Dank je. Ik werd aangestoken met het rockvirus door mijn vader, die helemaal gek is van rocklegendes, waaronder dus Bruce. Zodoende leerde ik hem ook waarderen en ben dus al ruim twintig jaar fan. Ik sta nog als jongetje van zes op de foto, met een koptelefoon op mijn hoofd en een elpee van the Boss in mijn handjes. Twee keer naar een concert geweest, Gelredome '99 en de Kuip 2003. Of je neemt The Essential, natuurlijk. Fijne driedubbelaar met eigenlijk wel zo'n beetje alles wat je moet weten als beginner. Vind je bepaalde nummers daarvan leuk, kun je altijd nog de bijbehorende albums gaan luisteren.

Er is trouwens een poll geweest op het Springsteenforum, voor zijn beste nummer, gekozen door de fans. 242 nummers zijn gewikt en gewogen, en vandaag is de finale. Daarin staan, ik zou bijna zeggen, uiteraard:

* Thunder Road
* Jungleland
Ik kan geen keuze maken tussen Thunder Road en Jungleland. Het zijn allebei zulke geweldige nummers... wie helpt me? Argumenten voor, tegen, kom maar op.

Wat een slechte biased Born To Run top 3 zeg
Zoals jullie weten vind ik Born To Run echt een boutnummer..Die andere twee zijn wel top,maar als er een verkiezing is van allerbeste nummer vind ik het echt onbegrijpelijk dat een the River ontbreekt...
Verder kan ik mij er op zich wel in vinden. Het enige album met echte klassiekers is toch wel Born To Run...De andere albums (op river na) hebben niet van die echte uitschieters, en als ik nu nadenk zijn mijn favoriete nummers waarschijnlijk nummers die anderen niet hebben

Ik begrijp het uiteraard ook wel. Vind het wel frappant dat het precies één heel album is waar de beste 3 uitkomen (zó goed vindt men dat album dus), terwijl dat album bij mij niet eens hoog komt

Ik denk dat dat ook wel eens zou kunnen komen door de gemiddelde leeftijd van de stemmers op het forum. De meesten, zeg ik even heel generaliserend, ZIJN van die Born to run generatie, zaten in diezelfde tijd met dezelfde gevoelens die Bruce zo treffend (want dat moet je toegeven, de verhalen die worden verteld op dat album zijn prachtig) weergeeft. Verder denk ik dat iedereen, ook jongeren, zich kan identificeren met dat album. Hebben we niet allemaal al eens het gevoel gehad dat de wereld ons niet begreep? Geweldig nummer, Jungleland. Maar om Thunder Road kan ik echt niet heen. BTR rockt natuurlijk beter, maar ik beleef Thunder Road keer op keer veel intenser dan die andere twee nummers. Als mensen mij vragen wat ze van Springsteen moeten luisteren kom ik eigenlijk heel standaard bij BITUSA uit. Prima album, paar herkenbare nummers voor de nieuwelingen en een paar leuke rockers. Mochten ze die fase overleefd hebben dan geef ik ze meestal The River mee. Als ze daarna echt interesse in Bruce tonen, dan kan het echte werk altijd nog beluisterd worden.
Ik kan er maar moeilijk aan wennen, maar voor de Seeger-fans onder ons is hier de nieuwe CD te beluisteren:

The fact that Bruce Springsteen has been recording a new album at Southern Tracks Studios with members of The E Street Band is one of the worst kept secrets in rock. The man has been sighted all over town and, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, recently stopped by local record shop and a bookstore to pick up some music related items, including a CD by the Dropkick Murphys, a Jimi Hendrix DVD and a Joe Strummer biography. The article says he was buying them for his kids, but we think that after The Seeger Sessions and Devils and Dust he is trying to brush up on his rock & roll for his new album. There is nothing resembling an official word at this point, but all signs point to the album coming out around September with a worldwide E Street Band tour to follow. With Max Weinberg heading to 11:30 with Conan O Brian in 2009 and Clarence Clemons five years away from the big seven-oh this could very well be the final tour with the full band.

With over twice as many songs recorded for the new album(many of them in multiple versions) than for The Rising, the month is spent mixing the tracks and figuring out which ones make the final album. As has been the case for all Bruce band records except for The Rising, a unifying theme has to be found after the recording process is 100 percent complete.
July/August07 - Patti Scialfa releases a new album and goes out on a short tour(with Nils among others). Bruce is left doing the full-time daddy thing, holding down the fort and hauling the kids here and there. As he is doing that, he approves the final artwork for the album and other such details. In August(though possibly early September) a lead track is sent to radio and the internet.
September07 - Rehearsals begin for a new E Street tour...almost certainly the final one ever. Late in the month the new album is released.
Fall07-Winter08 - The tour begins, concentrating mostly(maybe fully) on North America.
Spring08 - The tour moves to Europe for entended dates.
Summer08 - As appears to the rule now, summer is spent mostly at home with the kids once school ends. They remain priority number one.
Fall08 - The tour resumes in the States, with possible two stopping points, the first just before Thanksgiving and the holidays. Three big factors to be considered(1) The demand level for tickets (2) the physical health of the aging band (3) the wants and needs of three teenaged(at least by then) children. If all three of those considerations are positive, then the tour would resume after the holidays. In November a remastered CD of Darkness on the Edge of Town drops, along with a DVD of a full concert, both modeled after the Born to Run project from three years before. Because the Darkness outtakes are considered much stronger than those for BTR, there may be either an expanded CD version or tracks added as a seperate bonus feature. The concert getting the DVD treatment: Phoenix 7-08-78.
January-April09 - If the final tour continues, it would have to end before May09, when Max Weinberg moves to Los Angelos and The Tonight Show full-time(and for all-time). Whenever it ends the finale will most likely be at the Meadowlands, Philly, or MSG.

Fall07-Winter08 - The tour begins, concentrating mostly(maybe fully) on North America.
Spring08 - The tour moves to Europe for entended dates.
Summer08 - As appears to the rule now, summer is spent mostly at home with the kids once school ends. They remain priority number one.
Fall08 - The tour resumes in the States, with possible two stopping points, the first just before Thanksgiving and the holidays. Three big factors to be considered(1) The demand level for tickets (2) the physical health of the aging band (3) the wants and needs of three teenaged(at least by then) children. If all three of those considerations are positive, then the tour would resume after the holidays. In November a remastered CD of Darkness on the Edge of Town drops, along with a DVD of a full concert, both modeled after the Born to Run project from three years before. Because the Darkness outtakes are considered much stronger than those for BTR, there may be either an expanded CD version or tracks added as a seperate bonus feature. The concert getting the DVD treatment: Phoenix 7-08-78.
January-April09 - If the final tour continues, it would have to end before May09, when Max Weinberg moves to Los Angelos and The Tonight Show full-time(and for all-time). Whenever it ends the finale will most likely be at the Meadowlands, Philly, or MSG.

About as certain as we can get at this point: The new album has been recorded with members of the ESB already having contributed. Additional tracks are being recorded with and without the ESB. As can best be described at this point is the album is a cross between TOL and The Rising with some "rock" songs and a number of songs pared down. Having trouble describing the sound, but a lot of production is being used wth the versions already recorded. Different versions of each song are being recorded (with and without members of the ESB) and the final versions of about half the album have not been settled on. It was agreed to go ahead with announcing a new recording since it is fully anticipated the final recording phases will go very quickly. The good news is a flurry of recording will be ongoing over the next few weeks with August to be the month of final production, etc. Although a given, the album will have a least 10 songs with a goal of about 13 being projected.
What is interesting is the most definitive and positive news relates to the tour, which will be the last for the entire ESB. Rehearsals for the tour are once again scheduled for AP around Labor Day. Look for the tour to kick off on or about 10/02/2007 in New York with a quick swing around the country until the end of November. All of the major cities, to include LA, DC, Philly, Boston, Chicago, etc. will be covered. The month of December will include a quick tour of Europe, about 10 shows or so. January and part of February look to be time off with a full world tour to begin in full effect during the Spring of 2008 (Feb/March) with outdoor arena shows scheduled for the summer of 2008. The U.S., Canada, Europe, and Australia, will all be on the schedule. Bottom line is that we are now entering the final stages in preparation for the final ESB world tour. Stay tuned.

There's a local (Canadian) arts magazine that I read today, which had an in-depth interview with Brendan Obrien. According to Obrien, the new record will be released as "Bruce Springsteen And The E Street Band." No mention as to a specific title for the album.
The album apparently takes a cue from Jackson Browne's Running On Empty. The songs were recorded mostly in one take with Bruce AND the band. Forget all the talk of the different members only coming in to do their specific parts. Also, they recorded material for it everywhere- Obrien specifically mentions Bruce recording with Clarence and Steve backstage during the Devils tour. Apparently they recorded a lot of material at Bruce's house with Landau overseeing the sessions.
Musically, Obrien compared it to Blonde on Blonde. Three song titles were given when Obrien described some of the songs as resembling the Stones' Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street material, as well as resembling some early Faces records. The titles he named were "The Blind Spot," "Taxi Cab Alley," and "One Dead Ringer."
Nothing else was mentioned in regards to the new album. Obrien did talk about Bruce some more and their working relationship. Nothing interesting.

She informed me a release announcing the album and acknowledgement of a tour will be released on Monday (though when pressed, she admitted it could be Tuesday, but they are totally preparing for Monday, Aug. 13th.) The announcement will list all song titles, musicians on the album, basic tour structure and some cities. NO TICKETS WILL GO ON SALE NEXT WEEK. I post this so no one here has to constantly refresh their Shore Fire Media homepage during the next 48 hours.
(To those wondering how I have a contact over there: I work in network sports tv and am constantly getting free CDs, invitations to record premiere parties and other goodies from record companies and publicists as I use commercially-issued music in my work. A few CDs or invites are nothing to a company if I elect to use their music on a Super Bowl or Final Four tease or throughout an entire network show, especially if it is new music. Being a Springsteen fan, I have had a contact over at Shore Fire for years and was even invited to the ultra-private show at the Bottom Line on May 6th, 1992 when Bruce premiered songs from both Human Touch and Lucky Town for the first time in front of a public audience -- mostly Columbia execs, staff and invited peeps.)

Ik raad nieuwe fans altijd Greatest Hits of The Essential aan. Staat van alles wat op. Moest ik echt een album aanraden, dan werd het BITUSA en/of The River, de enige albums die ik nog wel eens in zijn geheel opzet.
Bedankt voor alle tips Ben er nog niet aan toegekomen, maar ga zeker even zo'n greatest hits/essential halen, dat zal in ieder geval een goed orientatiepunt zijn Daarnaast waarschijnlijk 1 van z'n eerdere albums, ben altijd wel van de chronologie
Ik zou voor de the essential (limited edition) 3 CD versie gaan, heb je gelijk wat meer "onbekendere" nummers, die ene greatest hits CD is dan toch wel duidelijk de mindere keuze naar mijn idee. En je zou voor de ervaring nog het live 75-85 album er bij kunnen doen..

Springsteen album, tour details expected Thursday

Details of a new Bruce Springsteen album will be announced Thursday morning, and presumably there will be some information about a fall tour as well.
Word from the Springsteen world is that fans can expect an album that reunites him with the E Street Band following his most recent projects with the Sessions Band exploring vintage American folk and blues songs and his more introspective "Devils & Dust" solo album in 2005. If the participation of the E Streeters turns out to be true, it will be their first album together since 2002's "The Rising."
The Springsteen-centric website Backstreets.com also has been fielding reports of a fall tour for several weeks, and reliable reports suggest he may play at least a couple of shows in October at the Inglewood Forum, the site of some of his high watermark shows of the '70s and '80s. But it also would place fans of this champion of the blue-collar worker in the dilemma of whether to cross a picket line to see him. Workers from IATSE Local 33, the stage employees' union, have been involved in a labor dispute with the Forum's operators since mid-2006.

It's official. Springsteen's first album with the E Street Band since 2002's The Rising drops in less than seven weeks, and it's called Magic. In case that title makes you, like us, think of Doug Henning... click the Mark Seliger photo at right for a first peek at Bruce's 2007 look. No rainbows or unicorns to be found. (And that guitar... that's magic.)
According to manager Jon Landau, quoted in today's press release from Shore Fire Media, this one's a rocker: "Magic is a high energy rock CD. It's light on its feet, incredibly well played by Bruce and the members of the E Street Band, and, as always, has plenty to say. It's also immensely entertaining. Magic is the third collaboration between Bruce and Brendan O'Brien and is a culmination of their very productive creative relationship."
O'Brien produced and mixed the album at his home base in Atlanta, Southern Tracks Recording Studio.
