http://www.usnews.com/new(...)raine-steals-115-000quote:An unidentified gunman shot and killed three postal workers Friday as they were transporting money in eastern Ukraine, escaping with the equivalent of $115,000, police said.
Police said a manhunt was on for the gunman who attacked the workers in the government-held city of Kharkiv, stealing nearly 2.5 million hryvnas.
The police statement did not say why the workers were transporting the money, but postal workers regularly deliver pension payments.
Both the government of Ukraine and its people have been under severe economic stress recently. Ukraine's economy is shrinking, with the IMF projecting a 9 percent contraction this year, and inflation topping 46 percent.
Kharkiv is a little more than 150 miles (250 kilometers) from the front line where Russian-backed separatists and Ukrainian government troops have been fighting since April 2014 in a conflict that has left 6,500 dead.
http://news.yahoo.com/ukr(...)ities-181025031.htmlquote:Merkel, Hollande urge Ukraine leader to give rebels self-rule
German Chancellor Angel Merkel and French President Francois Hollande took the rare step Friday of pressing Ukraine's Western-backed leader to ensure partial self-rule for the pro-Russian separatist east.
The blunt message from two of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's most important allies marked another sign of European impatience with fighting that still engulfs the ex-Soviet nation five months after the signing of a broad truce.
The 13-point agreement reached in the Belarussian capital Minsk controversially guarantees three years of autonomy to militia-run districts of Ukraine's industrial provinces of Lugansk and Donetsk.
The mostly Russian-speaking regions -- dotted with war-shattered steel mills and coal mines that once fuelled Ukraine's economy -- want their special status spelled out in constitutional amendments that would be enormously difficult to overturn.
But Poroshenko's draft changes so far only make passing reference to an existing piece of legislation that gives insurgency leaders temporary self-administration rights.
The rebels fear the law could be easily watered-down or even revoked -- a decision that would cheer Ukraine's nationalist forces and outrage Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The European Union's dire state of relations with Russia have been of particular concern to Merkel as she tries to return calm to the continent's jittery markets and bring more stability to the 28-nation bloc's eastern front.
Poroshenko said Merkel and Hollande -- both present at the Minsk agreement's signing in February -- had "recommended that the president of Ukraine continue with (his) constitutional reforms".
The two "especially stressed that the draft constitution of Ukraine reflects special self-rule for certain districts of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions".
Hollande's office confirmed that the French leader and Merkel placed "particular emphasis on the special status of certain areas in the regions of Donetsk and Lugansk in the draft constitution".
The German statement carried a similar message. None of the sides mentioned who had initiated the conference call.

A Ukrainian far right group demanded the resignation of the interior minister and said it would block roads around Kiev on Sunday in a standoff over a fatal gun battle that challenges the authority of the government.
Kiev has called on Right Sector, which played a prominent role in protests that toppled Moscow-backed President Viktor Yanukovich a year ago, to lay down their weapons after a shootout on Saturday in the town of Mukacheve killed at least two people.
The cause of the violence is not clear. The sides have different versions of events but Right Sector's response underlines the problems Kiev has keeping order while trying to carry out reforms and crush a rebellion in its east.
Close to bankruptcy and fearful of renewed conflict with pro-Russian separatists in the east, Kiev has been criticized for being slow to reform the country's legal system, which is still described as favoring the rich and powerful.
Right Sector presented its battle in Mukacheve as one to root out corruption, saying they had been lured to a sports club in Mukacheve on Saturday by a local politician they had accused of smuggling. It said their members were set upon by local police, who killed two of their members.
Dozens of supporters of Right Sector, which is in turn hailed or blamed for injecting violence into last year's Maidan protests, also protested in Kiev and other major cities to demand Interior Minister Arsen Avakov be sacked.
In Kiev, the Interior Ministry said Right Sector opened fire first, killing one civilian, and Avakov said on his Facebook page three police officers and four civilians had been wounded in grenade attacks.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that any attempts to pressure Ukraine over its political structure and amendments to its Constitution on decentralization and the status of certain areas in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts will be fruitless.
quote:The first deputy of the pro-Kiev Donetsk regional department of justice head has resigned and switched to the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR). This is not the first time Ukrainian officials come over Donetsk opposition forces lately.
“I’ve decided to quit Ukraine’s justice bodies as I do not support actions of the government stirring up the war hysteria. I have a peaceful profession, and it bars both war propaganda and participation in warfare,” former Ukrainian official Sergei Kucheruk, said today at a press conference in Donetsk.
The official, whose relatives live in Donetsk, said he was waiting for “the government to adequately start to deal with the ongoing conflict,” but he never saw this happen.
“People keep dying, it’s awful, it’s unacceptable,” he added.
Sergei Kucheruk also confirmed he is ready to work for DPR.
Earlier this year, there was a wave of Ukraine officials who had jumped ship.
Major-general of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and ex-adviser of the minister of defense Alexander Kolomiyets joined the Donetsk People’s Republic on June 22.
Earlier the former head of Ukraine’s Lugansk customs, Oleh Chernousov, switched sides to join the Lugansk People’s Republic.
Brothers Alexei and Yuri Miroshnichenko, the first serving with the Ukrainian foreign intelligence service (SZRU) and the latter at the Ukrainian embassy in France, also moved to Lugansk in June, owing their transition to them being “unable to tolerate the strangle of traitors, foreign security service agents, fascists and nationalists in the government,” according to Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

It is a very nice, I like.
Zelfs Burundi ziet er nog beter uit.
