Edoardo Affini is a new addition to Team Jumbo-Visma for next year. The twenty-four-year-old Italian signs for three seasons with the Dutch World Tour team.
Affini is in his second year as a professional cyclist with Mitchelton-Scott and will transfer to Team Jumbo-Visma in 2021. The Italian won the bronze medal at the European time trial championship in Alkmaar last year. Affini is the third new rider for Team Jumbo-Visma, after Gijs Leemreize and David Dekker were previously contracted.
Sportive director Merijn Zeeman sees an important role for Affini in the selection. "We always like to add a rider like Affini to our team. Edoardo will assist Wout van Aert in the classics and he will get a place in the sprint train of Dylan Groenewegen. In addition, he is a talented time trialist. The team will certainly help him to get even better in that discipline. We think that with our guidance he can develop into a world class time trial rider."
Affini is happy with his transfer. "When Team Jumbo-Visma called, I knew this was a great opportunity. This is a good step for me. The conversations with the team showed that they have a lot of confidence in me. I can develop well here and that is very important to me. There are a number of very experienced riders from whom I can learn a lot. I'm in my second year as a pro, but this season is of course very special. Hopefully from next season on I will experience great moments in the shirt of Team Jumbo-Visma."

Mwah, Tuttobici wist twee weken geleden al te melden dat Affini in gesprek was met Jumbo en Sunweb. Dat is hetzelfde als nu een lijstje maken met mogelijke versterkingen voor Sunweb en dan Bardet noemen, dat kan iedereen.quote:

Affini zal dan de renner zijn voor de sprinttrein die ze sowieso al vastgelegd hadden? Dan had hij helemaal niet in dat lijstje van WF mogen staan!
Affini is wel een sterke transfer hoor, die wordt nog wel eens wereldkampioen tijdrijden (als Evenepoel besluit om nog meer gewicht te verliezen)

Misschien omdat Jumbo ook nog nooit een Tour gedomineerd heeft. Als ze de komende 5 jaar de Tour platleggen praten we verder.quote:

Ben benieuwd of Oomen ook naar Jumbo gaat. Hun line-up is wel erg sterk al. De contracten die aflopen zijn voornamelijk van de knechten, ben benieuwd wie daarvan gaan blijven.
Als je daarvoor types Kwiat/Castroviejo gaat halen dan ga je wel richting INEOS-proporties ja

Sky domineerde voornamelijk in de Tour. Jumbo heeft naast een bijzonder goede kern voor grote rondes de snelste sprinter ter wereld plus omkadering en een serieuze klassieke kern. Nu zijn ze ook nog de rommel aan het opruimen.quote:

Jumbo doet het ook wel grotendeels zonder grote aankopen en door het ontwikkelen van renners die er al langer zaten. Met Dumoulin als uitzondering natuurlijk, maar dat gebeurde bij Sky veel meer. Plus dat ze inderdaad nog nooit een Tour gedomineerd hebben, denk dat afgelopen Vuelta eigenlijk de 1e keer was dat ze als ploeg echt sterk genoeg waren om de koers te dragen.
Maar uiteraard zal er ook kritiek komen als we straks een groep van 8 hebben bergop met 3x Ineos en 3x Jumbo..
