The Buick Riviera launched in 1963 then was GM's new luxury car. The Riviera was pitched against Ford's Thunderbird and with success. Production figures were higher than expected even though it was the second most expensive Buick on the price list with the Electra 225 Cabriolet beating it by $30. The Riviera not only did Buick good saleswise but also their image got a big boost by its success
