Intelligence on a possible threat of Russian sabotage action against Geilenkirchen NATO air base caused it to temporarily raise its security level last week, German press agency dpa reported Monday, citing German security sources.

A foreign intelligence service gave "serious indication" of preparatory actions for a likely Russian act of sabotage against the NATO base, possibly involving the use of drones, the German newspaper Tagesspiegel reported.

For most of Friday, the air base of the Western defense alliance in North Rhine-Westphalia instated the second-highest security level.

Upon receiving the information, all non-essential personnel were sent home to minimize the potential risk, but air traffic was not disrupted and continued to operate normally. Since there were no incidents at the air base, the security level was reduced to the previous level on Friday afternoon.

About 1,600 people work at the airfield, which stations special aircraft currently used primarily to monitor airspace in NATO’s eastern theater, a spokesperson for the defense alliance said. The base's radar is capable of locating and identifying other aircraft at a range of more than 400 kilometers.

The alert level rise follows a series of recent sabotage threats in Germany. Two weeks ago, the Geilenkirchen base and another military base near Cologne airport were temporarily sealed off as authorities investigated a possible water-supply sabotage. The Cologne-Wahn airbase is a major transportation hub for Ukrainian soldiers trained in Germany.

Earlier, in June, Russian saboteurs set fire to a metal factory belonging to the defense contractor Diehl in Berlin. According to Western security officials, the saboteurs’ goal was to disrupt shipments of critical weapons and ammunition to Ukraine.

Come Back Alive Foundation Equips Four Ukrainian Units to Counter Russian Drone

The Come Back Alive Foundation has provided four more units with equipment that will help them shoot down Russian drones.

The Foundation has stated that the units received transport, modernized FPV drones, and other equipment for their crews.

The equipment is being transferred as part of the ‘Dronefall’ project. Its goal is to shoot down a thousand Russian reconnaissance UAVs by upgraded FPV drones.

Marines, Special Operations Forces, and air defense units received this equipment.

“UAH 9,358,024 of your contributions made it possible to purchase 6 vehicles for the 38th Separate Marine Brigade, Special Operations Forces and Air Defense units,” the foundation stated.

The Russian Baltic Fleet has equipped the Sovetsk corvette with a Tor-M2KM anti-aircraft system module.

The warship was photographed in the port of Kronstadt.

The Sovetsk, as well as the first ship of the Mytishchi series, were developed as part of the original 22800 project and did not receive specialized anti-aircraft weapons. On these ships, air defense tasks were assigned to AK-630M artillery pieces.

A full-fledged anti-aircraft system was first installed on the Karakurt-class corvettes starting with the third ship in the series, integrating the ship’s version of the Pantsir-ME air defense system.

Probably, based on the experience of this war, in particular in the Black Sea scene, the Russian Navy decided to strengthen the capabilities of these ships and installed an autonomous combat module 9M331MKM of the Tor-M2KM complex on the aft superstructure.

It is not known whether the drone fell into Polish territory or left it. The military is currently searching for it.

Ukraine's budget deficit for 2025 will be $35 billion, but assistance from partners will cover roughly $20 billion, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said on Aug. 27.

As reported by Ukrinform, Russia launched at least 127 missiles and 109 Shahed combat drones on Ukraine on August 26.

According to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, 15 regions were affected by the attack. Damage to energy facilities was reported.

The idea behind this improvised defense is rooted in the belief, shared among some Russian troops, that everyday items like sneakers, Kevlar inserts, or even plastic bottles can offer protection against the deadly power of landmines.

But the test revealed the harsh reality—when the mine exploded, the plastic bottle provided no protection whatsoever. The explosion would likely cause the soldier to lose a limb, with the added danger of plastic fragments turning into additional shrapnel.

Russian Soldiers Missing Equipment
This desperate measure show the extreme conditions Russian soldiers face, often lacking adequate protective gear. The use of such makeshift solutions is inspired by the creativity born out of necessity.

The soldier's experiment is a clear indication of the severe limitations and risks faced by infantrymen who are trying to survive with minimal resources.

In contrast, modern military technology offers much more reliable protection. Armored vehicles, for example, are designed with V-shaped hulls that deflect the blast energy away from the vehicle, significantly increasing the chances of survival for those inside.

Unfortunately, for individual soldiers, such advanced protection is not an option. They must rely on traditional methods like metal detectors, probing the ground with knives, and specialized demining equipment.
