FINGERPRINTS FOUND ON BACKPACK AND CONTENTS
Adelitia Coriat reports:
Translation:
A dozen fingerprints were found on the Apple and Samsung phones owned by Lisanne Froon and Kris Kremers, the Dutch women who died in unclear circumstances after hiking the el Sendero del Pianista, in the district of Boquete, Chiriqui.
The report prepared by the Netherlands Forensic Institute reveals that three of the traces were found in the self-adhesive tape that connected the camera and phones.
One of the traces, of which a photograph was sent to the Panamanian prosecution, may be matched in the database of Panama. The fact seems to have gone unnoticed by prosecutor Pittí Bethsaida, who so far has not checked the fingerprint with the locals who handled objects or with other possible suspects.
According to Enrique Arrocha, lawyer for the Kremers family, the prosecutor has not taken statements from people who gave the belongings of the young women to the prosecution, let alone checked DNA or other elements found on clothing and items from the girls.
DNA SAMPLES
The Dutch forensic report failed to detect DNA profiles on phones and camera. However, of the bras found on the bank of river Culubre, six samples were recovered. Five of them did not allow to get DNA profiles; the sixth was from one of the employees of the Institute.
Of the backpack 13 samples were obtained, and it was determined that two of them came from two unknown women. In the fifth sample a DNA profile which was a mixture of two unknown persons, of which at least one is a man, was found.
The theory of fiscal Bethsaida Pittí is that the Dutch were lost during their tour of the trail and died in an accident. The prosecutor also referred to a report prepared by the National Environmental Authority where the presence of wild animals is stated in the area that Kris and Lisanne explored.
However, in no line of the Dutch report evidence of attack by a wild animal was detected.
BOTANICAL TRACES
Of which there were indeed traces was of of pieces of leaves and soil material on the backpack and bras. The Dutch forensic institute failed to determine the source of plants for lack of reference. The is the task of the Panamanian prosecution, but, to date, Pittí has not compared these results with the vegetation at the site where the objects were found or any surrounding area.
For criminologists, the evidences that the prosecution has obtained so far are sufficient to start a homicide investigation. The findings are a sign that the girls were not lost, as claimed by the prosecutor, but that they were killed and their remains, bones and belongings, placed on the banks of river Culubre intentionally - at a12 hours walk from where they were seen for the last time.
Arrocha reported that anthropological examination of the skeletal remains of young determined that a rib of Kris was in an area where phosphate is present, which would explain its whitish color. However, the prosecution has not established whether the bone was subjected to a chemical process intentionally or whetether it was circumstantial.
Recently, Pittí gave the bones (evidence for the prosecution) of Lisanne to her relatives. At the same time, said she was waiting for requests by the family Kremers to hand over skeletal remains to them. Laweyer Arrocha said he will not do that, because it is essential evidence to complete the investigation.
The European forensics also revealed that the girls made several calls to helplines in The Netherlands and Panama, 112 and 911, respectively.
