De test zou later dit jaar in Nederland moeten plaatsvinden, meldt The Information. De site vermeldt niet of het gaat om een besloten bètatest of een open bètatest. The Information baseert zich op anonieme bronnen die op de hoogte zijn van de plannen. Het artikel spreekt consequent van een 'test' in Nederland en niet van het uitbrengen van de dienst. Dat gebeurt in Nederland vermoedelijk eind dit jaar, tegelijk met andere landen.
Disney+ wordt een streamingdienst waarop het bedrijf al zijn videocontent gaat aanbieden. Daaronder zijn uiteraard eigen films en series rond tekenfilmfiguren als Mickey Mouse en Donald Duck, maar ook films als Frozen en The Lion King. Daarnaast behoren franchises als Tron en Star Wars tot het assortiment van het bedrijf.
Het Amerikaanse bedrijf gaat in april tijdens de bespreking van de kwartaalcijfers meer laten zien van de streamingdienst. Disney zou nog twijfelen over een mogelijkheid om in zee te gaan met aanbieders als Amazon en Apple, om zo klanten het abonnement te laten afsluiten via een van die bedrijven.

Daarnaast gaat het platform meerdere originele films en tv-shows bevatten en verschijnen nieuwe films binnen een jaar na hun première online, beloofde hij, waarbij hij Captain Marvel als voorbeeld gaf. Volgens geruchten komt Disney+ eind dit jaar in de VS online en volgens meerdere bronnen zou er een test in Nederland aan vooraf gaan, om te garanderen dat de release in de VS vlekkeloos verloopt.

Als consument wordt het je heel gemakkelijk gemaakt om te switchen van dienst, omdat alles per maand opzegbaar is. Gewoon even die twee minuutjes pakken om je account te inactiveren bij de ene dienst en te heractiveren bij de andere.

Net als bij concurrent Netflix bladeren gebruikers van links naar rechts door de verschillende titels. De dienst biedt eveneens gepersonaliseerde suggesties voor gebruikers op basis van wat ze eerder hebben gezien.
Door een titel te selecteren, komen gebruikers op een nieuwe pagina. Hier kunnen ze lezen waar een film of serie over gaat, hem toevoegen aan de kijklijst en extra beelden kijken, zoals trailers. De app biedt HDR en 4K voor de films en series die dat ondersteunen. Gebruikers kunnen video's downloaden en offline bekijken zonder tijdslimiet, zolang ze een abonnement hebben.
De app staat gebruikers toe om meerdere profielen aan te maken. Een profiel voor kinderen toont alleen films en series die voor kinderen zijn bedoeld.
Oude en nieuwe content
Disney maakte bekend dat klassieke tekenfilms zoals Bambi, The Jungle Book en Aladdin op Disney+ te zien zijn. Ook zijn er bij het uitkomen van de dienst achttien Pixar-films te bekijken.
Verder zijn onder meer series zoals Lizzie McGuire en klassieke Mickey Mouse-cartoons op het platform te zien. Daarnaast produceert Disney nieuwe films en series die exclusief op Disney+ te zien zijn. Star Wars-serie The Mandalorian is bij aanvang direct op de dienst aanwezig. Ook worden er series gemaakt die zijn gebaseerd op superhelden uit de Marvel-films.
Het complete aanbod is nog niet bekend. Disney deed ook niet uit de doeken hoeveel titels er precies op Disney+ komen te staan.
Disney+ komt waarschijnlijk in het najaar in West-Europa uit, tijdens het eerste kwartaal van het komende boekjaar. Een specifieke datum is nog niet bekend. Ook is nog onduidelijk wat de abonnementsdienst in Europa per maand gaat kosten.
In de Verenigde Staten zal Disney+ vanaf 12 november beschikbaar zijn voor een bedrag van 6,99 dollar per maand. Of de dienst daarvoor nog naar Nederland komt, zoals eerder de ronde ging, is niet bevestigd.

Met de release snelheid van Disney films in de bioscoop (9 grote blockbusters dit jaar) die binnen een maand of 9 op deze streaming dienst staan betekent dit ongeveer 1 grote titel per maand op de dienst. Vul dit aan met Original movies en Original series (waarbij je hoge kwaliteit kan verwachten) en een gigantische back catalog die perfect is voor gezinnen betekent dat dit een insta hit wordt.
Ik denk dat ze ook tactisch releases. Als je maar vaak genoeg een Star Wars show en een Marvel show toevoegt blijven mensen lid. Het publiek dat potentieel geïnteresseerd is in een serie over Falcon en The Winter Soldier is vele malen groter dan het publiek dat wacht op Netflix-series.

Ik denk dat dit een zeer groot succes gaat worden. Voor huishoudens met kinderen vrijwel een must, en ook voor huishoudens zonder kinderen aantrekkelijk.
Voor de meeste huishoudens is een abo op 1 of 2 van deze diensten ook gewoon voldoende, eventueel kun je om de paar maanden switchen van dienst als je uitgekeken bent op het (huidige) aanbod.
Slechts 1 speler is nog veel erger, dan is er weinig reden om te investeren in de dienst en hoef je alleen te zorgen voor een dienst en aanbod die 'ok genoeg' is. Originele en uitgebreide content is dan ook niet belangrijk. Netflix e.d. investeren veel in originele content en een uitgebreid aanbod, juist omdat er concurrentie is en er meer concurrenten op de loer liggen. Als er een speler is, dan zou die sowieso verre van 'alles' aanbieden, er is dan absoluut geen noodzaak om veel geld uit te trekken om de rechten te bemachtigen. Netflix (of welke speler dan ook) in een isolement zou veel beperkter (en mogelijk zelfs nog duurder) zijn, dan Netflix met concurrentie.quote:

Netflix mag schrik beginnen krijgen. Disney+ wordt in de markt gezet aan 6,99 dollar.
Uit de presentatie blijkt ook dat de verschillende Disney onderdelen zoals de filmstudio en animatiestudio content zullen produceren maar dat de afdeling streaming enkel de licentie voor de streaming koopt en zoals verwacht de licenties voor merchandise en attracties aan de andere Disney onderdelen worden verkocht.
Gevolg is dat Disney heel goedkoop zijn streamingservice in de markt kan zetten omdat de filmstudio ook geld krijgt voor zijn werk uit bioscoop, merchandise en attracties en dergelijke. Netflix heeft deze luxe niet en moet zijn kosten zien terug te verdienen met enkel en alleen hun streamingplatform.
Met reeds miljarden schulden op de balans en steeds maar stijgende kosten, een onmogelijkheid om de komende jaren zonder veel schade de prijs te verhogen en het verschil met Disney en Amazon nog groter te maken, extra investeringen in nog meer content, ... zie ik het Netflix over enkele jaren bijzonder moeilijk krijgen. De zakken van Amazon, Disney en Apple zijn bijzonder diep en kunnen alle drie terugvallen op andere inkomstenbronnen van de gemaakte content.

Niks in die hele presentatie over lokalisatie/ondertiteling. Een veeg teken.
Bijvoorbeeld 'van alle films zijn de nagesynchroniseerde versies beschikbaar', 'de kijker kan elke taal ondertiteling kiezen', 'in tegenstelling tot Netflix en Amazon werken we met professionele ondertitelaars in plaats van onderbetaalde sjabloon-invullers'.
Vind van sommige Disney-films de Nederlandse versie echt leuker.
Ook zijn er veel nagesynchroniseerde series die nooit op home entertainment zijn uitgebracht en niet meer op tv komen.
Ondertiteling van bioscoopfilms die door Disney worden gedistribueerd zijn echt dramatisch slecht. Net als Netflix en al helemaal Amazon Prime. Als ze dezelfde prutsers inhuren voor Disney+...

Vroeger werd dit excuus gebruikt omdat films en series niet tot nauwelijks digitaal beschikbaar zijn. Nu is het beschikbaar, tegen een zachte prijs en enorme flexibiliteit (je kunt elke maand opzeggen) en dan nog wil je illegaal downloaden. Als er een leuke serie is en die wil je kijken, dan kun je toch gewoon voor een maandje een abo nemen en het kijken en daarna weer opzeggen? En dan neem je over een (half) jaar weer een keer een maandje een abo? Als je dat bij elke dienst doet, dan heb je gedurende het jaar gewoon tot alles toegang en ben je maar iets van een tientje per maand kwijt. Is dat al te veel gevraagd? In dat geval is er gewoon geen legale bedrijfsmodel te maken die in jouw behoeften kan voorzien.

Persoonlijk ben ik meer geïnteresseerd in de Fox content maar buiten The Simpsons werd er weinig belicht. NatGeo is een van de grotere waar 4K HDR zeker een troef is.
Maar ik denk dat er pas eind 2020 voldoende Originals voor mij zullen zijn om eens een maandje te kijken.
Voor mensen die de Disney animaties en Marvelfilms bekijken is het zeker een goede deal, maar ik moet eens zien of de catalogus van 3000 films het voor mij waard is.
