FOUR TOP TITLE CONTENDERS SPEAK OUT
Lewis Hamilton has brushed aside Fernando Alonso's promise to help Ferrari's Felipe Massa win the 2008 Formula 1 title, saying it was none of his business what other drivers did.
Hamilton will be crowned champion at the Chinese GP this weekend if he scores six points more than Massa, his closest rival, in the penultimate race of the season.
Alonso was upstaged by Hamilton when they were team mates in 2007 and since his return to Renault has done little to hide his animosity for McLaren and the man who could replace him as F1's youngest champion.
Hamilton said of Alonso's comments: "I don't really have an opinion. I focus on my job and the most important thing this weekend is to be competitive and try to earn some points.
"What the others do is none of my business."
Hamilton looked isolated on a news conference platform with Alonso, Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen and the third remaining title contender Robert Kubica, who criticised Hamilton's driving last week.
Alonso has won the previous two races and was in ebullient form. He was in no mood to backtrack on his comments about favouring Massa despite Hamilton's presence.
He said: "You cannot misunderstand what I said. My best relationship, for example, is with Robert. I would like to see him win the championship but I know that it will be difficult to make up 12 points.
"I will drive my own race, but after the race you would prefer some drivers to win or some teams to win compared to others. You can take whatever from my comments but it's very simple."
BMW driver Kubica said the main purpose of his comments about Hamilton's tactics at Monza had been to highlight dangerous overtaking moves.
He said: "I didn't comment on Lewis, I just said these kinds of moves are pretty dangerous, especially in the wet."
A subdued Hamilton said he'd recovered from a disappointing race in Japan last week, where a poor start from pole and a collision with Massa left him without any points.
He qualified in pole position at Shanghai in 2007 but failed to score any points after skidding off.
He said: "I feel as strong here as I always do, we still have two races and I still have a great opportunity to make the next step.
"The team and I have recollected ourselves and are moving forward. We'll see what happens, we'll give it our best shot." - Reuters

Goed plan!quote:Raikkonen, Alonso back ex-drivers as stewards
October 16, 2008 - By Nick Mulvenney
Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso, who have won the last three Formula 1 World titles between them, have backed the idea of recruiting ex-drivers to help with stewarding.
Penalties handed out at the 2008 Japanese were the latest in a string of decisions that have led to calls for an overhaul of officiating.
Renault's Alonso and Ferrari's Raikkonen, speaking at a news conference on Thursday before this weekend's Chinese GP, said the most important improvement would be consistent punishments for the same infringements. - Reuters
Ik wil niet lullig doen, maar voor een zelfde actie kreeg Hamilton ook niet veel meer dan een drive-through hoor!quote:Op zaterdag 18 oktober 2008 09:43 schreef Googolplexian het volgende:

En:quote:Penalty for Webber, Coulthard blocked
It has been a good qualifying session for Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber at Shanghai today. The Aussie placed his car 6th on tomorrow's grid but due to an engine change, he will get a ten-place grid penalty. Team mate David Coulthard didn't make it into Q2 as he was blocked by BMW's Nick Heidfeld.
Mark Webber, Position 6th
(Mark will drop ten places on the grid tomorrow, due to an engine change)
"Unfortunately a penalty for an engine change drops you five rows back - and it's difficult enough anyway these days with the field being so tight. In Fuji I would have had a chance to make up some places during the race, as it's easier to pass there, but there are some really quick corners here making it more difficult. Let's hope for some rain tomorrow."
David Coulthard, Position 16th
(David will move up a place tomorrow, due to Mark's engine change penalty)
"I'm extremely disappointed with what Nick Heidfeld did at the end of Q1 on the last out lap. All the cars were bunching up on the second to last corner, as they jostled for position, but Nick suddenly passed me on the inside into the last corner, just as I was about to start my flying lap. It was very unlikely he was going to do a better lap on prime tyres and he was on the dirty side of the track, so he wouldn't have done a faster lap by squeezing through the inside at that point - and he came in
before the end of that lap anyway! He would have known he was in the top ten already, so for me it was very un-sportsman like behaviour, as all he did was screw up my last flying lap - there wasn't any intention of him doing a quicker time."
Christian Horner: "Despite losing track time with an engine failure in this morning's practice, Mark did a good job to finish P6 in today's qualifying session. Unfortunately he takes a grid penalty tomorrow due to the engine failure and subsequent engine change, but it was a good lap from him. David had the pace to go through to Q2, but an incident with Heidfeld cost him time on his last run and, with the circuit improving, unfortunately he just missed the cut."
Fabrice Lom, Renault, Principal Engineer, Track Support: "We are very sorry for Mark and apologise to him for the engine failure. It's a shame as he had good pace today and easily got through in to Q3 to finish P6. David was blocked during Q1, so wasn't able to show his real pace today. It wasn't a good day, I hope Sunday will be better."

18 October 2008
David Coulthard was not amused after Saturday's qualifying session. The Scot was held up by Nick Heidfeld going into his final flying lap in order to try and improve his fastest lap time. Coulthard didn't manage to improve his lap time and so he missed out on Q2.
After the qualifying Coulthard didn't make a secret of it he wasn't happy with Heidfeld. Coulthard said: "I'm extremely disappointed with what Nick Heidfeld did at the end of Q1 on the last out lap. All the cars were bunching up on the second to last corner, as they jostled for position, but Nick suddenly passed me on the inside into the last corner, just as I was about to start my flying lap.
