Leuk pittoresk stadje trouwens.
quote:Striker Michael Bridges has ended his relatively short stay at Brunton Park by sealing a deadline day move to Hull City after Carlisle United accepted a £350,000 offer that was tabled this afternoon.
The 28 year old made 31 appearances for the Cumbrians since joining the club, initially on loan, in November 2005. The then Bristol City player was looking to kick start his career by moving back up North, and did just that with a strike ratio of 15 goals in just 25 games last season. Bridges has been used more in a play making role in an attacking front three in this campaign and has been the subject of much speculation in recent months.
Fred Story told us, "we really did want to keep him, but Michael was determined that he wanted to join a Championship club, and we cannot hold him back from realising that ambition. We are not a selling Club, and whilst money is always welcome, we would have much rather have kept the player. However, you can't stand in a player's way and I am happy to thank Michael for his contribution to Carlisle United, and wish him well for the future. We do have a small squad now, but we are in a strong position to bring players in when the loan window opens, and we have committed players and coaches here at the Club, so I am confident that we can move on."
Neil McDonald told us, "it is disappointing, but in the end he was determined to go to a Championship Club, and we only want players here who want to play for this football Club. We will be looking to bring players in when the emergency loan window opens next Thursday, and that is ongoing, but we aren't just going to go out there and get anybody. It has to be the best that we can get and players who will improve the squad that we have."

Torquay have signed 25-year-old Carlisle midfielder Adam Murray. The former Derby player, who requested a transfer during pre-season and has not featured for Neil McDonald's team this season, cost the Gulls £10,000.
"I must admit I'm surprised that the chairman has stuck his neck out financially," Torquay boss Ian Atkins told the club's website. But Adam will make a big difference to us. He has played at a high level and the quality will show on the pitch."
The midfielder has been at Brunton Park since March 2005 and has also had spells with Mansfield, Kidderminster, Notts County and Burton Albion.

Gisteren bij de wedstrijd van Engeland (ofzoiets, ik was aan het zappen..) zag ik ineens - toen ze inzoomden op een actie aan de zijlijn - een Engelse vlag met daarop 'Carlisle United'.
quote:Mention Carlisle United and three episodes in the club's recent history are likely to spring to mind.
The first is the tenure of former chairman Michael Knighton. He claimed the Cumbrians would one day win the European Cup before revealing both he and his wife had close encounters with a UFO.
The second is the injury-time winner scored by goalkeeper Jimmy Glass against Plymouth that saved the club from relegation to the Conference, in the 1998-1999 season.
The third, arguably, is Carlisle's recent promotion to League One, under the guidance of former boss Paul Simpson.
The latter was a tremendous achievement considering the Brunton Park side had only just regained their League status the previous season.
quote:Midfielder Paul Thirlwell has joined Carlisle United today on a 93 day loan that will see him play for Carlisle until the middle of December.
The 27 year old, who joined Derby County in August last year, has made 23 appearances for the Rams since his move from Sheffield United.
He initially started his career at Sunderland, making 77 first team appearances, and enjoyed a loan spell with Swindon prior to signing for the Blades in the summer of 2004.
Neil McDonald told us, "this is a player who has played at a decent level for a number of years and he will be an excellent addition to our squad. We are looking forward to working with him and we're sure that this will be a good move, both for him and for Carlisle United." (CUFC)
