In March 2023, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for Putin on allegations of war crimes over the forced deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia following Moscow's invasion in early 2022.
Juan Ramon de la Fuente, tapped to be Sheinbaum's foreign minister, said it was "standard protocol" to invite the leaders of every country that Mexico shares diplomatic relations with to the inauguration, including both Russia and Ukraine.
Sheinbaum, set to be Mexico's first female president, won a historic victory in Mexico's general election on June 2 and is set to begin her six-year term in October.
Putin and Zelensky were among the world leaders to offer her congratulations.

The Russian city of Lipetsk was attacked by drones last night, July 9. Air defense forces were operating, informs Lipetsk governor Igor Artamonov.

Later, a threat of drone attacks on both the city of Lipetsk and the region was announced.
By 03:14, the governor complained of a "massive drone attack" and reported that air defense systems were in operation.
"Attention! Lipetsk has suffered a massive UAV attack. Air defense systems are working," he wrote on his Telegram.
Meanwhile, a video allegedly showing the aerial attack appeared online. It was filmed in Lipetsk.
According to the Telegram channel Mash, there were "3 to 10" explosions and flashes in the sky over Lipetsk.
Russian state media traditionally claim that the air defense forces "repelled the attack."
Later, the local governor stated that there was a "detonation of explosive objects far from civilian buildings," and emergency services were working on the site.
According to him, as a result of the UAV fall, an "energy infrastructure facility was damaged," and there were "interruptions in power supply."
"Specialists have started recovery work. The threat of UAV attacks remains. Air defense systems and suppression measures are in operation," wrote the Lipetsk governor.
Additionally, Russian media report a fire at a military airfield in the Lipetsk region following a series of explosions due to the drone attack.

Overall, Ukroboronprom sold military products worth $2.2 billion in 2023 (compared to $1.3 billion in 2022).
For this indicator, Ukroboronprom took the 49th place in the Top 100 Defense Companies 2024 ranking, which is created annually by the influential global website and magazine, Defense News. By comparison, Ukroboronprom was ranked 65th there in 2022.
Ukroboronprom State Concern, whose legal successor is Ukrainian Defense Industry JSC from June 2023, has been included in the Top 100 Defense Companies rankings since 2015. The company’s previous best result was the 62nd place in 2017.
A reminder that, on July 9, 2024, Ukrainian Defense Industry JSC opened its first foreign representative office in Washington, the United States.

Oekraine was al aan het verdedigen, en verloor langzaam grond. Al brachten ze Rusland wel zware verliezen toe. Maar het werkte gewoon niet optimaal. Dus ze moesten iets anders doen.quote:

Ik denk niet dat ze deze troepen en materieel van andere plekken van het front gehaald hebben, dus die is er niet mee verzwakt, niet op een manier die veel problemen zal opleveren, Natuurlijk hadden ze het front er mee kunnen versterken, maar ook dat was niet optimaal geweest, want dan blijven zij verdedigen.
Dit is een prima manier om Rusland te verzwakken over het gehele front. Zij hebben nu al 1000m2 Russisch grondgebied in bezit (is grove schatting natuurlijk), en hebben nauwelijks tegenstand gehad. Natuurlijk hebben zij wel verliezen geleden maar ook bij deze aanval is het Rusland die meer verloren heeft, daar lijkt het in elk geval erg op.
En ook moet Putin zich nu achter zijn oren krabben en beslissen of zij het gehele noordelijke front gaan verdedigen. Zodat zoiets niet meer kan gebeuren. Maar dan moeten ze eerst Oekrane weer terug dringen, en ook nog eens voordat zij zich in kunnen graven. Want als Oekrane dit weet te doen dan zal het terugwinnen van dit gebied erg kostbaar voor Rusland kunnen worden.
Het is gewoon een meesterlijke zet van Oekrane. En als zij dan ook nog eens de nucleaire powerplant weten te bereiken dan is dat prima.
En dan zijn er natuurlijk ook nog alle gevangen genomen Russische soldaten en materieel. Ik ga al snel van zo'n 300-500 soldaten uit. Al is dat een schatting natuurlijk.

Maar een meesterlijke zet van Oekrane? Dat zou alleen zo zijn, als Oekrane deze aanval plaatst, omdat anders de Russen de oblast Soemi zouden binnenvallen. Ik hoorde iemand op Youtube uitleggen, dat de Russen al maanden bezig waren om de mijnen in dit grensgebied op te ruimen voor een eventuele aanval. Vandaar dat de Oekraners ook mijnenvrij zo'n groot stuk konden oprukken.
