Duntsova, a journalist and local councillor from the city of Rzhev in Russia’s western Tver region, burst onto the national stage in November when she announced her intention to run in March’s presidential election on an anti-war platform.

However, Russia’s Central Election Commission barred her from running in December, citing “mistakes” in her candidacy application. A month later, she was briefly detained by police after a meeting at which she announced her intention to form a new anti-war political party, Dawn.

Duntsova said that adding her to the “foreign agents” list was the “government’s way of dealing with an inconvenient politician”, but that the label would not prevent her and her associates from “building the Dawn party” and would not affect its members “in any way”.

Individuals and organisations deemed “foreign agents” by the Russian government are obliged to identify themselves as such in all social media posts and other publications, and are also subject to stringent financial requirements. In May, Vladimir Putin signed into law a bill banning “foreign agents” from running for office at any level.

A Russian-American journalist working for Radio Free Europe/ Radio Liberty had her pre-trial detention extended by a Russian court for a further two months on Friday.

Alsu Kurmasheva, a Russian-born mother of two based in Prague, has been in detention in her native Tatarstan region of Russia since October 18, 2023, for failing to register as a ‘foreign agent’. The crime she is charged with carries a penalty of up to five years in prison.

She had been briefly detained prior to that in June of last year while attempting to fly out of the country after visiting her mother. She was first found guilty of failing to declare a U.S. passport, which is mandatory under Russian law.

Russian news agency Tatar-Inform has reported that she also stands accused of gathering military information and of disseminating disinformation about the Russian armed forces.

Kurmasheva was the second journalist with links to the U.S to be detained by Russia following the February 2022 invasion of Ukraine. The other was The Wall Street Journal’s Evan Gershkowich, who is being held on espionage charges.

Kurmasheva’s husband, Pavel Butorin, posted on the X platform: "The action taken by a Russian court today in Kazan is a disgrace. This is a cruel and disturbing outcome. Alsu is a journalist, an American and a mom."

"This is a test of humanity and determination for the free world," Zelenskyy wrote in his post. "Either we pass it together, or the world will suffer further destabilization and chaos."

Russia's attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure have intensified since March, inflicting more permanent damage to the system — which could have knock-on effects on the EU's power supply.

According to the European Commission, Ukraine has the right to defend itself from armed aggression under international law, including striking military targets on Russian territory.

Het is inderdaad een blamage dat slechts 5 landen, waaronder Nederland en Tsjechië zelf natuurlijk, het geld hiervoor al hebben overgemaakt. En dat het zoveel moeite kost om de rest ook te financieren.

Als was er ook al langs gekomen dat zo'n 50 procent van al deze shells nog gerestaureerd/gerepareerd/geprepareerd moeten worden na aankoop. Wat dus zelfs nog meer tijd gaat kosten.

Kyiv Post sources in the Ukrainian Special Service (SBU) reported that, on the night of May 29-30, “the Russians lost one Nebo-SVU long-range radar detection system worth about $100 million,” which monitored a 380 kilometer section of the front.

According to the sources, it was hit by drones developed by SBU military counterintelligence. This radar system near Armyansk monitored a section of the front, ensuring the protection of enemy targets in Crimea. Additionally, ATACMS targeted the ferry crossing in Crimea, which Kremlin forces were using as a logistics facility.

Nee, het is vooral de politieke rompslomp die alles aan het vertragen is. De vele procedures en regels die aan dit soort dingen verbonden zijn in veel landen.

Net zoals het vrijmaken van geld in het budget van een land ook tijd en moeite kost. Daar budgetten vaak vastgesteld worden voor een jaar en er weinig speelruimte mogelijk is.

Gelukkig zijn wij hier redelijk flexibel in gebleken in de laatste 2 jaar. Al ben ik niet zo bekend met het defensiebudget/buitenlandse zaken budget/welk budget wij hier ook maar voor gebruiken.

Zaporizhzhia's Dnipro Hydroelectric Station, Ukraine's largest hydroelectric power plant, is in critical condition after Russian forces struck it overnight on June 1, Zaporizhzhia Oblast Governor Ivan Fedorov said on national television.

He said the power plant, known as the Dnipro Dam, halted electricity production.

“Currently, the Dnipro Hydroelectric Station is in a critical condition. We are not even talking about electricity generation,” Fedorov said.

Traffic across the Dnipro Dam was blocked following the Russian attack, “so residents are limited in traffic,” according to the official.

“Two bridges are being used for detour, with logistics in both directions. This will be the case for the weekend,” Fedorov said.

The regional governor did not provide other details of the damages caused.
