At a Torah study session at the prime minister's residence in Jerusalem in October 2017, Benjamin Netanyahu surprised participants with a dire warning for Israel's future. "Our existence cannot be taken for granted," he said. "The Hasmonean state lasted for about 80 years, and we have to surpass it."

He promised to do everything possible to defend Israel so that it can make it to 100 years. But as usual, he did the opposite of what he promised. Instead of protecting Israel, he acted to weaken and dismantle it, to the point where, for the first time, its future is in doubt.

The bleak results of Netanyahu's dereliction of duty are evident on all fronts. The 132 hostages are facing indescribable suffering in Hamas' tunnels. Communities near the Gaza and Lebanon borders were abandoned, and no one knows if and when Israelis will return to them. The vital shipping route to Eilat is blocked. Foreign airlines have stopped flying to and from Israel. Israel's credit rating has dropped, and inflation and the budget deficit are about to soar. Iran felt sufficiently confident to fire hundreds of missiles and exploding drones at Israel, which couldn't defend itself on its own. Israel stands accused of genocide, and Netanyahu is a candidate for an international arrest warrant. U.S. President Joe Biden halted some arms shipments to the military, and his administration said it's "reasonable to assess" that Israel violated international law in Gaza. Settlers, with the government's encouragement, have embarked on a campaign of destruction and revenge against Palestinians in the West Bank.

BEIRUT, Aug 16 (Reuters) - The powerful Iranian-backed Lebanese armed group Hezbollah published footage on Friday that appeared to show its fighters driving trucks with rocket launchers through a maze of tunnels to an apparent underground launch site. The newest video depicts fighters riding motorcycles, working on laptops and driving around a dozen trucks through the rocky tunnels.

BUENOS AIRES, Aug 16 (Reuters) - Argentina's Federal Police dismantled what it said was a terrorist cell planning attacks on the Jewish community in the city of Mendoza, the National Security Ministry said in a statement on Friday, describing the group as an "Islamist terrorist organization."

Argentina has Latin America's largest Jewish population. A 1994 attack on a Jewish community center killed 85 people in what remains the deadliest such incident in the South American nation's history. An attack against the Israeli embassy in 1992 killed 22 people.
