KAA Kaaskoppen in het Buitenland
Nee, geen oud-Hollands spel, maar een forum voor Nederlanders die in het buitenland wonen.
Als mensen in den vreemde je vragen waar je vandaan komt wat zeg je dan?
Sta je er op dat je uit 'the Netherlands' komt of is Holland ook goed zelfs als je niet uit een van die 2 provincies komt?
Bij de belastingdienst hier in Engeland vroegen ze me naar mijn nationaliteit en had iets van 7 of 8 keuzes terwijl andere nationaliteiten maar max 3 keuzes hadden. Ik heb 'Dutch' gekozen omdat ik altijd maar dacht dat we (iig officieel) maar 1 naam voor onze nationaliteit hadden.
Als een officiële instantie wilt weten waar ik vandaan kom is het 'the Netherlands', maar in het gewone leven kom ik uit Holland en dat terwijl ik een Achterhoeker ben.
Soms vertellen mensen me dan trots of ik niet the Netherlands bedoel. "ahhh haha you know!"
In de census (volkstelling) geef ik trouwens Saxon op zowel voor nationaliteit, taal en religie. Niemand neemt dat ding serieus.

Zeg meestal Netherlands, en dat ik 'Dutch' ben, dus, maar volgens mij verschilt dat stiekem ook wel eens aan de dag/context/etc. Maak me er niet zo druk om. Antwoord is bijna altijd "Oh! Amsterdam is so cool! I've been there a couple of times!", dus voor de meesten bestaat Nederland toch vooral uit A'dam, terwijl ik de keren dat ik er zelf geweest ben op 1 hand kan tellen

Gewoon omdat de officiele benamingen zijn.

Ik zeg altijd "The Netherlands" en "Dutch" (en ook zo in andere talen), gelukkig weten ze hier in ieder geval het verschil tussen Deutsch en Dutch
