They continued doing work for tha Alkaholiks and other artists before releasing their full-length Soundpieces: Da Antidote six years later. The album earned solid reviews but went largely unnoticed. Madlib did not, however. After hooking up with Los Angeles DJ Peanut Butter Wolf, Madlib did a lot of production for Wolf's Stones Throw label. In 1999 the label released Quasimoto's astonishing The Unseen LP. Doubling as himself and his alter ego Quasimoto, Madlib handled vocals and production duties on the album, a huge critical success.

Not resting on his laurels, Madlib followed The Unseen a year later with his Yesterday's New Quintet project. Madlib played all the instruments himself, infusing his exploration of jazz with both style and substance.

While continuing on with a massive release schedule and work load, Madlib completed a remix/reinterpretation project for Blue Note, a collaboration with Jay Dee under the Jaylib alias, a collaboration with MF Doom, produced 1/2 of fellow Lootpack member Wildchild's solo record and many other remix and producer tasks all in 2003.

With each year Madlib has continued to expand his abilities beyond the core hip hop that he is known for.

Ik ken die bluenote remixes wel Ben benieuwd naar die Funky Side of Life
The Unseen loopt net binnen , klinkt wel OK, een beetje oud misschien.

Je moet echt even gaan zitten voor The Unseen, briljant plaat.

Wat is instrumentaal? Het is meer 'knip en plak' werk, en er wordt wel nauwelijks in gerapt.

Ik vind z'n wazige Beatkondukta plaatjes en bijvoorbeeld de Earthsound EP ook fantastisch. Enorm wazige mixen, wazige samples, ongelovelijk hoe het soms in elkaar steekt. En de mix die je op de stonesthrowsite kan downloaden is ook super, dan draait hij jazzplaatjes. Er is nog zo'n mix in omloop en die heet Madlib On Worldwide.

Beetje het Shades Of Blue idee, maar dan met lekkere funky orgeltjes. Klinkt allemaal fantastisch.

De nieuwe Beat Konducta (Madlib - Beat Konducta Vol. 5 [Dil Cosby Suite]) is briljant.

New Madvillain Album in the Works
In 2004, When DOOM (then MF Doom) first teamed up with producer Madlib for a full-length album, the resulting spaced-out rap masterwork ended up as Pitchfork's #25 album of the decade. So it's a big deal that DOOM and Madlib have finally, finally reactivated their Madvillain project. At the moment, the two are hard at work on the mysterious follow-up to Madvillainy.

The new Madvillain album has no release date right now, but it'll eventually come out on Stones Throw. According to Stones Throw's publicist, Madlib will once again produce every track, and TV on the Radio production mastermind Dave Sitek is tentatively involved with the project. Mos Def also contributes to the album.

Last week on East Village Radio's Fat Beats Live show, DJ J.Rocc played a few work-in-progress snippets of tracks that could end up on the album. And they sound every bit as woozily free-associative as Madvillain classics like "Accordion" or "America's Most Blunted". As previously reported, Madvillain will perform at the We the People Festival on November 21 in Los Angeles.
