Having served for years on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, including during the just-completed 114th Congress and previously on the Senate Armed Services Committee, Sen. Coats has a keen understanding of the national security threats currently facing our nation and the solutions required to address them.
“I’m very confident that Senator Dan Coats is the right choice to serve as Director of National Intelligence,” said President-elect Trump. “Dan has clearly demonstrated the deep subject matter expertise and sound judgment required to lead our intelligence community. The DNI is also responsible for delivering the President’s Daily Brief, which fuses intelligence from across various agencies to give the President the most up-to-date information on threats around the world, among other critical responsibilities.
As Director of National Intelligence, Sen. Coats will bring decades of experience and profound judgment to the supervision and coordination of America’s intelligence efforts. The safety of the American people and security of the American homeland will be his top priorities.

In the four decades OGE has existed, potential cabinet picks have never gone before the Senate before being fully vetted. Worse, a public records request showed the OGE has completely lost contact with the Trump transition team in November, while Shaub was trying to warn that they were risking embarrassing the president-elect by announcing cabinet picks before notifying OGE.
Shaub: "For as long as I remain Director, OGE's staff and agency ethics officials will not succumb to pressure to cut corners and ignore conflicts of interest."

Het hele idee van zo'n commissie is om te onderzoeken of er geen sprake is van onder andere financiële belangenverstrengeling, dus dat kost meer tijd als er veel financiële belangen zijn.

Dat is ook niet gek, en terecht. Maar ik vond het amusant dat er eerst hard geroepen werd vanuit het andere kamp dat Trump's keuzes diep onderzocht moesten worden (volgens mij is dat altijd zo, maar goed), maar dat dit bureau nu als het ware 'swamped' wordt door de hoeveelheid.quote:

Dat is net als met het districtenstelsel in de UK, bij de verkiezingen in 2015 had de UKIP 12,7% van de stemmen met 3,8 miljoen stemmers.
Toch leverde dat maar 1 zetel op voor UKIP....
De Conservative Party had 36,8% van de stemmen en dat leverde 330 zetels op
