw manier een album als verzameling van losse liedjes ziet. Vandaar waarschijnlijk ook zoveel 'best of's in je lijst. Mja, dat probleem herken ik vooral bij La Roux en Hot Fuss. Die hadden na 6 (8) nummers wel mogen stoppen.

Maar een slecht liedje is gewoon een liedje waarbij als het langs komt me echt stoort. In mijn lijst denk ik dan aan Morning Bell/Amnesiac op Amnesiac, die zou 10-15 plaatsen hoger kunnen staan zonder dat liedje.

Het is wel zo dat veel mensen teveel waarde als album als een vakkundig opgebouwd doorlopend geheel zien.

The Joshua Tree is dan ook een verzameling erg goede nummers, waar de samenhang vooral bestaat uit de sfeer en de sound van de nummers. De volgorde van de nummers is eigenlijk alleen van belang bij concept albums, waarbij de hele plaat een verhaal vertelt waarvan de nummers hoofdstukken zijn.


Het is natuurlijk wel zo, dat als je een album vaak gedraaid hebt, je die nummers wel in die volgorde MOET horen. Maar dat heeft dan meer met je eigen verwachting te maken.

Niets klinkt als the xx. Het meest interessante is het eigen geluid: fluisterende zang, het gebruik van stilte, duidelijk uitgesponnen lijnen, die gitaar, minimalistische instrumentatie. En eigenlijk moet ik Night Time ook gewoon een 9 geven .

Leuke exercitie wel.
Ik heb net even gepoogd dit bij mijn nummer 1 en 2 te doen, maar ik kom voornamelijk op achten en negens uit voor de nummers, met een enkele 10 en een enkele 7.

Sommige nummers zijn natuurlijk ook gewoon goed omdat ze deel uitmaken van zo'n geweldig album, wat je al zo vaak met zoveel plezier geluisterd hebt.

Mijn nummer 1 staat juist op 1 omdat het album als geheel zo goed werkt. Luister m ook altijd van begin tot eind.

Een tegenhanger daarvan is bv Joanna Newsom's drieluik. Daar luister ik zelden meer dan 2 of 3 nummers van. Maar voor alle 18 nummers daarvan geldt dat ze n eigen karakter hebben die je prima los van de rest kan beluisteren. Da's weer de kracht van dat album.

Bij mij scoren albums die ik altijd aan kan zetten doorgaans het hoogst, ongeacht stemming en zich dan soort van vormen naar die stemming. Multi-inzetbare albums die als geheel erg goed weg luisteren. Niet alle nummers hoeven los goed te zijn inderdaad. Op het debuut van Spinvis (mijn nummer 1) staan redelijk wat losse fragmenten of muzikale flarden tussendoor. Zet je nooit los op, maar dragen bij aan de sfeer van het album.

Ik luister elk album van begin tot eind. Net zoals ik een mix zou luisteren, tenzij een album of mix heel slecht is dan zet ik hem af. Als ik mijn lijst even doorkijk heb ik ook bijna bij geen album dat ik er echt slechte nummers op vindt staan. Ja oké We Will Fall van de Stooges is te lang voor wat het is. Zoals gezegd dat taperecorder geneuzel op Daydream Nation. Maar meestal blijft dit zo beperkt dat ik het niet eens de moeite van een skip waard vind. Moet ook zeggen dat van de topalbums ook de mindere nummers na een tijdje vaak beter gaan klinken omdat zoals cafca zegt ze geheel zijn van een prachtig album en je ervoor opwarmt.
Losse nummers luister ik eigenlijk alleen als ik in gezelschap ben.
