Details: The European official added that the 26 EU member states could make key decisions without Hungary if it continues the blockade.

"And we are not afraid to say this to show that Hungary is Putin's Trojan horse. Because what they do is looking increasingly similar to Trojan horse behaviour," he emphasised.

Meanwhile, the official noted that if, for example, Slovakia starts to behave like Hungary, "then there will be 25 EU countries" [to make the decision].

"But the vast majority of member countries will still be on your side," the official said.

Russia's Interior Ministry has placed Kyrylo Budanov, the head of Ukraine's military intelligence agency (HUR), on a federal wanted list, Russian state media reported on Dec. 13.

Budanov was charged with "terrorism" by Russia's Investigative Committee in October, along with other top Ukrainian military officials. While the ministry's database says that Budanov is wanted under Russia's criminal code, it does not specifiy under which article he is being investigated.

The Russian government claims that Budanov is responsible for acts of terrorism due to HUR's role in Ukraine's strikes against the Crimean Bridge in Russian-occupied Crimea. While Russian forces target civilian areas in Ukraine every day, Moscow continues to characterize attacks on Russia's rear and in occupied Crimea as "terrorism."

Marianna Budanova, Budanov's wife, was reportedly poisoned in November 2023.

HUR has reported that Budanov himself has been targeted by Russian assassination attempts over 10 times.

Russia recently placed Ukrainian singer Jamala on a federal wanted list, alleging that she had spread "disinformation" about the Russian army on social media. Other individuals wanted by Russia include Meta Spokesperson Andy Stone and the heads of the International Criminal Court (ICC.)

UK Defense Ministry: Russian paratroopers suffer heavy losses in Kherson Oblast
Russia's newly-formed 104th Guards Airborne Division likely suffered "exceptionally heavy losses" during its combat debut near Kherson Oblast's village of Krynky, the U.K. Defense Ministry said in its Dec. 14 report.

In recent months, Ukrainian forces have reportedly made headway into occupied Kherson Oblast east of the Dnipro River. Krynky, a settlement some 35 kilometers east of Kherson, is said to be one of the main flashpoints in this sector of the front.

According to the U.K. Defense Ministry, the airborne formation joined Russia's Dnipro Group of Forces in an attempt to dislodge Ukrainian troops near the Krynky bridgehead.

During battles in early December, the unit reportedly suffered a high casualty rate and failed to achieve its objectives. British analysts linked this failure to a lack of proper artillery and air support, as well as insufficient experience of the troops.

Following the battle, Russian military bloggers called for the resignation of Colonel General Mikhail Teplinsky, the commander of the Dnipro Group of Forces.

Teplinsky, who also commands Russia's airborne troops, is considered among the more capable Russian commanders in the full-scale war against Ukraine, the U.K. Defense Ministry noted.

Ukraine has been conducting cross-river raids into the occupied part of Kherson Oblast east of the Dnipro River since February, with more intensified attacks reported in August.

The U.K. Defense Ministry said in July that Ukrainian forces are maintaining a beachhead near the Antonivsky Bridge.

In the fall, Russian military bloggers reported that the Ukrainian military established footholds on the occupied bank, and geolocated footage from Oct. 19 confirmed Ukrainian presence in Krynky.

Ukrainian marines reported in November that battles on Dnipro River's eastern bank in Kherson Oblast cost Russia almost 3,500 soldiers, including 1,200 killed.

DUSHANBE -- Some Tajik migrant workers in Russia say they were beaten by police and deported on fabricated criminal charges for refusing to fight in Ukraine.

The allegations come as Russian officials continue to target migrant workers from Central Asia in an effort to shore up Moscow's depleted troops in Ukraine, according to migrants and rights activists.

Mansur Hojiev, a 30-year-old Dushanbe resident, was deported from Russia in October just weeks after declining to sign a contract to join the Russian Army, the former migrant worker says.

Hojiev told RFE/RL his problems began when he approached migration officials in September to complete paperwork to obtain Russian citizenship.

"During my appointment at the migration office in the Sverdlovsk district in Perm Province on September 12, officials told me that I need to sign a contract to go to war [in Ukraine] or my citizenship application would be rejected," Hojiev said.

The holder of a valid residency permit, Hojiev said he didn't sign the contract and decided to continue living and working in Russia without trying to get citizenship.

But two weeks later Hojiev was summoned to the migration office where officials allegedly demanded that he sign a statement admitting to taking illegal drugs.

"Four masked men handcuffed me there, put a plastic bag over my head, and pushed me into a van like a cow," he claimed. "They drove me to some forest, [attaching wires] to my arms and legs and giving me electric shocks."

Hojiev told RFE/RL that under duress he signed a fabricated confession that he was caught by police while taking narcotics.

The next day, the Sverdlovsk district court convicted the Tajik migrant of illegal drug use based on a police report and his "confession." Hojiev was ordered to pay a fine before he was deported to Tajikistan.

RFE/RL repeatedly tried to contact police and court officials in Perm for comment but was unsuccessful.

Rights defenders and migrants in Russia have reported dozens of similar cases of Central Asian workers being pressured into signing contracts with the Russian Defense Ministry amid Moscow's efforts to bolster its troops in Ukraine.

In Russia, new rules have come into force today, obliging citizens who are prohibited from leaving the country to hand over their foreign passports. This also applies to conscripts.

According to resolution of the government, the passport must be deposited within five working days with the authorities that issued it (the Ministry of Internal Affairs or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), or to government organizations that have restricted their employee’s travel abroad.

The document also spells out the procedure for submitting a foreign passport to a consular office abroad, from where it will be forwarded by diplomatic mail to Russia to the Ministry of Internal Affairs or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A passport that is not deposited within the specified period without good reason will be considered invalid. It may be seized at the border.

You can return your passport after the travel restrictions are lifted.

According to the law, travel abroad may be prohibited due to criminal prosecution, access to state secrets, or bankruptcy.

In accordance with the amendments adopted in June to the law “On the procedure for leaving the Russian Federation and entering the Russian Federation”, the ban on leaving now also applies to citizensconscripted a>for compulsory military or alternative civilian service. It is valid from the day the summons is sent to work or study and from the moment it is placed in the Unified Military Registry. The transfer of the passport is given five days from the moment the decision on conscription is made by the relevant commission. You can get the document back after completing your service.

Misschien doet de NAVO dat al? Er gaat immers om de haverklap een onderdeel van het Russische "militair industrieel complex" de lucht in of in brand.

Met het opsporen en bestrijden van sanctie-omzeilers en (pro-)Russische spionnen in de westerse wereld valt volgens mij overigens ook nog wel een fikse slag te slaan. De laatste weken lees je geregeld dat daar mensen voor opgespoord, opgepakt en veroordeeld worden.
