Het is de doodsteek voor je competitie als je zulke grote teams terug gaat zetten. Die wetenschap mag misschien niet meespelen, maar dat zal uiteindelijk wel gebeuren denk ik.

Of je maakt schoon schip, of je accepteert dat grotere clubs dus feitelijk boven de wet staat. In het laatste geval is het ook de doodsteek voor je competitie.

De Advocaat van Juve heeft al aangegeven te kunnen leven met degradatie naar de Serie B en puntenaftrek. Is niet zo diep als de Serie C1 maar is al heel wat. Ik verwacht ook dat Juve minimaal deze straf zal krijgen.

Degradatie naar de C1 zou overigens een inkomstendaling van 79% betekenen, zo is berekend.

Wanneer de Italiaanse justitie niet op tijd zijn rechtspraak voltooit, is de kans aanwezig dat de UEFA geen enkele inschrijving zal accepteren voor de Europese toernooien.
Die kans is eerlijk gezegd klein, maar op initiatief van voorzitter Gervais Martel van de Franse club Lens is er wel een andere mogelijkheid ontstaan. Martel is van mening dat zijn club (als vierde geeindigd in de Franse competitie) recht heeft om de voorronde van de Champions League te spelen. "Het lijkt me onmogelijk dat de UEFA de inschrijving van Chievo Verona en Palermo zomaar zal accepteren. Uit ethisch oogpunt bekeken is dat zelfs niet juist, want die clubs hebben helemaal geen prestatie geleverd waarmee een plaats in de Champions League gerechtvaardigd kan worden."
Martel doelt erop dat de UEFA Italië ook moet straffen voor het schandaal en zodoende een paar plaatsen moet laten zakken op de zogenaamde landenranglijst. Zodoende kunnen Duitsland en Frankrijk in de Champions League een vierde ploeg inschrijven en Nederland een derde.

Welke club die derde plaats mag innemen, is natuurlijk een bizar vraagstuk. Wordt dat de nummer twee van het afgelopen seizoen (AZ) of de verliezend finalist van de play-offs (FC Groningen). Het lijkt waarschijnlijk dat de UEFA in dat geval alleen de inschrijving van AZ zal accepteren.
Martel weet zich bij zijn actie gesteund door de Franse bond, die de kwestie bij de eerstvolgende vergadering van de UEFA zal aankaarten. Italië zou als dit senario wordt gevolgd in de Champions League alleen vertegenwoordigd worden door Inter en eventueel (via de voorronde) door AS Roma. bron: voetbalonline.nl

Italy's justice minister suggested an amnesty may be suitable for clubs named in an alleged match-fixing scandal so as not to punish players from the squad who have reached Sunday's World Cup final against France.

"The government cannot get involved in this issue," Justice Minister Clemente Mastella told the Corriere della Sera newspaper on Friday.

"But I do think the majority of fans want an amnesty. As a fan, let me say this: is it fair that (Fabio) Cannavaro and (Alessandro) Del Piero and so many others should play in the third division after everything they have done?".

Cannavaro and Del Piero are two of several Italy players on the books of Juventus.

The Serie A champions face possible relegation to the third division for what a prosecutor says was the club's role in the scandal.

The club denies wrong-doing but one of their lawyers has suggested relegation to the second division might be apt punishment if Juventus are found guilty by a sports tribunal.

There have been several calls for an amnesty for Juventus and the other three clubs caught up in the scandal, AC Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina, given the efforts of Italy's players at the World Cup in Germany.

But earlier this week Sports Minister Giovanna Melandri said the proposal was "idiocy".

For the majority of the players involved in Sunday's World Cup final it will be the crowning moment of their career. But from Monday many of them face an uncertain future. Next week the results of the Italian match-fixing scandal are expected - and for 16 of the players in Berlin that could spell trouble. In the biggest sporting trial in the nation's history, the Italian Football Federation's prosecutor has called for Juventus, AC Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina to be thrown out of Serie A. Juventus coach Fabio Capello has already jumped ship for Real Madrid and their keeper Gianluigi Buffon admitted he is likely to be on his way.

If the punishments are enforced it could see some of the biggest names in football on the move - including 13 of the Italian squad and three of France's stars. Giancarlo Galavotti of Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport said: "There will definitely be players leaving. Capello has already taken advantage of contract clauses. If the players find that their club has been relegated through no responsibility of their own it is only right. It may be that some players have a clause that frees them in case of relegation. The players are only in their full right to move to other clubs - so the clubs will have to sell. Being in Serie B, albeit for one season or two, does not bring the same financial benefits of being in Serie A. So it does not make a lot of sense to keep the big stars although that would be the way to try to secure a quick return."

Italian football agent Andrea D'Amico, who represents Gennaro Gattuso of AC Milan and Juventus' Alessandro del Piero, told BBC Sport that the punishments will determine who goes and who stays. It is very hard to say because it depends on club-to-club what happens," he said. If Milan get relegated to Serie B it may be a problem to try to keep all the players. Or maybe some of them wish to stay and some wish to go. I think for Gattuso it is not a problem. He has a long contract with the club but it is hard to say - in three or four days maybe everything will change. We must wait and see."

Spare a thought for 38-year-old Milan star Paolo Maldini, who could face the choice of spending the final season of his career in Serie B or leave his only club after 22 years.

But where will the other players go?

It seems there is not enough room, never mind money, in Italy for all of them. Galavotti added: "We only have Inter Milan in Italy who can buy players and they could only afford maybe a couple of players. The others will have to consider what is more convenient for them - whether to try and get back in Serie A quickly or go abroad."

Premiership big-spenders like Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal, along with La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid, are sure to be monitoring the situation, ready to swoop like vultures to pick up some easy prey. Galavotti said: "Capello going to Real Madrid will probably be the one who decides to bring Zambrotta or Cannavaro with him. But players such as Cannavaro, Nesta and Zambrotta will also see clubs like Chelsea, who have the desire to win the Champions League next season, as ideal material."

Has underlined his position as the world's best keeper - as well as the most expensive - in Germany by conceding just once in six games. Has already been linked with Barcelona.

Alessandro Nesta (30) AC Milan and Italy
Italy's number 13 has been unlucky to miss out on the latter stages of the finals after picking up an injury against the Czech Republic. When fit he is a fixture of the Italian backline and one of the toughest defenders in world football.

Fabio Cannavaro (32) Juventus and Italy
Has been the outstanding defender at the World Cup finals and, even at 32, there will be no shortage of takers if he is put on the market. Would certainly solve some of Real Madrid's defensive problems.

Gianluca Zambrotta (29) Juventus and Italy
Another star of Italy's World Cup campaign, Zambrotta is equally capable of performing on either wing in defence or attack. With his best years ahead of him he is unlikely to spend them in Serie C.

Lilian Thuram (34) Juventus and France
From a marauding full-back in his heyday, Thuram is more often than not used as a calm and collected centre-half these days. But he has shown in Germany he still has the ability to perform at the highest level.

MIDFIELDERS
Gennaro Gattuso (28) AC Milan and Italy

Andrea Pirlo (27) AC Milan and Italy
The artist in the Italian side has enjoyed a superb World Cup. A creator and scorer of goals, there would be no shortage of suitors if Milan were to suffer relegation.

Kaka (24) AC Milan and Brazil
One of the few Brazilians to emerge from the World Cup with some credit. The Milan playmaker and one-time Chelsea target pushed Ronaldinho to the sidelines to emerge as their key man.

Patrick Vieira (30) Juventus and France
Has answered questions about his fading engine with some driving displays at the heart of a France side who are rolling back the years.

Often fails to live up to his billing as one of the world's top strikers and the Swede was off-form and injured for the duration of the finals. But the 24-year-old's ability and goal record means there are plenty of admirers out there.
