De Amerikaanse VN-gezant heeft de Veiligheidsraad van de Verenigde Naties voorgehouden dat een "deal in zicht is" over een bestand in de Gazastrook. Ambassadeur Linda Thomas-Greenfield zei dat Israël al heeft ingestemd met het voorstel dat nu op tafel ligt. Ze vroeg landen in de raad om Hamas onder druk te zetten om ook in te stemmen.
De onderhandelingen over zo'n bestand slepen zich al maanden voort.
Hamas heeft zich positief uitgelaten over een voorstel dat de Amerikaanse president Joe Biden in mei deed en dat ook is goedgekeurd door de VN-Veiligheidsraad, maar vindt volgens een ingewijde dat Israël "op het laatste moment" weer nieuwe eisen op tafel heeft gelegd.
Internationale bemiddelaars presenteerden deze maand een aangepast voorstel.
Bronnen van persbureau Reuters zeggen dat er nog onenigheid is over de toekomstige aanwezigheid van het Israëlische leger in Gaza en de voorwaarden waaronder Palestijnse gevangenen worden vrijgelaten.
Hamas zou bovendien vrezen dat meer eisen volgen als het concessies doet.

Als Hezbollah echt wil escaleren maken ze er een grondoorlog van. Die paar rakketjes is vooralsnog niet heel veel waard en volgens het boekje.
