After landing it appeared that some non-structural parts of the tail fin were missing and had departed the aircraft in-flight.

PK-8303 [..] had aborted the approach to Karachi due to problems with extension of the nose landing gear and performed a go around.
quote:At this stage, everything is pure speculation. Here are my five cents:
Facts:
- go around
- damage/scraping on underside of engines
- RAT deployed implies engine failure
Theory:
1. crew for some reason forgot to deploy the landing gear (maybe task saturation due to another failure or issue during approach)
2. go around on first approach initiated at very low height after realising that the gear was up
3. slight runway contact of the engines during engine spool up (it will take a few seconds from go around decision until the aircraft actually climbs, you can loose up to probably 100ft in height during these seconds)
4. engines generated enough thrust to climb out after just briefly scraping along the runway
5. damage caused to the engines was an oil leak at the underside, causing the engine oil to run out
6. engines ran dry without oil in climb out and finally failed
- low flying hours in the past months -> crew not as routined as on a normal day. Maybe the pilots haven't flown in weeks.?
- crew irritated by some other issue, tunnel vision and inattention blindness which can cause total ignorance of all warnings - has happened in the past and is bound to happen again
Whatever it was, I hope it will be investigated thoroughly.
May those who lost theit lives in this tragic accident rest in peace.
quote:The Airbus has several alerts:
- There is a visual indication on the landing gear panel (a red light illuminates)
- An aural master warning alert (which is impossible to miss)
- A red warning on the ECAM
- "TOO LOW GEAR" aural alert on the EGPWS
All in all there's no way a flight crew is going to unknowingly perform a belly-up landing, except, of course, with massive electrical damage causing failure of several components (both FWC and LGCIU at least).
RAM air turbine.

ATC recordings...
Sir you are 5 miles from touchdown and still passing 3500'...
Beetje helaas speculaas inderdaad.

quote:A man is alone at the gate waiting area. A beautiful woman walks in and sits down a few seats away from him.
He decides because she's wearing a uniform, she's probably an off-duty stewardess.
So he decides to have a go at picking her up by identifying the airline she flies for, thereby impressing her greatly.
He leans across to her and says the British Airways motto :
'To Fly. To Serve'.
The woman looks at him blankly. He sits back and thinks up another line.
He leans forward again and delivers the Air France motto:
'Winning the hearts of the world'.
Again she just stares at him with a slightly puzzled look on her face.
Undeterred, he tries again, this time saying the Malaysian Airlines motto:
'Going beyond expectations'.
The woman looks at him sternly and says:
'What the fuck do you want?'
'Ah!' he says
"Ryanair".
