Since Sunday evening there has been a build-up of forces in the contested zone as hundreds of regular Afghan soldiers from the 203rd “Thunder” Corps, who had been fighting the Taleban, have deployed to the area to reinforce the beleaguered border police, bringing with them heavy artillery sent up from Kabul. “We can’t wait any more,” Brigadier Sanaoull Haq, a staff officer in the corps, said. “Now if anything further happens we will reply in kind.”

Volgens goudexpert Robert McEwen kan de goudprijs stijgen naar minstens 2000 dollar in 2010.

Verdere stijging
Dit zou een aanzienlijke stijging betekenen. Momenteel wordt circa 660 dollar per ounce betaald. De afgelopen jaren is de goudprijs al flink opgelopen.

Fortuin
McEwen verdiende een fortuin met de ontwikkeling van de Red Lake goudmijn van Goldcorp. Deze Canadese goudmijn is de rijkste van Noord-Amerika. Volgens McEwen wordt er steeds minder goud gevonden en kost het meer om het te delven. McEwen zegt in een interview met Bloomberg TV te verwachten dat Chinezen meer goud zullen kopen.
