quote:UAE Banks Block Russian Transactions for Chinese Electronics, Russian Media Reports
Banks in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been rejecting transactions from Russian companies seeking electronic components and consumer electronics from China since early August, according to pro-Kremlin outlet Kommersant on August 28.
The reported reason for this is the risk of secondary sanctions, the outlet claimed.
Kommersant's sources, who remain unnamed, indicate that Russian firms had been using UAE-based entities to transfer funds to China for goods to be shipped directly to Russia. Now, transactions for products that do not pass through the Gulf country are being blocked, the outlet stated.
According to these sources, the restrictions were imposed at the initiative of China.
Last week, the US introduced a new set of sanctions targeting Chinese and Russian companies due to their support for Moscow's aggression. In response, Chinese institutions have begun reducing their business dealings with Russia to avoid or mitigate the impact of these trade restrictions.
Notably, several major Chinese banks have started blocking transactions for electronics due to concerns over secondary sanctions. Most recently, in June, the Russian branch of the Chinese state-run Bank of China ceased accepting payments from Russian banks.
Western countries have also reportedly increased pressure on the UAE to prevent Russian entities from circumventing sanctions. The UAE is believed to be a key conduit for sanctioned dual-use goods, such as electronics, being sent to Russia.
Throughout Russia's full-scale war, the UAE has maintained economic and cultural ties with Russia but has also forged new trade agreements with Ukraine.

The sole surviving veteran of World War II in the Kursk region’s Korenevsky district was not among the residents evacuated by the Kursk regional authorities during Ukraine’s ongoing incursion into Russian territory, independent Russian media outlet 7ื7 reported on Wednesday.

Klavdiya Tursina-Voitova, 98, who was awarded several military decorations for her service as a medical orderly during the Battle of Stalingrad, appeared to have been overlooked by the Kursk authorities and the district Veterans Council during the evacuation of the village of Kornevo, according to local resident Alina Belogurova.
“Everyone forgot about the only surviving World War II veteran in the region, and the old lady was left completely alone, with nobody willing to save her or even consider her of any use,” Belogurova wrote in a public post on Russian social media platform VK that was later made private.
According to Belogurova, she reported Tursina-Voitova to volunteers, one of whom came and carried Klavdiya to safety.
In its report, 7x7 noted that Tursina-Voitova was well known locally, with her name being mentioned 17 times on the district administration’s website and Kornevo village head Roman Pugachev being photographed with her in 2021.

Ukraine's border guard agency is not aware of the allegedly new tactical symbol on Belarusian equipment
Russian resources have begun to spread images of allegedly Belarusian equipment being moved to the Ukrainian border, marked with a "B" tactical sign.
Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, told LIGA.net that the situation at the border has not changed.
On August 27, Russian resources began circulating reports that Belarus was allegedly moving equipment to the Ukrainian border and marking it with a "B" tactical sign. Such signs are typically used to indicate affiliation with a specific military grouping.
These images were initially spread on Russian resources before appearing in the Ukrainian segment of Telegram:

National security concerns — including potential links to Russia — drove the Spanish government's decision to veto Hungarian consortium Ganz-Mแvag Europe's attempt to buy Spanish train manufacturer Talgo, Spanish newspaper El Paํs reported Wednesday.
The Spanish government's unprecedented decision to veto a takeover bid made by a group that is partially owned by the Hungarian government on national security grounds raises questions about the future of the Spanish company and Hungary's reputation in international trade.

Lol, het Kremlin heeft geen behoefte om op deze beschuldiging te reageren. Maar Peskov doet het toch.quote:Kremlin denies sending conscripts to Russia’s Kursk region as Ukrainian incursion continues
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has described media reports of conscripts being forced to sign contracts with the Defence Ministry and sent to Russia’s southwestern Kursk region where a Ukrainian incursion is now well into its fourth week, as an “absolute distortion of reality”.
Peskov told reporters at a press briefing on Wednesday that the Kremlin felt no need to comment on such reports.
Hundreds of Russian conscripts are reported to have gone missing or to have been captured by the Armed Forces in Ukraine (AFU) in August amid Ukraine’s surprise incursion into Russian territory, and over 100 have been identified by Russian independent media outlet IStories.
Analysing video evidence shared on social media, The Washington Post reported on Sunday that Ukrainian forces had captured more than 240 Russian soldiers since the start of the AFU offensive. “Some of the captured troops identify themselves in the videos as conscripts”, The Washington Post said, adding that conscripts were “not generally expected to face battle”.
Reports of Russian Airborne Forces conscripts being deployed to the Kursk region also appeared on Russian social media platform VK on Sunday, though they were promptly deleted by the platform for being “false information”, Russian independent media outlet 7x7 wrote on Wednesday.
The news flies in the face of the repeated assurances given by Vladimir Putin since 2022 that young recruits doing their mandatory military service would not be sent to the front lines.

Standing amid ruins in east Ukraine, Ruslan Mokrytskyi held a combat knife and concentrated on cutting onions without crying. As trivial as it seems on the front line, it is still not easy.
The moustachioed 32-year-old in military fatigues instructed his comrade to get the right shot of him with his phone.
The angle matters. Mokrytskyi is one of Ukraine's soldier-influencers keeping up spirits in times of war and has 131,600 followers on TikTok.
"Take a close-up of my fingers," he told his friend, a cameraman for the day. "Lower the frame."
The shot showed his shrapnel-scarred hands as he peeled the onions carefully.
Mokrytskyi's social media profile describes his life as a part-time celebrity chef and soldier in a nutshell: "A cook from the hell of war."
The day AFP met him, he revisited an Italian classic, pasta all'arrabbiata.
Just 24 hours earlier, he was a drone pilot in what he called the "hell of Toretsk" -- defending the eastern city that Russia has been trying to capture for months.
