January 4, 2006 - Apple is preparing to make a huge splash at the National Association of Broadcasters trade show this year, Think Secret has learned. Preliminary information from sources suggests that Apple will take advantage of the April show to demonstrate Final Cut Pro 6 to the public for the first time. Even more significant, Apple will use the stage to unveil Final Cut Extreme, an extremely high-end version of its video editing software designed to grab marketshare away from rival Avid.


Sources note that Apple's Final Cut Extreme announcement will coincide with Red's upcoming 4K digital cinema camera, a revolutionary piece of equipment that is said will be priced upwards of $200,000. Pricing for Final Cut Extreme is said to be similarly up-market, approaching $10,000 a seat, and will require the latest hardware from Apple.

System requirement rumblings point to a Quad G5 with dual Nvidia QuadroFX graphics cards to work with 2K or 4K media. Rumblings have also suggested Apple will release an even larger Cinema Display than the company's current flagship 30-inch display, one capable of supporting all 11+ million pixels a 4K camera (4520x2540 resolution) will be able to capture. 10GBase-T Ethernet may also make its debut in a future Quad G5 configuration optimized for the new software, sources said, assuming the standard is ratified in time.

Also expected to make its debut is an upgraded Xserve RAID unit, currently dubbed Xserve RAID Extreme, which will pack a dual InfiniBand link as opposed to the current fibre channel, while supporting more drives than the standard Xserve RAID. Word on the development of a more robust Xserve RAID has circulated for months.

Specific features of the new video editing software are less known at this point, although native editing of 5.1 surround sound in both Final Cut Pro 6 and the new version of Soundtrack Pro is said to be nearing completion. Final Cut Pro 6 will also support 1080/24p and 1080/30p DVCPROHD, sources said. While Apple has officially thrown its support behind Blu-ray, the new version of DVD Studio Pro should support burning to both Blu-ray discs and HD-DVD.

New Apple Patent for iPod Wireless Transmission

According to Macsimum News, Apple has filed a patent for a new wireless VHF/FM/RDS transmitter that will be added to the iPod. What does this mean? Basically, you will be able to send not only your tunes wireless to your RDS compatible radio, but the ID3 tags as well.Macsimum points out that the Hitachi HTD-K185 is currently equipped with RDS technology as a point of example. We should probably expect to see the RDS compatible radios in Apple?s recently announced iPod intergrated car partners such as Acura, Volkswagen, and Audi by 2006. Macsimum also points out the opportunity for voice activated management/control of the iPod in 2006 (patent filed under Voice-activated media management system for the iPod).

In case you are baffled to what RDS is, then let?s do a little explanation. Again this is according to the guys over at Macsimum, but I think they do a good job of explaining.

_{The basic concept behind RDS is that each FM radio station is given a set bandwidth which can be used for its broadcasting. However, most stations do not use all of their bandwidth, and the spare bandwidth is usually wasted. Therefore, RDS uses this wasted bandwidth for transmitting a low bit rate FM radio based data signal by being modulated into the radio station signal and transmitted along side it. This arrangement is very cost effective since the existing transmitting towers can be used with very little modification.}

My remaining concern is similar to the issues found in the iTrips (FM Modulators). Often the radio broadcasts bleed into the FM modulators signal as they piggy backs on a frequency. In LA this is a constant problem due to the large number of stations. Furthermore, my vehicles antenna for the radio is at the rear of the vehicle, making it more challenging for an FM modulator to work. Lastly, polarized windows also pose a problem for FM modulators as they don't allow the signal out. I don?t understand if this RDS technology will be impacted by these factors, but please, speak up and speak loud if you have experience with

Je kunt wel Cyberduck gebruiken en daarnaast een finder venster open zetten en gewoon op en neer slepen. Weliswaar twee vensters, maar je draait toch niets op volledig scherm.

Van firewire stappen ze nooit meer af hoor. De iPod wel, maar in de filmwereld blijft het dus moet Apple het wel houden. Firewire is natuurlijk ook het kindje van Apple.
