Ukraine: Forces control most of 2 separatist areas
KIEV, Ukraine – A top Ukrainian security official says government troops have cleared more than a dozen towns of armed pro-Russia separatists and now control two-thirds of the eastern regions at the centre of the insurgency.
National security council secretary Andriy Parubiy said Friday that Ukrainian forces are still attacking rebel positions with artillery and planes. He said 17 villages had been secured by government forces since a unilateral cease fire expired Monday.
He said Ukrainian forces now control 23 of 36 local regions within Donetsk and Luhansk provinces, two regions along the Russian border that have declared independence from the government in Kyiv.
The rebels are still fighting back. Rebels shelled the Donetsk airport overnight and an AP reporter said a radar or communications tower there was still burning in the morning.

Sloviansk, Kramatorsk preparing for evacuation

The headquarters on the temporary evacuation of displaced persons is planning to organize next week the mass transportation of civilian population from Kramatorsk and Sloviansk, as well as other towns in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
The interior minister's adviser, Zorian Shkiriak, said this at a briefing on Friday, a Ukrinform correspondent reported.
Shkiriak said that the names of specific settlements where civilians will be brought from the area of the anti-terrorist operation would be known on Monday when a complete evacuation plan is disclosed.
He said that the state takes responsibility for ensuring the effective protection of those leaving the Donbas. He noted that thousands of people were expected to leave the towns where military hostilities are ongoing.

As many as 125 Ukrainian servicemen have been killed in combat operation in the territory of the newly proclaimed Luhansk Peoples Republic since July 2, the press service of the Luhansk Peoples Republic said on Friday.
The Luhansk Republics forces, according to the press service, destroyed a Grad multiple launch rocket system, a mortar battery, two armored personnel carriers, four tanks, three infantry fighting vehicles, four howitzers and three planes of the Ukrainian army.
Since July 2, the foe has been continuously shelling and bombing a number of cities and settlements in the Luhansk Peoples Republic, including suburbs of the capital city. Retaliation fire destroyed a tent of Ukrainian army officers, the press service said. Self-defense forces are concentrated on two key tasks: to defend Luhansk and the Izvarino check point at the border with Russia.

The administration of Donetsk region on Friday said fighting between government and illegal armed forces was underway currently in the region's city of Kramatorsk, districts of Artemivsk, Maryinka and Yasynuvata, and city and district of Sloviansk.
The administration said in a statement that government forces were currently besieging the town of Mykolayivka near Sloviansk and had destroyed six strongpoints and an ammunition depot of separatists, who were trying to retain their positions.
In the town of Sloviansk, the Karachun mountain was still under fire. In the village of Semenivka near Kramatorsk, an ammunition and weapons depot had been destroyed, and government forces had taken control of part of an arterial motor road linking Kharkiv in Ukraine to Rostov-on-Don in Russia, the statement said.
There were recurrent artillery attacks in Kramatorsk, with civilians having been injured, the public transportation system paralyzed, and disruptions in electricity and natural gas supply in villages on the city outskirts, the administration said.
Gunfire was raging in the town of Siversk and villages of Kirovka and Novoluhanske in Artemivsk district. The local airspace was under the control of the government air force. In the village of Reznikivka, electricity transmission lines, the water supply system and natural gas pipelines had been damaged, and communications were severed, the statement said.
In Shakhtarsk district, battles were in progress in Saur-Mohyla. "Gunfire is making it impossible to restore electricity supply in Dmytrivka and Stepanivka," the administration said.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko during a telephone conversation with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton said Ukraine had proposed a venue for the next meeting of the Ukraine-Russia-OSCE contact group to settle the situation in the eastern part of the country.
As reported, on July 2, the foreign ministers of Germany, France, Russia and Ukraine during their meeting in Berlin said that the Ukraine-Russia-OSCE contact group on the settlement of the situation in Ukraine's east should convene no later than July 5, with the goal of reaching agreement on a ceasefire.

Police headquarters being moved out of cities of Donetsk, Luhansk
The police headquarters in the regions of Donetsk and Luhansk are being temporarily relocated, being moved out of the cities of Donetsk and Luhansk, the Interior Ministry said on July 4.
The headquarters of Donetsk is moving to Mariupol and that of Luhansk to Svatove. Their personnel are to arrive at the new sites of service by July 7, the ministry says in an address to the two regions' police forces.

People left the Slavyansk Interior Ministry City Department as it grew light, at about 3:40 am. Everything was thrown aside in the offices of the Department -- personal items, guns, even money.
The detainees did not see a single terrorist in Slavyansk. They drove off to Kramatorsk without hindrance. According to them, all the checkpoints are empty on the road to Kramatorsk.
According to another source, in Kramatorsk there has been active movement observed along Kima Street, leading toward Artyomovsk. There are tank treads visible. It is supposed that the terrorists have broken through in that direction.
The eyewitnesses emphasize that most of the separatists are dressed in civilian clothing and traveling in civilian cars.
