Altijd leerzaam die Quora antwoorden:

https://www.quora.com/Why(...)e-all-world-refugees

Q:Why do Palestinian refugees need a special UN agency (UNRWA) and not been taken care of by the UNHCR like all world refugees?

A: Because Arab refugees from Israel have special rules, which don’t apply to any other refugees in the world.

For example: The UNHCR definition of “refugee” is “someone who is unable or unwilling to return to their country of origin owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion”.

The UNRWA defintion of a Palestinian refugee is any Arab who had been in Palestine for two years and then left.

That’s why “Palestinian refugees” include bona fide Iraqis, Yemenis, Egyptians, Jordanians, Syrians, Lebanese, and other Arabs who came to Palestine in 1946 for economic reasons, and then left in 1948 befoe any fighting began.

When the UN adopted Resolution 181 on 29 November 1947, partitioning Palestine into a Jewish State and an Arab State, there were about 600,000 Arabs living in what was soon to become Israel. In 1949, when the fighting was over, 150,000 still remained. Now the Arab exodus began on 30 November: the Arabs who left then were in no way refugees - they were emigres who left of their own volition.

But never mind, let’s ignore that. Let’s imagone that every single Arab who left was a refugee.

That still makes 450,000 Arab refugees, right?

No, wrong. In 1950, UNRWA officially recognised 1,100,000 Arab refugees. (The appellation “Palestinian” hadn’t yet been invented.)

In fact, any Arab could claim refugee status: there was no apparatus for checking who came from Israel, who came from Iraq, from Syria, and so on.

Indeed the single most famous “Palestinian refugee” in histor was Yasser Arafat, who was Egyptian, born in Cairo to an ancient Egyptian family, and who served as a junior officer in the Egyptan Army in their war of aggression and attempted genocide against Israel in 1948 (which instead became Israel’s War of Independence).

No other refugee group in history has ever had anything even remotely similar.

There are currently about 60 million refugees in the world: 6 million “Palestinians”, cared for by UNRWA, and 54 million others, cared for by the UNHCR.

It is remarkable, then, that UNRWA actually has a greater budget than UNHCR.

When you hear the words “refugee camp”, you probably think of miserable tents, or at best tin shacks, in muddy fields, and half-starved people pleading for scraps of food.

Palestinian refugee camps look like upscale suburbs, with luxurious villas with their own private swimming-pools.

Those refugee camps cost a lot of money to build and upkeep, you know. And providing the weapons and ammunition doesn’t come cheap, either.

Hence the massive budget.

Murder’: Uncle of Israeli snatched in Jenin says teen was still alive when taken
Initial reports indicated that Tiran Fero, 18, was already dead when snatched by Palestinian gunmen from West Bank hospital, but uncle says ‘they disconnected him from machines’

Addressing the car crash his nephew was involved in, Edri said Tiran “had traveled to Jenin to fix his car with a friend,” adding that “he must have lost control of the vehicle on the way there.”

Fero’s uncle, however, said his nephew was still alive and connected to a ventilator when he was taken. “They disconnected him from the machines and tossed him into a car,” he told the Kan public radio Wednesday morning.

twitter

Fero was not a soldier, but a 12th grader at a school in the Druze town.

The body is being held in the Jenin Refugee Camp, Haaretz reported, citing several Palestinian sources.

A senior Palestinian official told Haaretz that the suspects snatched the body, thinking Fero was an undercover Israeli soldier.

An unnamed security official told Haaretz that the suspects were demanding the release of Palestinians imprisoned by Israel or the bodies of the bodies of deceased Palestinian terrorists being held by Israel in exchange for Fero.

Druze warn they will enter Jenin if kidnapped teen not returned
Uncle of the Israeli Druze teenager claims that Palestinian terrorists disconnected his nephew from life support while he was still alive.
==========================
According to reports, the Palestinian Authority Security Forces entered the Jenin refugee camp and managed to transfer Ferro’s body to a Red Crescent ambulance. But the ambulance was blocked from leaving the camp by a large crowd that included several gunmen who fired in the air before grabbing the body and heading back toward the camp.
==========================
the uncle also spoke with Gantz and Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories head Maj.-Gen. Ghassan Alian. He told the two officials that the family doesn’t want to risk the lives of soldiers to retrieve the body.

“We’re willing to wait a few more days, I don’t want another mother in Israel to cry,” he said.
==========================
Hundreds of demonstrators protested in front of the council building in Daliat al-Carmel on Wednesday, calling for the return of Ferro’s body. Some of the demonstrators warned that if the body is not returned, “all of us Druze will enter Jenin.”

Daliat al-Carmel Council head Rafik Halabi asked Druze citizens not to go to the Jenin checkpoint or into Jenin itself.

Israel's Interior Minister Rejects Asylum Request of a Woman Facing Female Genital Mutilation
Against her ministry's recommendation, Ayelet Shaked said that a distinction needs to be made among its various forms and that asylum cannot be given to any woman subject to a practice that is so widespread in the developing world

quote:
Israel's outgoing Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked has refused to grant asylum to a refugee who is likely to face female genital mutilation, despite the fact that the request was unanimously supported by her ministry's consultative committee on refugee policy.

Shaked’s detailed decision acknowledges that the Israeli Supreme Court has ruled that female genital mutilation can be grounds for the granting of refugee status in some instances. However, she stated that the Geneva Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees is not designed to address all of the difficulties and hardships suffered by hundreds of millions of people in developing countries. A threshold of some kind is required as sufficient grounds for persecution to provide a basis for refugee status, Shaked stated.

The minister made it clear that she condemns all forms of female genital mutilation but said that it was not reasonable for Israel to recognize all forms of a cultural practice with an impact on hundreds of millions of people as grounds for refugee status in Israel.

As a matter of principle, female genital mutilation is not one specific practice, she wrote. There are a number of different forms of the practice, and they need to be distinguished from one another, she said.

In practice, Shaked stated, some of them are similar or milder than ceremonial male circumcision. Only a portion of them have the potential to inflict sufficient serious harm that could be considered persecution.

Shaked’s decision states that there is a worrying trend in the Western world that seeks to blur any distinctions among various female genital mutilation practices and that also draws a parallel between female and male circumcision to ban Jews from practicing male ritual circumcision.

Israel signed the Geneva convention on refugees, but it was never ratified by the Knesset. In addition, the Israeli law on entry into the country explicitly states that those who enter Israel illegally should be expelled as quickly as possible. It is therefore argued that the interior minister should construe Israel’s obligations narrowly.

The Hotline for Refugees and Migrants condemned Shaked’s decision and said it was “shameful” that she would consider the decision the basis for what the organization claimed was “a final round of public relations before she leaves the ministry.”

In the specific case before the committee, Shaked stated that the committee was mistaken because it based its decision primarily on the high proportion of females in the West African country of Sierra Leone who are circumcised, mostly as children.

The practice has wide support in the country, Shaked claimed, and there is greater support for it among women than men, including women who have undergone it. In any event, she said, it would be unlikely that a woman seeking asylum in Israel from Sierra Leone would be forced to undergo it in her home country.

Border Police officer stabbed, wounded in West Bank; Palestinian attacker shot dead
After stabbing, suspect tussles with officer and tries to grab his gun before being shot at close range, the 9th Palestinian to be killed in West Bank violence in last four days

A Palestinian man stabbed and wounded a Border Police officer in the northern West Bank town of Hawara on Friday, before being shot dead by Israeli forces, police and medics said.

Border Police said in a statement that a team of officers was operating in the flashpoint Palestinian town when the suspect pulled a knife and managed to stab one of the officers, lightly injuring him.

Other officers then “neutralized” the attacker, the statement said.

Footage posted to social media showed a Border Police officer trying to apprehend the suspect as two other Palestinians were trying to pull him free.

An officer managed to pull the alleged stabber away from them in a headlock, but the suspect then briefly freed himself from his grasp and appeared to try and grab the officer’s automatic weapon.

The officer then allowed the weapon to fall to the ground as he pulled a handgun from a holster and fired four times point-blank, killing the suspect. He then retrieved his automatic weapon and appears to call for backup before the video clip ends.

Border Police said that the officer with stab wounds was subsequently evacuated for medical treatment, as was the officer who subdued the attacker. Both were lightly wounded.

Hawara is a frequent flashpoint with a highway running through the town being a main route for settlers traveling in the northern West Bank.

A later police statement said that the incident started when the Palestinian tried to enter a vehicle with an Israeli couple in. While trying to break through the locked door, one of the occupants — an off-duty IDF officer — shot and apparently wounded the man with his handgun.

The attacker then ran at a nearby Border Police officer and stabbed him.

The dead attacker was not immediately identified, but he was the ninth Palestinian killed in West Bank violence in less than four days.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-64150409

quote:
Mr Ben-Gvir's visit was his first public act since the government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was sworn in five days ago.

The hilltop site is the most sacred place in Judaism and the third holiest in Islam. It is known to Jews as the Temple Mount, site of two Biblical temples, and to Muslims as Haram al-Sharif, the site of Muhammad's ascent to Heaven. The entire compound is considered to be al-Aqsa Mosque by Muslims.

Jews and other non-Muslims are allowed to go to the compound but not pray, though Palestinians see visits by Jews as attempts to change the delicate status quo.
...

quote:
Muslim prayer continued to be the only form of worship allowed there, although a bar on Jewish visits was lifted. Palestinians argue that in recent years, steps have been taken that undermine the status quo, with Orthodox Jewish visitors often seen praying quietly without being stopped by Israeli police.

The number of visits by Jews has swelled in the past few years, something Palestinians claim is part of a surreptitious attempt to take over the site.

quote:
A settler in Kiryat Araba, one of the most right-wing settlements in the illegally occupied West Bank, which is not recognised under international law, Ben-Gvir has been convicted of incitement to racism, destroying property, possessing a “terror” organisation’s propaganda material and supporting a “terror” organisation – Meir Kahane’s outlawed Kach group, which he joined when he was 16.

Ben-Gvir was also notorious for displaying on his wall a picture of Baruch Goldstein, the American Israeli who massacred 29 Palestinian worshippers at the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron in 1994.

Hoe Mossad entrapment werkt:

https://www.jpost.com/middle-east/article-726608
Fmr. Hezbollah member spied for Israel after Mossad blackmail - report
The alleged Israeli spy reportedly attempted to reenter Hezbollah after being blackmailed by the Mossad, but failed to do so before he was arrested.

A former member of Hezbollah was arrested in September in Lebanon on suspicion of spying for the Mossad, and was blackmailed into doing so on threat of the release of videos showing him engaged in sexual relations, the Lebanese Al-Akhbar newspaper reported on Wednesday.

According to the report, in June 2021, the former Hezbollah member, identified as Mohsen S., met a woman who said she was Belgian at a cafe in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone. The next day, they met at her house and had sex. A few days later, the woman disappeared and would not answer his calls.

A week after the woman disappeared, Mohsen received a video clip on his phone showing him in intimate situations with the woman. Mohsen responded by sending question marks and received no answer except for a message reading "Rejoice, sweetheart." A short time afterward, he received a call from the number, with a man telling him that he was "a friend who wanted help" and that he was from the Mossad.

After hearing the word Mossad, Mohsen hung up and blocked the number, but the man contacted him from another number, warning him that he would send the video clip to his friends and family, according to Al-Akhbar. Mohsen called his friends and family to check whether they had been sent the video and confirmed that they had not.

A few days later, Mohsen received a phone call from the same person and offered to call him over Skype to verify his identity. Mohsen told investigators that in the Skype call, he saw a man in his 50s sitting at a desk with an Israeli flag behind him, along with two other people, including one in an IDF uniform. The former Hezbollah member told the alleged Mossad agent that he would do whatever he wanted if the video wasn't published.

In a further conversation, the alleged Mossad agent began to ask Mohsen about his work in Hezbollah and the training he underwent. Mohsen had joined Hezbollah in 2010 and fought in Syria before being kicked out of the movement for bad behavior. The Mossad agent then asked Mohsen to return to Lebanon and to try and become part of Hezbollah again.

Mohsen was then brought to Liberia where four Israeli officers interrogated him about Hezbollah, the military skills he was trained in, the weapons he had used, the locations where he was trained and individuals who had fought alongside him. Mohsen told the officers that he had worked in the engineering units of Hezbollah and had been trained to plant and dismantle explosive devices.

The officers instructed Mohsen to return to Hezbollah and to provide them with the locations and photos of the movement's weapons and ammunition depots. The officers trained him to use a VPN to mask his communications.

After returning to Lebanon, Mohsen failed to reenter Hezbollah, despite repeated attempts. In September, the Internal Security Forces arrested Mohsen in Naqoura, according to Al-Akhbar.

A: I will answer in the most honest but blunt way possible.

Some of you will like my answer but some won’t.

The fact is:

The Palestinian Lost the war and Wars have consequences.

After World War II, millions of German Citizens were removed from German lands that were lost to expand Russia and Poland. The land of Prussia ceased to exist, their old Prussian capital Knigsberg renamed by Russia to Kaliningrad.

Furthermore millions of ethnic German speaking people who were citizens of various Eastern European countries and had ancestors living in those lands for two thousand years were expelled. It did not matter that they were NEVER citizens of Germany and had nothing to do with Germany’s wars of aggression, they were ethnically cleansed from across Eastern Europe. Guilt by ethnic association.

Millions of Hindus and Muslims lost their homes with the creation of Pakistan and India.

Hundreds of thousands of Jews who were citizens of Arab countries and who were NEVER associated with Israel were expelled after the creation of Israel. Guilt by religious associations.

Poland and Russia will never return land to Germany. That’s just the reality. I know ethnic Prussian who point out how they are forgetting by history.

The US will never allow a creation of an independent Native American country from their American lands. The US will never return the Southwest to Mexico either. That’s just the reality.

The Arabs who conquered and colonized the Maghreb, will not pack up and leave North Africa and return the land to the Berber. That’s just reality.

Pontus Greek whose ancestors had spend their lives as a community for two thousand years by the Black Sea and have NEVER been citizens of Greece were expelled to Greece or massacres by the Ottomans starting in 1913. Guilty by linguistics association.

Furthermore the Turks will never return Constantinople to the Greeks. That’s just the reality.

Neither the Iraq, Syria, Turkey or Iran will NEVER give up their sovereign land for an independent Kurdish homeland, no matter how many thousands of years the Kurds may have lived on that land. That’s just the reality.

During the Yugoslav Civil War of the 1990s, many communities who had lived in various villages for hundreds if not a thousand years were displaced simply for their ethnicity or faith. Borders created, population changed. Now several of those newly independent Yugoslav nations are now happy NATO members but thousands of Serbian families have never regained their lost properties.

Wars have consequences.

When Jordan ruled East Jerusalem, they did not create an independent Palestine. They took legal responsibility of the Arab population by making them citizens.

“East Jerusalem” as a concept is a double edge sword for the Palestinians. The Palestinian claim “East Jerusalem” for their future capital (historically those that lose a war do not get what they want).

The UN Partition Plan of 1947 NEVER envisioned “East Jerusalem” as a “Palestinian capital” nor a divided city.

The unified city of Jerusalem was meant to be administered “Internationally”.

The Jews accepted this plan. The Palestinians and the rest of the Arab League had a chance for peace in 1948 but they rejected this compromise and chose war. They lost. Badly.

“East Jerusalem” was simply the portion of the city that Jordan could only captured and annexed.

Palestinians and their supporters by accepting the concept of a “East Jerusalem” (a concept only created through Jordanian rule) they are thus legitimizing Jordan’s two decade rule of the West Bank and consequently all its legal aspects, this includes accepting that Jordanian Citizenship was valid and Jordan their sovereign nation. If not, then the concept of “East Jerusalem” isn’t valid.

Let us be honest here. Jordan intended to annex the whole of Palestine and ethnically cleansed the land of Jews. They largely failed in their conquest. The people of the West Bank who were under Jordanian control were given Jordanian Citizenship except the Jews.

For nearly two decades, West Bank Palestinian were born as Jordanian citizens. All young Palestinian today from the West Bank have parents or grandparents who carried Jordanian citizenship.

When Jordan granted the Palestinian citizenship, Jordan proclaimed to the international community that they took and claimed full legal international responsibility of that population. Under international law all Palestinians in the West Bank had a right not to be made stateless by Jordan regardless if Jordan lost the West Bank.

Jordan can not simply void the citizenship they granted to the Palestinian in the West Bank since there has never been an independent Palestine.

The Palestinian/Jordanians expelled the Jewish families who had lived in the city for hundreds of years, destroyed all Jewish synagogues in the city and desecrated and destroyed the Jewish cemetery. There was no outcry from the Arab world. That was the reality.

Wars have consequences.

Jerusalem was won by Israel in the Six Day War of 1967, it’s their capital now. How they managed it is their sovereign right.

Syria did not recognize the existence of Israel as a sovereign nation and did not recognize an actual “national border” with Israel. Portions of the Golan Heights even fell under the 1949 Armistice Demilitarized Zone, zones that Syria prior to 67, insisted were under no national sovereignty.

Cease fire line are not national borders, without a national border that two nations mutually recognized, this open up disputes over territories. Syria had originally hoped to claimed more territory than just the Golan Heights and have complete access to the Sea of Galilee.

Because Syria did not recognize Israel or an Israeli national sovereign border, the Golan Height and surrounding areas were disputed territory.

Syria could’ve made peace with Israel, clearly defined each other’s sovereign national border. But Syria did not and has not, it repeatedly chose war and repeatedly lost.

For those Palestinian and Arabs that demonize Israel as a “colonial-settler state”, (Jews are in fact indigenous to the Levant) they seem to have no issue with the Republic of Turkey or the “Arab Nations” of the Maghreb.

It’s been 74 years and counting since the Arab-Israeli War of 48 and many are only now starting to understand and realize that the war is over.

This is the reason why Arabs nations are finally making peace with Israel. They are finally realizing that they have gained nothing for fighting for Palestine. Sacrificing their sons for someone else’s war make no sense.

Countries that have made peace have gained from not wasting precious financial resources on a someone else’s no-win war.

Peace can not be achieved if one side does not accept it has lost. The American understood this and accepted their loss in Vietnam. The Soviets understood this and accepted their loss in Afghanistan.

Wars have consequences.

Time for the Palestinian to accept the reality that they lost and that the longer the Palestinian insist on prolonging this conflict over disputed lands, the smaller their Palestinian State will become until it is only Gaza. The war is lost, time to make peace and build a nation.

New culture minister: Films ‘offensive’ to Israel will not receive funds
Miki Zohar says creators free to produce any content they wish, but if they want financial backing, they’ll need to pledge their work is not what he deems to be anti-Israeli

organizations that want to boycott Israel often point to locally produced works critical of the government and its policies toward Palestinians as proof that their claims of Israeli abuse are justified.

“In the end, the public will decide whether they come to see a film or not, but we will not compromise on the financing issue. We will not fund offensive content against IDF soldiers and the State of Israel.”

Even hoor, maar vul voor "US Army" eens iets willekeurig anders in... en het resultaat is hetzelfde. :P

Tsja, ik vind het jammer. :{

De vrijheid van meningsuiting moet een basisrecht zijn. En ik snap dat het financiren van, en toestaan van twee verschillende dingen zijn, maar het was toch iets waar Isral in voorop liep. Ik hoop dus niet dat het daadwerkelijk verbieden van Isralkritische werken, de volgende stap zal zijn. :{

https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/article-728812
Sneak peak of IDF's Givati brigade's enhanced AFVs, drones
The Jerusalem Post joined an IDF drill in the sand dunes near the Gaza border.

He had recently been training in the North, where Hezbollah has largely given up on tunnel warfare after the IDF destroyed most or all of its attack tunnels and re-digging them is extremely difficult.

In contrast, Hamas is still hard at work to use tunnels against the IDF and his soldiers and special tunnel units he works with, must be ready for any new curveball Hamas throws at them.

Still, one IDF view is that Hamas may generally avoid tunnels as they just missed losing hundreds of fighters to an IDF trap during the May 2021 Gaza War, and they may not want to test their luck again.

a surface to surface missile was used to destroy a whole group of around five terrorists who had pinned down part of the IDF unit.

There were also reports and video footage indicating that the IDF had tried to sneak into Jenin under the cover of using a refrigerator supply truck, but that some of the Palestinians found the truck suspicious and opened fire on it, blowing the cover.

Jeetje. Terreur in Israel.
