De les van de vorige depressie is dat bezuinigen op overheidsuitgaven de zaak zwaar erger maakt.
In de US is het probleem dat bedrijven zoals GM, instituten zijn geworden die verlieslijdende autobedrijven zoals SAAB gingen kopen en overeind hielden.
Naast de toch al zware lasten die GM had uit het verleden/.

Ook de US overheid die ontsnappingclausules maakten voor GM waardoor ze zware bakken konden blijven bouwen.i, terwijl de overheid een corrigerende rol heeft en niet een slaaf van het grote geld moet zijn
