This tale was shared on the Telegram channel Aviatorshchina, a Russian airline-industry forum.

And it was not a onetime event.

In late July, a shortage of pilots led to the cancellation of 68 Aeroflot flights out of Sheremetyevo, according to Aviatorshchina. Several other flights were postponed.

RFE/RL confirmed these accounts of unprecedented shortages of pilots and crews with three Russian airline-industry sources, who, like other interviewed sources, requested anonymity to discuss a sensitive topic.

"At the peak of the season, when there's enormous demand and people are ready to spend money on tickets, we couldn't handle it," commented a Russian Airbus A320 copilot.

"This is surprising and revealing," the copilot continued. "It's not the first summer (travel peak), and we always managed in the past."

But the situation changed on February 24, 2022, with Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Two and a half years later, hampered by sanctions that have increased costs and reduced revenues, Aeroflot cannot always find the planes, pilots, and crew it needs to operate efficiently, an investigation by RFE/RL's Russian Service found.

Zelensky positively assessed the operation's progress in Kursk Oblast, adding: "The operation is complex, it is important that it is going according to our plan."

The president said that he could not disclose all the goals and results of the operation, but one of them was to replenish stocks of Russian prisoners of war who can be exchanged for Ukrainian POWs in Russia.

The estimates of Russian captives, taken by Ukraine during the Kursk Oblast, ranging from several hundred to 2,000. Ukraine declined to provide a full number of Russian captives taken during the ongoing operation following the Kyiv Independent's request.

Following a decade-long battle, a substantial part of Crimean artifacts is now on display in Kyiv until the occupied peninsula is liberated, officials say.

After a lengthy legal struggle, the return of the so-called "Scythian gold" last year was, for Ukrainians, an important cultural milestone amid the ongoing decade-long war with Russia.

The artifacts originated from four Crimean museums—Bakhchysarai, Kerch, Simferopol, and Sevastopol—and were exhibited at the Allard Pierson Museum in Amsterdam in February 2014, when Russian troops moved in to occupy the peninsula and its museums.

The artifacts were stuck in legal limbo, with now-occupied museums demanding the return of the items, whereas Ukraine attempted to return its cultural heritage home.

After nearly ten years, a collection of 565 artifacts, or 2,111 items, was finally returned to Ukrainian-controlled territory.

The items shown in the Treasury of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine have been digitized, a practice used by many Ukrainian museums to preserve the cultural heritage amid Russia's near-daily missile attacks.

"This (the return) is not only a museum matter but a matter for the entire country. It is important for future steps. This exhibition is about the past, but it is actually a bridge to the future," said archaeologist Yurii Polidovych, a leading researcher at the museum.
