Conor McGregor charged with three counts of assault, one count of criminal mischief for bus attack

Conor McGregor and SBG teammate Cian Cowley were arrested in New York late Thursday night, a spokesman for the New York Police Department confirmed with MMA Fighting.

McGregor has been charged with three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief due to his involvement in a fracas at the Barclays Center following the UFC 223 media day. Cowley, an SBG teammate of McGregor’s and a fellow MMA fighther, was charged with one count of assault and one count of criminal mischief.

“The Notorious” turned himself into police custody on Thursday night. There was a charge pending at the time and he was wanted for questioning after the wild scenes that took place at the Brooklyn venue.

At the end of the UFC media day event, McGregor, Artem Lobov and other members of the Dubliner’s entourage stormed the backstage area after gaining entry to the building. In what is thought to be an act of retaliation for Khabib Nurmagomedov taunting Lobov earlier in the week, the Irishman’s entourage threw objects at a bus full of UFC 223 fighters, including the Russian lightweight title challenger. McGregor was filmed throwing a dolly through a window of the bus.

UFC president, Dana White, announced that Lobov’s scheduled bout with Alex Caceres at UFC 223 was scrapped after the chaotic incident.

Michael Chiesa was also forced from his lightweight bout with Anthony Pettis after suffering facial lacerations during the melee. Chiesa thought he would be able to compete but the final call was made by the New York State Athletic Commission late Thursday to remove him from the card.

Ray Borg’s flyweight meeting with Brandon Moreno was also cancelled following the incident. Borg was on the bus that McGregor’s party assailed, and was reportedly complaining about being unable to close his eyes due to shards of glass after the incident.

McGregor was expected to be stripped of his UFC lightweight title as soon as Nurmagomedov’s main event bout with Max Holloway was underway on Saturday night.

McGregor will face his charges in court Friday.

Dat weight cutting ook, dat moet echt eens ophouden. Kunnen ze niet een dealtje maken om een wc hoger te gaan voor een fight.
