ESC United has reached out to the EBU and the Australian broadcaster SBS for confirmation on the event, so stay tuned for more news on that. We also have not seen an announcement from the official Eurovision Asia Twitter account.
This is what we know so far!
Eurovision Asia Song Contest will be held over eight days and will include red carpet arrivals, press meet and greets, multiple rehearsal shows, and conclude with a three-hour live broadcast of the grand final show on that Saturday. The inaugural Eurovision Asia Song Contest will be a close replica of the original Eurovision that we all love dearly.
The contest will feature high-profile artists from 16 Asia Pacific countries, and the eight-day event will highlight Asian song writing and performing talent to the region and the entire world. Eurovision Asia Song Contest will also utilize two different broadcast elements during the event week: a weekday ‘reality TV show’ and the three-hour live broadcast of the grand final performance.
The event will draw on the Eurovision Song Contest’s established rules and codes of the competition, showcasing exceptional production values and visual design. There will also be a similar voting system in place for the contest, featuring a 50% Jury vote and 50% televote point system.
The event is set to take place from November 30th to December 7th. The official report from 9News also indicates that China, India, Indonesia, New Zealand, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates are among the countries currently in negotiations to participate. The full list of participants will likely be announced in May.
Mayor Tom Tate voiced his excitement with the decision, expecting a viewership of 200 Million for the event. This would be a similar viewership to the original Eurovision contest.
The contest will not be an annual event compared to the Eurovision Song Contest. Instead, the event’s long term plan is to hole Eurovision Asia on the Gold Coast on a 4 year rotation for the next 12 years. After that time period, it is unknown what will happen.
