Het woord Hatay komt van Hettieten. Heeft er mee te maken dat de Turken een tijd lang hebben volgehouden dat de Hettieten eigenlijk een Turks volk waren en dat de huidige Arabische inwoners af zouden stammen van de Hettieten en daarom Turks zouden zijn.quote:
