Het Eurovisie Songfestival
Heb een locatie in Winterthur geboekt voor de twee meest waarschijnlijke weken, dus zowel Zurich als St Gallen zijn gedekt. Mocht het toch een van die andere worden dan kun je ook in omliggende steden gaan zitten dus daar maak ik me niet zo'n zorgen om.
Het spannendste zal zijn of we uberhaupt mee gaan doen.

Kan nog wel eens lastig gaan worden eventueel met deelnemers. Sowieso gedoe rond Nederland. Tsjechië waar geruchten zijn dat die zich terugtrekken vanwege bezuinigingen. In San Marino, Azerbaijan, Letland zijn er vragen gesteld door conservatieve politici waarom ze in die landen nog mee doen met zoiets progressief als het songfestival. Ik vrees ook een beetje voor Moldavië. Dit jaar hadden ze ook problemen met het budget en moest Natalia Barbu alles uit eigen zak betalen (en die van haar rijke man). Maar misschien dat ze weer een terugkerende artiest uit de prullenbak halen. DoReDos of Aliona Moon ofzo.
God ik hoop het. Dat de halve finales zowat onnodig worden, maar is vast te mooi om waar te zijn. Denk dat zelfs Nederland gewoon weer braaf gaat doen wat de EBU wil.
Ik denk eerlijk gezegd ook niet dat er nog een nieuw land bij komt. De verzoeningspogingen met Turkije hebben niet gewerkt. Kazachstan gaat hem denk ik ook niet worden. Misschien Monaco maar die zie ik wel weer terugtrekken.

Het is wellicht een ietwat onpopulaire take op dit moment, maar ik hoop ondanks alles toch echt niet dat het hele songfestival op een hoop gaat. Wat moet ik dan in godsnaam doen met al m'n tijd?

In principe kan je met 14 landen en 3 directe qualifiers nog wel een avondvullende semi opzetten. Dan heb je dus 34 landen nodig, tegenover de 37 van dit jaar.quote:

Al is 10 uit 14 selecteren al wel enigszins door de ondergrens, maar de EBU zal het dan vast als een tijdelijk probleem bestempelen.

Ik blijf hoop houden dat men de delegatie op basis van hun eigen zo belangrijk gemaakte "zero tolerance"-beleid een jaar op de strafbank zet... niet eens vanwege het uitnutten van de politieke situatie, maar gewoon puur omdat het een walgelijk giftige delegatie is gebleken door het gedrag van meerdere personen.quote:

Eerder deze maand maakte VRT al bekend dat België aankomend jaar deel zal nemen aan het 69e Eurovisiesongfestival. Peter Van de Veire vertelde aan onze site dat Eurosong opnieuw ingezet zal worden als nationale voorronde. Deelnemende artiesten zijn nog niet bekend, maar heeft VRT al artiesten gepolst?
Tijdens ons interview in Malmö in de week van het afgelopen Songfestival gaf Peter ons de primeur: ‘Ik heb nieuws voor je. Wij gaan opnieuw een editie van Eurosong organiseren.’
Eurosong 2025
De Songfestivalcommentator vult aan: ‘We gaan een nieuwe Eurosong-formule brengen, die zal niet zo extreem verschillen van de vorige editie. Hoe, wat, met wie, dat is voor volgende maand.’
VRT heeft nooit gesproken over een interne selectie en er zijn geen bekende Vlaamse artiesten als Pommelien Thijs of Camille gevraagd om ons land te vertegenwoordigen zonder preselectie. Dit was een bewuste keuze: ‘Dit is een keuze die boven mijn hoofd wordt genomen, waar ik volledig achtersta.’
Hij vervolgt: ‘Of een Pommelien Thijs gaat meedoen in zo’n verhaal als Eurosong weet je niet. Je weet dat het een risico is dat als je dit organiseert er artiesten zijn die zeggen: een wedstrijd daar begin ik niet aan. Maar er zijn altijd mensen die zeggen: waarom niet. Dat zullen we zien.’
Worden artiesten gepolst?
Het lijkt er op dat de omroep wel al is begonnen met het voorzichtig polsen van artiesten. Zo blijkt uit ons gesprek met Tom Dice tijdens een Instagram-live. Tijdens de livestream gaf hij aan dat The Starlings in ieder geval niet zullen deelnemen, maar dat er wel gepolst is:
‘Wij zullen niet deelnemen aan Eurosong 2025. We zijn wel gepolst, in ruime zin, zoals er bij meerdere artiesten gepolst zal zijn. We schrijven ook zelf muziek en we staan er wel voor open om als schrijvers mee te werken aan een inzending.’

Een lang vertaald artikel van de Israëlische site Euromix. Het belangrijke gedeelte is het vetgedrukte, maar ter volledigheid heb ik het volledig geplaatst (en naar mijn mening is het prima genuanceerd geschreven). Het onafhankelijke onderzoek is dus blijkbaar al in volle gang, en de onderzoekers hebben al met de Israëlische vertegenwoordiging gesproken.

The EBU confirms: an investigation is underway!
At the same time, the EBU confirmed last night to the Dutch television network RTL that they had ordered an independent investigation regarding the events in Malmö during Eurovision 2024. The investigation was designed to check a number of events that occurred during and at the end of the competition, and to understand how this huge event can be improved for the future.
The EBU strives to improve competition and promote a safer working environment for all participants. "We strive to continuously improve our services and events. To this end, we asked an independent expert to examine Eurovision 2024 in Malmö, and share insights with the EBU's governing bodies to support the continuous improvement of this global event," the organization's statement said.
The EBU claims that the independent investigation is being carried out following complaints about unsafe working conditions and other disturbing incidents that happened during the competition. The Dutch AVROTROS said it was considering its response to the independent investigation, but as of now, Norway has already shared its experiences with the experts. According to the head of the Norwegian delegation, Stig Karlsen : "Norway is interested in participating in Eurovision 2025, but this depends on the steps taken by the EBU to improve the conditions of the competition, so that we do not have to deal with polarization, politics and security concerns."
Norway's complaint that they had to deal with polarization and illusory politics in light of the work that the Norwegian band, Gåte , made political statements on January 28 , even before the band was selected to compete in Eurovision. The lead singer of the band, Gunnhild Sundli , said in an interview : "The extreme and unbearable situation in Gaza must end as soon as possible. All of us in the band agree that Israel's participation is a bit problematic with this whole situation . " In January, the Euromix system contacted the head of the Norwegian delegation asking why they do not prohibit the contestants from voicing political opinions against another country competing in the competition, but no response was received. Assuming they are doing this in the name of freedom of expression, why should the Norwegian artists be allowed freedom of expression while the Israelis should be denied freedom of expression on the grounds that they create a security concern?
On behalf of the Israel Broadcasting Corporation it was reported: A conversation was held between the management of the Israel Broadcasting Corporation and an external examiner on behalf of the EBU. The conversation was conducted in a very good spirit and the corporate team expressed and presented to the examiner fully and transparently their experiences and feelings from the Eurovision 24 contest in Malmö. In the conversation, the Israeli team referred, among other things, to the behavior of some members of the delegations towards the Israeli delegation.
Threats and outbursts - behind the scenes of Eurovision
During Eurovision 2024, several incidents occurred that caused questions and complaints to be raised by the participants and the various delegations. One of the notable incidents was the disqualification of the representative of the Netherlands , Joost Klein, following an incident that occurred on May 9. Klein was fired after a confrontation with one of the photographers of the Eurovision production behind the scenes. The incident caused widespread controversy, and the Dutch station AVROTROS objected to the disqualification and expressed its protest against the technology to prevent booing that was used during the competition.
Complaints from other countries
Not only the Netherlands complained about the working conditions at Eurovision. Ireland's representative, Bambi Thug , reported on an incident that occurred on May 11 and caused her to miss the general rehearsal. According to him, the incident occurred as a result of the fact that a member of the Israeli delegation, Itai Bezaleli , photographed the members of the delegations behind the scenes in a sensitive situation . Another complaint was filed by Ireland regarding the comments made by the Israeli commentators, Akiva Novick and Assaf Lieberman , during the first semi-final broadcast on Khan 11, before the appearance of Bambi Thug.
The Spanish RTVE also filed a complaint about the restriction of press freedom during the event. Other delegations, including those from Switzerland and Portugal, raised issues regarding the unsafe environment in which the event took place this year. In addition, there were reports that several countries considered withdrawing from the competition before the finals , although these reports were rejected by Switzerland, Greece and Portugal.

Ik weet het niet. Ik denk eerlijk gezegd dat als MorrocanOil niet de hoofdsponsor was geweest, ze nog steeds niet Israël er uit hadden gekickt. We hebben allemaal het beeld hier dat de pro-Palestina kant zo luid is, maar Israël's televote resultaat liet toch wel zien hoe groot de pro-Israël kant ook kan zijn. Als ze Israël er daadwerkelijk hadden uitgekickt dan had het me niks verbaast dat het was uitgelopen op ''De EBU handelt antisemitisch'' uitspraken. Ik verwacht weinig van die Reference Group, helemaal omdat de AVROTROS ze ook nog heeft benoemd in hun statement en daar houden mensen met macht vaak niet zo van.
