quote:Cisse dismisses Marseille rumours
I feel good here - I don't know why people want to spoil it
Djibril Cisse
Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse has strongly denied reports he is going to sign for Marseille in the January transfer window.
The player's brother and former agent, Hamed, was quoted as saying a deal with the French club was "90% done".
But Cisse told BBC Radio Merseyside: "I'm in Liverpool for three more seasons and I'm not going to leave.
"The stuff this morning is rubbish, I'm here to stay. It hurt me because it's my own family who talk rubbish."
France international Cisse, 24, called a news conference on Friday to refute the reports of his imminent departure.
"I just wanted the stuff to be clear and to be honest with the fans, who are very important to me," he said.
"Don't believe what was in the papers this morning. I feel good here. We have a really good team and performances at the moment.
"I don't know why people want to spoil it. It's boring but I'm strong enough to deal with it and switch off my mind and be focussed on the game."
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez said Marseille had not made an offer for Cisse and that he would not let the France international leave even if they had.
"Marseille are always talking, but they don't talk with us - there is no news," he said.
"Djibril has shown the kind of attitude I like in players. He is a very important player for us. We don't want to sell Djibril."
Cisse has scored 12 goals for Liverpool this season, including eight in the Champions League.

Reports in Denmark suggest Liverpool are close to completing a deal for Brondby defender Daniel Agger.
State broadcasters DR say Agger's agent Per Steffensen was in Liverpool on Wednesday and the centre-back has now agreed personal terms with the European champions, who have only to settle on a fee with Brondby - expected to be around £5.5million.
The 24-year-old has been a long-term target for Rafael Benitez, who has been seeking cover for Jamie Carragher and Sami Hyypia.
Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry told DR: "He is a central defender and we need at least one defender so we have a list of possibles.
"His name is on it - but that's all I want to say at this moment in time."

The FA Cup Third Round Proper
Kenilworth Road
Saturday 7 January 2006
Winning clubs receive £40,000
Liverpool came from behind to overcome a spirited Luton performance in a magnificent eight-goal FA Cup thriller at Kenilworth Road.
The Reds were on the rack for much of the first hour of the game, but ended up in the hat for the next round thanks to braces from Xabi Alonso and substitute Florent Sinama Pongolle.
Luton were lively from the start and were not in awe of the European Champions, but it was the Reds who opened the scoring on 16 minutes with a patient move finished by their talisman, Steven Gerrard.
Djibril Cisse attacked down the right and fed the ball across to Peter Crouch. But the England striker couldn't work an opening with his back to goal and returned it wide to the Frenchmen. He laid the ball on for Gerrard to whip in from the edge of the box curling over Marlon Beresford and into the net.
The Hatters, though, didn't drop their heads and began to cause problems to Liverpool's defence, so rarely breached this season. Steve Howard came close shooting wide from Rowan Vine's cross as Rafa Benitez's Premiership side started to feel the pressure.
Howard then gave the home crowd something to cheer. Following a neat move in Liverpool territory, Luton cut open their opponents before Howard took the ball around Scott Carson and poked home into the net.
If that wasn't enough, Luton kept pushing and could have two more when first a Heikkinen header was cleared from the line by Steve Finnan and then Carson was forced to save from a powerful Vine shot.
At the other end, Crouch and Cisse weren't getting a sniff and rarely troubled Luton's back line, while every 50-50 challenge was won by a white shirt.
Just before the break, Luton made their hard work count when a ball into the feet of Steve Robinson saw the skilful forward turn Jamie Carragher inside the box and he fired low into the bottom corner of the net to give Mike Newell's Championship outfit a 2-1 lead.
But Luton almost handed Liverpool a gift of an equaliser right after the change around. A mistake in midfield allowed Kewell through on goal as he closed in on Beresford he squared to Gerrard and, though the ball looked too far in front of the skipper, a trip by Luton's Paul Underwood sent Gerrard to the floor and Mark Clattenburg awarded Liverpool a penalty.
Cisse stepped up but his crisp shot was close to Beresford and the veteran stopper made a fine save holding the strike firmly.
It was Liverpool's turn to hand out some late Christmas gifts and when Vine dispossessed Sami Hyypia inside the Reds' half on 53 minutes, he was clean through with just Carson to beat.
The England Under-21 man was forced to make an attempt to halt Vine but caught the trailing foot of the striker on the edge of the box and Clattenburg again pointed to the spot and Kevin Nicholls dispatched with confidence.
Liverpool now had to raise their game if they wanted to avoid a second successive Third Round exit to Championship opposition. Benitez, who looked angry at his side's lack of grit, made an offensive change bringing Frenchman Florent Sinama Pongolle on for Momo Sissoko.
With his first real chance just after the hour mark following a through ball from Gerrard, he put Liverpool back in the game, driving under Beresford, to set up an exciting final 30 minutes.
Luton weren't knocked out of their stride and still looked to extend their lead, but Liverpool now appeared like they'd found the itch that they hadn't been able to scratch.
Xabi Alonso provided this fantastic FA Cup tie with one of the goals of the season to draw the Reds level, cracking a 35-yard shot over the head of Beresford and sneaking under the bar.
Relief for Liverpool, agony for Luton and it was soon to get worse as the Reds added a fourth from Pongolle's header to restore their lead lost in the 31st minute.
With the match running away from Luton, a corner encouraged Beresford forward, dreaming of Cup headlines. But as the move broke down, Liverpool, through Alonso, carried the ball forward and from deep inside his own half, the Spanish midfielder took a pot shot.
Players and fans alike could only watch on as the ball rolled into the Luton goal to seal the win and provide a glorious finish to an amazing 90 minutes of football.

quote:Daniel Agger was born in Denmark on 12th November 1984.
Daniel is the fifth Dane to sign for Liverpool following Jan Molby, Torben Piechnik, Michael Stensgaard and Jorgen Nielsen.
Agger is a Danish international and impressed when he marked Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney during Denmark's 4-1 win over England in August 2005.
He has four caps and scored one goal for Denmark.
Agger made his international debut on June 2nd 2005 against Finland when he marked former Red Jari Litmanen. Sami Hyypia also played.
He started his career in Demark with Rosenhoj before moving to Brondby.
Agger made his Brondby debut at the age of 19 in a league match against OB Odense.
While his best position is centre half, Agger has a sweet left foot and can also play left back.
Former Anfield Great Dane Jan Molby rates Agger highly and says: "Daniel Agger is a good player in his twenties. He has only played first class football in Denmark for twelve months. He's a good talent and I rate him. He's very calm, left-footed, good in the air and a good reader of the game."
Daniel was honoured in Denmark last year when he was awarded the 'find of the year' in all sports in Denmark for 2005.

quote:27 January: GOD IS BACK by Gerry
I can’t believe it, I just can’t fucking believe it, Robbie’s back, Robbie‘s fucking back. I heard the rumours just like everyone else but they were just like the same rumours we heard last year and just like then I didn’t dare believe that they could be true. So as I sat in my car on my way home from work in the normal Friday evening traffic jam and the news came over the radio, I just screamed and screamed like a madman. I just didn’t see it coming and even now a couple of hours later it still seems a little unreal but it is real, GOD IS BACK.
With all due respect to Michael Owen, this is bigger news then the return of the Saint, this is the return of God. Fowler was forced out by Houllier and never wanted to leave the club and he has made no secret of that. In his recent biography he said that he had unfinished business at Liverpool and one day would love to have the chance to return and now somehow its happened and he has returned to his spiritual home.
I don’t know a single Liverpool fan in the world that doesn’t love Robbie. I’ve been watching football since the early 70’s and can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is the greatest natural finisher I have ever seen bar none. His goal-scoring record for us of 171 goals in 330 games makes pretty good reading too. I heard some idiot on the radio saying that he was just a bit worried that with all the injuries Robbie has suffered in recent years, he might have lost a bit of pace but pace was never one of Fowler’s greatest assets to begin with. No, Fowlers two greatest assets are his predatory instinct and his finishing ability, in those departments he is second to none and fortunately they are two things that once you have, you never lose. But enough of me rabbiting on, Rafa summed it all up in his interview with the official site after the signing when he said,
"My idea is for Liverpool to take one step forward and I think Robbie can help us make that step.
"We have signed a player with so much passion for this football club and I think he will act as an example to every player here in how much he loves Liverpool.
"It is a boost for the team, a boost for the supporters and a boost for Robbie himself. I'm not sure I've ever seen a player quite so happy to be joining a club before."
"Robbie is a great finisher who can help us reach a new level. He hasn't been signed because he loves the club; he's been signed because he's one of the best goalscorers ever to play in the Premiership and he can score goals for us right now,"
"He's got a wealth of experience and he gives us more attacking options. He's a different kind of striker to what we have at the club and that is good for the team.
"People can talk about having a lot of money to buy players but we've just signed a player with a passion and a heart for this club that no amount of money can buy.
"We are close to a very high level right now but with Robbie we can go even higher."
Wise words from Rafa and a very wise move too, its only going to cost us Fowler‘s wages but if it comes off it could prove to be a masterstroke and one of our greatest signings of all time. If we can keep Fowler fit, he would form one hell of a partnership with Crouch and I have absolutely no doubt that if we create the chances there’s no better man then Robbie to put them away. I think this move will spell the end of the road for Cisse but to be honest, who cares?
I’m absolutely delighted to see Robbie back and I’m looking forward to seeing him back in the Red shirt again, can you imagine what the crowd will be like in his first game back at Anfield? Thank you Rafa for making this happen, thank you Stuart Pearce for not standing in his way and thank you GOD and welcome home, the place just hasn’t been the same without you.

Liverpool footballer Djibril Cisse has been cautioned by police after assaulting his pregnant wife. The 24-year-old striker, who married Jude, 30, in June 2005, was arrested at their home in Frodsham, Cheshire, on Thursday evening. He was taken to a police station and questioned before accepting a caution for common assault.
Cisse and his wife, who is originally from Anglesey, announced in October they were expecting their first child. A Cheshire Constabulary spokesman said: "As a result of police inquiries, a 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of section 39 assault. "The man was interviewed at a police station and cautioned in respect of the assault." Last June, French international Cisse accepted a caution for hitting a 15-year-old boy in London.
A Liverpool FC spokesman declined to comment.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has revealed he first thought about signing Robbie Fowler when the pair visited the same pub!
Benitez explained: "I first thought of the idea after the Chelsea game.
"Robbie was in a pub with us and we were talking about football. You could hear all the fans saying 'you should sign Robbie again'.
"I'm always thinking about my strikers. I have confidence in them but the idea was always in my mind.
"Then in the last week we had a meeting. I analysed Robbie and found out what he could give to us.
"Then I decided to sign him. He was talking with his heart. I could see the passion. It isn't normal to see a player with this passion. Usually, you speak with the agent and they talk about wages, how many years the deal's for . . .
"With Robbie it was so simple. It was a case of 'do you want to come?' And him just saying 'yes'.
"I think Robbie will bring a lot more than just goals. He will bring that passion and, hopefully, it will be contagious for the other players."
Fowler, likely to appear off the bench against Birmingham, added: "I think I'm proof that if you want something badly enough, you can get it - and no one wants it more than me. This feels so right. It feels so good."

Argentine club Banfield say defender Gabriel Paletta will travel to England at the weekend to open talks about a summer move to Liverpool.
