Staff Sgt. Roey Weiser, 21, a Golani soldier from Efrat, born to American immigrants, was killed while serving near Gaza during the Hamas onslaught on October 7.
“At 6:30 AM on Shabbat morning when the attack took place,” said his parents, “Hamas terrorists broke through the Erez Crossing with many men and blew into their base. Roey was a sergeant in a platoon that had stayed over the weekend, and he tried to outflank the terrorists inside the base.”
Weiser’s maneuver succeeded, and he helped kill all of the terrorists. In doing so, he saved the base from being taken over. Tragically, he was shot and killed during the encounter with the terrorists. Because of his quick thinking, his parents said, many soldiers survived the attack. “They told us that they were alive because of him. His base was one of the few bases not captured by Hamas that day. He died a hero while saving his friends.”
