Konami heeft in een persbericht aangekondigd dat Metal Gear Solid 4 ook op de Xbox 360 zal worden uitgebracht! MGS4 verschijnt wereldwijd in het tweede kwartaal van 2008 voor de PS3. De Xbox 360 versie zal een half jaar later verschijnen en moet voor Kerst in de winkels liggen.

De Xbox 360 versie van MGS4 wordt door een apart team ontwikkeld en wordt niet geleid door Hideo Kojima. De game zal qua inhoud gelijk zijn aan de PS3 versie, maar moet het doen met iets simpelere physics en graphics. Volgens Konami zullen de versies zo goed als gelijk zijn aan elkaar, al zal de Xbox 360 versie wel op meerdere discs worden uitgebracht. Lees hieronder het volledige persbericht!

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is set in a battle-scarred future where huge conglomerates fight for supremacy using armies of hand-picked mercenaries. This devastated world is seen through the battle-weary eyes of an older Solid Snake who has been charged with infiltrating a number of key locations across the globe, including the Middle East and South America. Unlike the PlayStation 3 version of Metal Gear Solid 4, the Xbox 360 version will not contain the Kojima Productions' Metal Gear Online, which remains exclusive for the PS3 version. Komani is proud to announce that Metal Gear Solid 4 will be released on multi-DVD format and have identical content as the PS3 version. However, the PS3 remains the lead platform for Metal Gear Solid 4 and the Xbox 360 version is in development at an internal Konami studio.

Dat is dus goed nieuws voor Xbox 360 bezitters! Ondanks dat Konami beweert dat beide versies identiek zullen zijn, denk ik dat MGS4 op de PS3 uiteindelijk toch de ultieme versie wordt. De Xbox 360 versie wordt daarbij niet ontwikkeld door Hideo Kojima zelf. Daarnaast moet de Xbox 360 versie het zonder Metal Gear Online doen, waardoor deze versie net iets minder interessant wordt.

Ik ben benieuwd waarom Konami heeft besloten om toch een Xbox 360 versie uit te brengen. Wellicht dat Microsoft een deal heeft kunnen sluiten met Konami. We zullen de MGS4 PS3 en Xbox 360 releases in ieder geval nauwlettend in de gaten houden!
