Lekker arrogant bezig om te verwachten dat iedereen Engels spreekt. Als je eens je schuurtje uitkomt en gaat reizen kom je er misschien achter dat misschien maar 10% van Europa (U.K uitgesloten) Engels spreekt. Vaak kom je verder met Frans of Duits.

I agree with you. Though, here in The Netherlands it isn't that bad when it comes to people who don't speak English. Just compare Dutch people with, for example, French people. I noticed that French people have quite a lot of trouble when it comes to speaking English. The people there do get English lessons if they go to school, but they don't seem to care about speaking English that much. Are they too proud of there own language, maybe!?

Speaking English is one thing, but using it in a natural manner and in a way which suits your own personality is something different altogether. A lot of non-native English speakers steal their expressions from popular media. That's why TS says "goddamn" so often, in a way which does not suit his personality at all.
Of course it's quite logical that non-native speakers use this knowledge to improve their speech. But when such a person starts going around boasting their proficiency of the English language, it's kind of sad.

First of all, I don't speak kut Engels... I do however write proper English... And those farts who think it's cool to jot down some real pretentious English, like the stuff undergrads learn at school are just pa-the-tic... Man, no one writes, let alone talks like that...
Nou, laten we het daar maar bij houden, als native speaker vond ik het Engels hier nogal vreemd, onnatuurlijk, gekunsteld en voornamelijk bedoeld om over te brengen hoe goed men het wel niet kan...

I didn't even mention the difference between American English and British English... color / colour / etc.. and then those Americans living in states like Texas/Wyoming and such speaking so odd, it's almost impossible to understand...
