Barney, Mardle, Hankey, Adams vindt ie helemaal top.

quote:Darts, drugs and desperation: The resurgence of a Welsh sporting icon who lost everything
He once sat on top of the darting world but lost it all
Where do you go once you've reached the top? All good things must come to an end, and all that. Apparently.
But sometimes it's not that downfall that's the unknown, but the manner in which it will unfolds. Ask former darts world champion Richie Burnett.
The Welshman became a household name in the mid-90s as his rapid rise from pub player to world No.1 saw him crowned as the best player on the planet when he defeated the great Raymond van Barneveld in the 1995 BDO world final.
And he was putting his country on the map too.
Glory at Lakeside saw him become only the second Welshman to land the world title after Leighton Rees, with only Mark Webster achieving the same fate since Burnett's stunning triumph.
The bank balance wasn't too shabby either, turbo-boosted by the collection of £34,000 in prize money for his world title.
"They were great times, everywhere I went I was recognised," said Burnett.
"I had a massive boost winning the World Championship, that set me off and it went on from there.
"At the time I was the best player in the world so nobody bothered me. I never even thought about who I played.
"It was a really quick rise. I just grew in confidence year after year. Darts is mostly in your head. Once you can throw, it's just practising and then using your brain to assess situations when they turn up."
Burnett had first stepped onto the oche as a 15-year-old in his native Rhondda Valley. At the age of 28, he won the World Championships at the first time of asking. He'd reach further finals in the years to come.
The lad from Cwmparc was doing something extraordinary. But what next? Where else was there to go?
"I was No.1 for about three years and then I realised that being the No.1 doesn't get you any more money than being No.21," he added.
"There was only the World Championship, and that was the only televised tournament at the time so I eased off and ended up in the wilderness.
"I had a break for about five or six years in the early noughties.
"I had personal problems and a breakdown with a relationship so it forced me to go back to work and leave the darts until I got back on my feet."
And having enjoyed the riches of the game during his journey to the top, Burnett soon found himself in the desperate situation of struggling to make ends meet during his hiatus from the game.
"I had to sign on the dole and that was pretty daunting," said Burnett.
"At the time there was no work around at all, it was tough.
"I wish I'd kept my foot on the pedal to be honest, but you can't look back and have regrets. If I had regrets I'd be beating myself up every day."
After finding work as a roofer, father-of-three Burnett was able to keep things ticking over. Or survive, to put it more bluntly.
By hook or by crook, the man nicknamed The Prince of Wales dragged himself through the hard times and even returned to the oche.
And for a brief spell at least, Burnett proved that form really is temporary, while class is permanent.
A run to the semi-finals of the World Grand Prix in 2011 was followed by a maiden PDC Pro Tour title.
He then paired up with Webster to take Wales to the semi-finals of the World Cup and was a regular on the world stage again, as he was in the halcyon days of the 1990s.
But just as things were looking promising once more, Burnett's life changed forever.
His withdrawal from the 2015 World Championship just hours before the showpiece event got underway made serious headlines. In October that year, it was confirmed that Burnett had tested positive for cocaine at a competition one year earlier.
He was hit with an 18-month ban, and despite his hugely encouraging return to the sport, the Welshman was now well and truly in the darting wilderness.
"My world came tumbling down when I got caught taking cocaine, and the aftermath of that was a ban," he said.
"I would have been a top-16 player but for that ban.
"I just had to grin and bear it for those years and I had some help, but at the end of the day it was down to me."
So there it was. Rock bottom.
Having been at the peak of his powers in the mid-90s, Burnett was now as low as he could go having struck every twig and branch on the way down from the top of the darting tree.
There was no coming back from this.
"They were really tough times. I couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel," admitted the 51-year-old.
"It cost me a hell of a lot of money. I would have been alright for life by now.
"But hey, things happen, you live by it, and I've got no excuses. It was my fault. The rules are the rules and I had to abide by it."
Having been banned from playing in the packed darting pantheons of the world, Burnett's only opportunity to chuck three arrows at a board came in his living room.
And the lack of competitive action crippled the Welshman who had little choice but to turn his hand to roofing once again to scrape a living.
So his journey now required a different question to be asked.
Where do you go once you're at the bottom of the pile?
As far as Burnett is concerned, there was only one option.
"I was thinking about getting back into it all the time. Day in day out it never left me," he admitted.
And get back into it the Welshman did.
After serving his drugs ban, Burnett had to put in the hard yards to work his way back up the rankings.
But the rapid evolution of the sport that has seen the likes of darting juggernauts Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson tear up the rule books in recent years means it's going to be a monumental challenge to say the least.
"I've come back and I've got a lot to prove," he added.
"I just want to earn a good living and be happy because for the last few years I've been in a dark place.
"How I got through it I don't know. But one thing I do know about myself is that I'm a survivor, and now it's time for the serious stuff.
"The players are turning up professionally motivated now.
"They don't drink much either. When we used to finish a tournament we used to go straight to the pub back in the day.
"Now they'll go back to a hotel room to sleep all night, it's totally different now.
"Practice wasn't for me in them days, but now you have to do it, that's changed.
"The money has escalated. Barry Hearn has done a fantastic job to bring darts forward. And everyone wants some of that money."
Not only did Burnett have to cope with coming up against a plethora of arrow slingers, but he was also immobilised physically too.
"I was still playing really well when I came back, I just wasn't getting luck with injuries and things like that," admitted the former world No.1.
"I realised I couldn't see, then my knee gave way. I competed through that.
"There was a lump on the back of my knee and I could hardly practice.
"The real problem was my eye. I've been throwing for the last seven or eight years with one eye.
"But since getting that all sorted I feel fine.
"All I can do now is gain confidence. The next couple of months are going to be crucial for my progression. But I'm ready for it.
"Once something sparks in my head I'll move forward. Until I have a good break I'll still struggle until my confidence gets there.
"But I've got no excuses now. I'm fit and ready to go."
Burnett has climbed back into the top 100 of the PDC world rankings since completing his ban.
But what next for the man who had it all and then lost it all?
Only time will tell.
The rise back to the big time has already started for Burnett.
And while a return to the summit of the tungsten tree would represent a comeback of Lazarus proportions for the Welshman, you simply can't rule anything out.
Because he's sampled life at polar opposites of the darting spectrum.
And it's the dark days spent away from the oche that are now fuelling the resurgence of a man desperately trying to salvage something from the game that once gave him absolutely everything.
