The Muqawama Suriya, as I have profiled previously, is a pro-Assad militia led by Turkish born Alawite Ali Kayali, who prior to the Syrian civil war had been focused on bringing the Sanjak of Alexandretta in Turkey under Syrian rule. Though the group is primarily based in Latakia, it also had considerable influence in Idlib province, including in Idlib city and Jisr al-Shughur, both of which recently fell to rapid rebel offensives spearheaded by jihadist forces, including Jabhat al-Nusra and the Turkestan Islamic Party. In the latest statement below from the Muqawama Suriya Aleppo office, the defeat in Jisr al-Shughur is portrayed as a strategic retreat and regrouping on the periphery, with emphasis on the need for Syrians to support the long war effort. Below is a photo from Jisr al-Shughur last year when the Muqawama Suriya advocated for the "re-election" of Assad as president.
The recent losses in Idlib province put into serious doubt the Muqawama Suriya's effectiveness as a fighting force in holding and retaking territory from rebel onslaughts. This has also been in evidence in Latakia province, where last year it took the group along with the Syrian army and other forces months to regain Kassab on the border with Turkey. Despite much Muqawama Suriya trumpeting of operations in Latakia, little progress has been made to drive out rebels from the northeast of the province. The latest statement translated below is particularly noteworthy because it clearly implies growing war weariness among pro-Assad circles (e.g. conscription evasion) exacerbated by the recent losses in Idlib province, whereas the Muqawama Suriya, despite its status as an irregular force, portrays itself as staunchly loyalist to the supposed long war grand strategy. The stress too on the need for the war to become one of "the people" (sha'abiya) and spearheaded by the Syrian army as a professional force and other "national" forces is interesting for it implicitly acknowledges some of the increasing resentment in regime circles that the war effort is too dependent on foreign irregular forces, such as Hezbollah, Iraqi Shia militias like Liwa Dhu al-Fiqar (mainly Damascus based), Kataib Sayyid al-Shuhada (notable role in the fighting in Deraa) and Harakat al-Nujaba (playing a notable role in the fighting in Aleppo province), as well as Afghan and Pakistani Shia militias (the latter embodied in a formation called Liwa Zainebiyoun: see profile here). The denouncing of capitalism at the end of the statement is in keeping with the Muqawama Suriya Marxist-Leninist ideology, and the statement concludes with the familiar group slogan "Suriya lan tarka'" (Syria will never bow).

French delegation in Lattakia: Syria is fighting terrorism on behalf of the world
Mikdad: Syria is fighting a new form of apartheidquote:Members of a French delegation who is currently visiting Syria affirmed Sunday that Syria is on the frontline of the battle in defense of the world against terrorism, expressing their solidarity with and support for the Syrian people against terrorism.
During their meeting with Lattakia Governor Ibrahim Khuder al-Salem, the delegation members hailed the co-existence and tolerance among the Syrian people, stressing that they intend to convey the true image of what is happening in Syria and the damage caused by terrorists to the French people.
In a press statement following the meeting, al-Salem said that the frequent visits by French delegations to Syria prove that the French people are convinced that their media is conveying an image which is completely different from reality.
The delegation members said they came to Syria to have a first-hand look at the situation in it away from Western media fabrications and to show support for Syria which is in the middle of a terrorist war waged against it.
This is the second visit to Lattakia by a French delegation. A group of French tourists visited Syria earlier this month to show solidarity with the Syrian people.

“While we are gathered here to celebrate the victory of South Africa, we are countering the international terrorism and its backers in KSA, Qatar, Turkey, France and the US,” Dr. Mikdad said, adding that the repercussions of terrorism will not affect Syria alone but rather will bounce back to affect its backers and funders wherever they are”.
Dr. Mikdad concluded by saying that Syria is now fighting a new form of apartheid, which is the international terrorism along with its backers, adding that Syria will be victorious.
For his part, Byneveldt stressed the deep-rooted relations between the two friendly countries, highlighting his country’s keenness on promoting these relations in all domains.
He said that the road to freedom and democracy was not paved in South Africa and the achievement of freedom was not possible without the help and support of real friends like Syria and other countries.
This 27th of April marks South Africa’s 21st celebration of the Freedom Day, when the first elections took part in the country in 1994 after the fall of the apartheid in 1990. These elections brought Nelson Mandela into office after spending 27 years in prison because of his rejection of the apartheid regime.

In a special event held for Independence Day, Ya'alon did not confirm the reports, but said that "Iran continues to try and arm Hezbollah, even now, and strives to equip the Lebanese terror group (Hezbollah) with advanced and accurate weapons."
According to Ya'alon, Iran's "Revolutionary Guard and Hezbollah know Israel's red lines in this regard and that it has no intention of compromising: We will not allow advanced arms to reach terror groups, first and foremost Hezbollah, and we will go anywhere, anytime (to stop them), he said.
The IDF and the security services refused to comment on the strikes.
According to the Al Jazeera report, the strike occurred on Friday and was intended to hit the 155th and 65th Brigades of the Syrian army, which specialize in strategic weaponry and long-range missiles. Sources which reported to the Qatari network said several explosions were heard in the Syrian towns of Al-Qutayfah, Yabroud and Qarah on the outskirts of Damascus.
Meanwhile, a Syrian opposition official currently outside of the country claimed overnight, based on sources within Syria, that the target was weapon stores.
At the same time, an Al-Arabiya reporter in Israel claimed that on Wednesday the Israeli military attacked a weapons convoy intended for Hezbollah. The reporter claimed one person was killed in the strike.
